Ch.18 Separated

~Y/n pov~

"Yum!" Luffy exclaimed as he shoved takoyaki into his mouth.

"See? Hatchin's takoyaki is the best in the world, right?" Camie smiled.

I watched as Luffy shoved all of it in his mouth before touching the pan that was still cooking.

He quickly recoiled, grabbing his burn hand, "Ouch."

Sanji shoved one in his mouth and stared in thought, "It really is good. What is this stuff?"

I cringed as I watched half the crew stuff their faces with it.

"Do you want some, Nami?" Hachi asked after a moment of hesitation.

We all froze and were silent while waiting for her response.

Nami silently ate one.

"So, how does it taste?"

After a moment of silence, Nami finally spoke.

"This doesn't mean I'm going to forgive you for anything."

Hachi waved his arms around rapidly, "No, of course not. I just wanted to know how it tasted. I really just wondered how you like the taste..."

Nami smiled, "They're really tasty."

"I see." Hachi stared crying happily.

I ate some as well, obviously, but not as much as the others.

"Everyone! Wait up! You can't leave without saying goodbye." A voice called.

"Who's that?" Luffy asked with his mouth full.

"I'm handsome- oh, my mistake. I'm Duval."

I stood next to the railing and watched as they came into view.

"I altered his bone structure. Now he can't complain to me again." Sanji told us casually.

"Wow, Mr Black foot. When I woke up after you kicked the crap out of me, we were very surprised! You made me this handsome! I'm enchanted!" Duval gushed.

Why do we always meet the weirdos?

After a while of talking, Duval finally left.

~*~

Camie pulled out a map, "We're on the right track. Our destination is the Sabaody Archipelago."

Usopp peered over her shoulder, "Do we have to go there to get to Fishman island?"

"We fishmen and mermaids cane get there easily by diving, bur you're humans, so I'd you dove, the pressure will kill you." Hachi explained as he poured himself another cup of tea.

"Yeah, we barely held out in the submarine." Franky agreed.

"So we have to pass through Sabaody Archipelago?" I asked.

Camie nodded, "There are two routes that can take you to the new world."

The weird starfish then started talking, "But for outlaws like you guys, only one is possible. One of them, at the request of the government, involves crossing the city built on top of the Red Line, the holy land, Marie Jois. Naturally, there's no way they'd grant permission for pirates to cross."

"We have to walk over? Then, what do we do with our ship?" Chopper asked.

"You'd have to abandon your ship and buy a similar one on the other side."

This made Franky spit his tea out, "Abandon the ship?!"

"Yeah, it costs money and it takes time but it's the safest way, so that's what most do." The starfish explained, "For the route you'll take, you can keep your ship. It's called... The sea floor route via Fishman island."

That name is wayy too long.

~*~

"All right, look ahead! We're here!" The starfish announced.

I gazed ahead of us in awe.

There were loads of bubble floating around making the place look mystical.

"They're floating from the sky to the ground." Usopp stared in awe.

"They're emitted from the island." Camie stated.

"May I ask a question?" Robin interrupted, "Is the Log Pose all right?"

Nami glanced down at her wrist, "It's pointing towards Fishman island at the minute... Hey, this island won't overwrite the Log Pose, will it?"

"No need to worry about that." Hachi assured her, "Sabaody Archipelago is just a bunch of trees. It has no magnetic force."

"This isn't an island?" Sanji asked as he walked by holding a tray of drinks.

"Have you heard of the trees called mangroves?" Hachi asked.

We were told we had to get our ship coated so we could travel underwater.

Apparently, there was a hole in the wall of the Red Line.

"I want you to keep one promise for me." Hachi mentioned.

"What?" I asked.

"Sometimes, there are World Nobles walking around in town. No matter what may happen in town, promise me that you will not defy the World Nobles." Hachi looked really serious, as if he was remembering something bad that happened, "Even if someone is killed before your eyes, you must pretend you saw nothing."

~*~

"Where are you going?" Usopp called after Zoro.

He paused and turned back to look at us, "A walk."

Sanji glared at him, "Don't you dare, you damn bastard! You always get lost!"

"Y/n. You go with him." Usopp pushed me towards Zoro.

We're probably going to get lost anyway.

I have no idea where I'm going.

"Don't trust yourself." Sanji yelled after us.

Zoro grumbled in annoyance before turning around and grabbing my hand as he walked off.

~*~

"Okay! I'm making you my wife." The celestial dragon announced.

"Then I shall arrange to send her to the Holy land as your thirteenth wife." A man dressed in a black suit asked.

"Oh, and I'm tired of wife one and wife five so I'm sending them back to the commoners." He stated casually.

"Wait I'm..." the woman tried to protest.

"Stop! That's my fiancée!" A man ran towards them.

There was a gunshot.

The man collapsed the the ground.

"No!" The girl screamed as she stared at her fallen fiancé, "How could you do this?!"

Zoro walked up to them drinking from his bottle.

I don't think he was listening or paying attention at all.

I stopped and watched as Zoro continued to walk.

He stopped when he came face to face with the celestial dragon.

Everyone was silent.

"What?" Zoro raised an eyebrow, "Do you need directions or something?"

The man shot Zoro but he easily avoided its

A pink haired girl went charging at Zoro and shoved him out of the way.

"Brother. Why did you have to die, Brother?!" She cried.

She continued to fake cry.

The celestial dragon finally left.

"Thanks." I told the pink haired girl.

The celestial dragon may have actually tried to kill him.

"Why did you get in my way?" Zoro asked in an annoyed tone.

The girl huffed, "What the hell were you thinking? If you're a pirate, you must know some of the unwritten pirates rules."

"Sorry. He's an idiot." I apologised.

"Hey!" Zoro yelled in response.

He sighed and stood up.

Zoro picked up the unconscious man, "Let's go."

~*~

We walked into the hospital, the man still slung over Zoro's shoulder.

"Are there any doctors here?" Zoro asked as he looked around.

"What's wrong with him?" A doctor came up to us to check the injured man out, "This is bad! Let's see... no collar."

"Why'd you check for a collar?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Treatment for slaves is more expensive so it's better to get a new one." The doctor answered as if it was normal.

"This guy is hurt, that's all!" Zoro glared at him, "Are you going to treat him?"

The doctor jumped back with a scared expression, "Yes, yes! Right away!"

A nurse came up to us and grabbed the man, placing him on a bed.

I watched as they wheeled the bed away to go and treat him.

"This place is strange." I muttered as we left the hospital.

Zoro scoffed, "Tell me about."

We walked for a few more moments before I spoke.

"Are we actually going to try and go back to the ship or shall we just continued to get lost?"

Zoro gave me an unamused look in response.

~*~

Somehow we met up with Luffy.

He told us about Camie being kidnapped for an auction.

So that's what the doctor was talking about earlier... how horrible.

We stole one of those flying fish and crashed into the wall of the building.

Talk about a dramatic entrance.

I sighed as I brushed rubble off myself.

Luffy seems to cause trouble everywhere he goes and everyone else gets dragged into it.

"You idiot! You can land better than that!" Luffy yelled angrily at the fish.

"Is this really the time?" I asked him.

He looked at me blankly before he remembered, "Oh yeah."

He turned around to face the audience.

A lot of them were staring in surprise and others seemed to not care about the commotion we had caused.

"Camie!" Luffy yelled and ran towards her when he saw her in the tank in the middle of the room.

Hachi grabbed Luffy by the back of the shirt to stop him from running towards her, "What are you doing? She's wearing an explosive collar we can't take her away. Plus, there are celestial dragons involved now."

"So what?!" Luffy ignored him and continued to run even when Hachi was trying his hardest to hold him back.

"His arms! Disgusting!" a woman screamed once she saw how many arms Hachi had.

"Seize him!" The man in charge of the auction yelled.

A sudden gunshot was heard.

We all turned and saw blood splatter as Hachi fell down the stairs.

Blood was dripping from his body.

Camie banged on the mouth and seemed to be yelling but we couldn't hear her.

The noble who shot him simply laughed.

Luffy glared angrily and started walking up the stairs towards him.

Hachi leaned up weakly and grabbed Luffy's arm to stop him.

"Wait... don't be mad.. I'm the one.. who screwed up." Hachi's voice was strained as he spoke, "You promised me not to defy the celestial dragons even if you saw someone get shot. I was a pirate at one time. This is what I deserve.. for doing those horrible things. I'm sorry... I didn't mean for it to be like this! I just wanted to make amends with Nami... even if it wasn't much.."

He heaved and coughed weakly.

"I'm sorry!" Hachi cried as his arm fell weakly down.

I frowned. Even though he was on Arlong's crew.. he wasn't a bad person at all.

Luffy stayed silent and walked up the stairs with an angry look one his face.

The noble shot at Luffy but he dodged both shots.

Luffy let out an annoyed yell and punched him in the face.

The celestial dragon went flying.

The whole room was silent as they stared in shock.

I knew Nami was internally screaming.

She's probably so annoyed.

"Sorry." Luffy apologised, "Punching this guy means a navy admiral is gonna come here with a warship..."

"Hachi! Hang on!" Nami ran up to him to make sure he was okay.

"I think the key to Camie's collar was backstage." Chopper whispered, "I can't go, I need to check his injuries."

"Isn't the collar made out of metal? We don't need a key." I stated.

"What do you mean?" Chopper asked with slight fear and hesitation.

I smirked in response.

"How dare you commoner!" A celestial dragon yelled as they shut at us, "I'll teach you a lesson."

"They made the celestial's angry!" A man yelled in fear as the crowd of civilians stood up and ran as fast as they could.

"Like I care!" Sanji yelled as he kicked the man in the face.

I watched as everyone else jumped into battle.

Casually, I walked down the steps and avoided all the fighting.

"It's okay. We're here now." I smiled reassuringly at Camie and placed my hand on the glass.

She smiled with teary eyes and nodded.

I nodded back before punching the glass.

It shattered making water come flooding out as Camie fell to the ground.

"What about the collar?" Camie asked, "It'll electrocute me."

I smirked, "What about it?"

Crouching down, I placed my hand on her collar and furrowed my brows in concentration.

Ice crept up onto the metal collar until eventually the whole thing was frozen.

My hands ached from the cold but I kept going.

And then, the device shattered.

"That was amazing." Camie looked at me in awe.

"Thanks." I responded, punching a man who came flying over from on of the fights.

He went flying and crashed into the wall before falling unconscious.

~*~

The wall next to me suddenly exploded, startling me.

Two hands reached through the ripped the wall even more.

A smaller figure also walked towards us.

"The place is in an uproar. I'd say the auctions over now. I've stolen some money now so I guess I'll go back to the gambling house." He spoke casually as if he didn't just smashed through a wall.

"How did they get out of their cell!" A man yelled.

I noticed they had no collars.

"Rayleigh!?" Hachi exclaimed.

"Oh is that you Hachi?" The old man asked, "How did you get that injury?"

He turned to look at me next and then glanced at the shattered collar, "Impressive."

There was a knowing look in his eyes as he stared at me a few moments longer.

"I see."

Everyone fell unconscious all of a sudden.

"What the hell?!" Usopp shrieked.

"That straw hat suits dauntless men very well." Rayleigh stated, "I've been wanting to meet you Monkey D. Luffy."

Franky suddenly came running out with the keys.

He froze when he was the chunks of ice on the floor and the missing collar.

"Didn't need the key." I stated.

"Should've told me that earlier!" Franky grumbled in annoyance before noticing the old man, "Who's he?"

"He's called Rayleigh."

The weird starfish rushed down the stairs and latched onto Camie.

"Just who is that old guy?" Usopp asked as he hid behind the chair.

Franky threw the keys at the other slaves, "You should run while you can."

They all scrambled for the keys and started unlocking themselves.

Rayleigh started walking up the steps towards Luffy.

"Sorry about that fellows." He suddenly apologised, "I didn't realise other pirates were watching. You must be quite strong to have withstood that with no problems at all."

I looked in the direction Rayleigh was looking and saw a small band of pirates.

There was another small group of pirates near that one.

"I never expected to meet such a big-shot here.." the man with crazy red hair smirked.

Rayleigh stopped in front of Hachi and bent down, "I take it you'll be okay. After I told you all those times not to walk around the island."

"So, what's this about you want to meet me, pls guy?" Luffy asked bluntly.

"Yes, let's save that for later. We first need to get out of here."

I heard a shout from outside and the sound of several guns being cocked.

The marines must be here.

The captains from each pirate crew stepped outside.

Well, I guess that's been dealt with then.

I came off the stage and walked up the steps to join the rest of the group.

Zoro gave me a small smile and wrapped him arm around my waist, pulling me into his side.

"Let's meet up on grove thirteen, in case we get separated." Rayleigh stated.

"Grove thirteen? Got it." Zoro nodded.

Press x to doubt.

"You don't 'got it' at all." Usopp retorted.

I could hear a loud ruckus outside but that was to be expected.

Luffy is out there after all.

~*~

Rayleigh told us about how he was the vice captain and he used to sail on the same ship as Roger.

"Oh you didn't notice?" Robin asked casually as she looked at everyone's surprised facial expressions.

"It's definitely a name you've heard at least once.." Sanji muttered.

"Gold Roger? I seem to vaguely recall a rookie named that long ago... but I'm not sure..." Brook trailed off as he ate.

"How does a big shot and octopus know each other?" Zoro asked, leaning back in his chair.

"Hachi reached me over twenty years ago, when I was stranded in the sea. Hachi and I remained close after that, until he joined the sun pirates." Rayleigh explained.

"You mean Arlong, right?" Luffy spoke with his mouth full.

"The navy caught the entire crew, didn't it?" Sanji narrowed his eyes at Rayleigh suspiciously.

Rayleigh smirked, "We weren't caught. Roger turned himself in."

"Why?!" Nami exclaimed.

"Because we saw an end to our journey. About four years before the day of his public execution, Roger caught a fatal illness. There was one man who could stop his suffering. His name was Crocus. We asked for his help and brought him on as ship doctor for our final voyage. Then, we conquered the Grand Line."

"Crocus?! That brings back memories." Brook exclaimed in shock.

"So, what happened after he conquered the sea?" Sanji asked as he leant forward to put out his cigarette.

"The world started to call him King of the pirates. He hadn't been King of the pirates the entire time before or anything." Rayleigh poured more alcohol into his glass, "Titles hold no meaning for someone about to die. But Roger was overjoyed. Eventually, we secretly disbanded. One by one, everyone left."

There was a sad smile on Rayleigh's face as he reminisced.

"I'm certain there are people who inherited things from Roger on that day in the town square. Your friend Shanks is one of them." Rayleigh suddenly brought up.

"Eh? You know Shanks, old guy?" Luffy asked with his mouth full.

"Have you also heard of the East blue pirate known as Buggy?" Rayleigh ignored Luffy's question, "The two of them were apprentices on our ship."

"Eh?!" Luffy spat his food out in shock, "Shanks was on the Pirate King's ship?!"

"What? He didn't tell you about that." Rayleigh leaned forward, "I met him again about ten years ago and he'd lost his trademark straw hat, along with his left arm."

Luffy hurriedly swallowed his food.

"When I asked what happened, he cheerfully told me about you." Rayleigh smiled, "And I've wanted to meet you - Monkey D. Luffy - ever since."

Luffy smiled.

They then started to discuss about coating.

Robin stood up abruptly, interrupting the conversation.

"Rayleigh? Can I ask you something?"

He looked at her curiously.

"What exactly is the Will of D?" Robin asked, "Roger's name was engraved in ancient writing on the Poneglyph I saw in Skypiea. Do people know what happened to the world during the blank centaurs that began nine hundred years ago?!"

Rayleigh remained silent for a few moments, "Yeah. We know. We learned the entirety of history. But, Miss. You mustn't be hasty. Continue to move forward one step at a time on your own ship. Even if I told you everything about history here, you still wouldn't be able to do anything as you are now. Once you've taken your time to see the world, it's possible you'll be led to a different answer than we were."

What's that supposed to mean?

"There's one thing I wanna ask!" Usopp exclaimed, "The one piece.. is it really-"

Luffy interrupted him as he slammed his foot down on the table, "Usopp!"

Usopp fell back with a terrified expression.

"I don't wanna know where the treasure is! I don't wanna know if the treasure exists or not! We've our all our lives on the line and set out to sea, even though we don't know anything. I'd rather give up being a pirate than have the old guy tell us stuff now!" Luffy ranted, "I won't go on a boring adventure."

"Sorry! I don't wanna know either." Usopp replied in a panic, "I have the 'I'll die if I learn about the one piece' disease."

"Do you think you can do it? The Grand Line still far surpasses anything you can imagine! Can you rule this mighty sea?"

"I'm not gonna rule anything!" Luffy grinned, "It's the freest person in this sea who's the King of the Pirates!"

"I see... I'll head over to coat your ship." Rayleigh walked towards the door.

~*~

"Hey.." Luffy stopped walking and turned to face us with a grin, "Wanna go to the amusement park?"

"Shut up!" Usopp yelled in response.

"Do you even understand the situation?!" Franky added.

I smiled at the usual bickering.

We froze as someone appeared in front of us.

"Get back!"

Kuma held his hand in front of him and aimed at us.

"Don't let it hit you." I yelled at Luffy.

I grabbed onto the ground as a huge gust of wind hit us.

"Bartholomew Kuma! Why the hell are you back?!" Robin glared at him.

This is bad.

"Wait, ie he the guy you said showed up on Thriller bark afterward?!" Luffy asked.

"Yeah, that's him!" Usopp agreed.

"He had planned to wipe us out there." Chopper explained, "He must've come back when he found out we survived."

"Coup de vent." Franky's attack sent Kuma flying but it seemed to have almost no effect.

"Second gear." Luffy's body turned pink as the blood pumped rapidly through his body.

He charged towards Kuma.

Something seems weird.

Kuma seems different but I can't put my finger on it.

We avoided as he continuously shot beams at us.

Luffy raced towards him while avoiding the beams.

Usopp screamed as he narrowly avoided being hit by one of the beams.

I watched as he ran away with Franky and Brook.

We all charged from different angles, trying to get closer as beams were shot at us.

I sent a flaming punch his way while Sanji, Zoro and Luffy also attacked.

Kuma was pushed back but it seemed like it had no affect on his body.

"He's that different? Maybe he's a twin then." Luffy suggested.

Sanji panted in exhaustion, "Maybe.."

"The real one would've teleported and dodged our attacks." Zoro added.

"Does he seem... not human?" I pondered aloud.

Zoro gave me a strange look.

I shrugged in response.

His movements... they seemed almost robotic.

Kuma stood back up, his eyes glowing red.

We all charged at him and attacked again but it seemed futile.

He didn't seem hurt at all.

Kuma kept wordlessly shooting beams at us.

There was nothing human about him...

Zoro clutched his wounds and fell down after only just dodging another beam.

His injuries from before still haven't healed.

Kuma started aiming a beam at Zoro.

I ran towards him and pulled him out of the way while Chopper went to attack Kuma.

Usopp shot at him, "How's our chance! Run!"

Kuma's body fell to the ground.

"What? Did it work?" Usopp asked, astonished.

"His body's hard, but he still bleeds. He's just like me, a regular living person whose body has been modified with weapons." Franky observed.

"Nami!" Sanji yelled as Kuma started to shoot a beam at her.

Robin made him shoot a beam at himself.

"Thunder lance tempo!" Nami attacked next.

Kuma's body twitched before he continued, shooting beams in all directions.

We all hid and watched as he hit random things.

We all charged at him and attacked again.

Luffy smashed Kuma's body into the ground with his giant fist.

The light in Kuma's eyes disappeared.

Luffy's body turned tiny.

"I need to rest." Luffy groaned.

"We should hide." Sanji told us.

"You've got some nerve." Someone jumped down from the tree.

She was holding a missive axe.

There was another Kuma.

Are they are robots?

We all went flying back as the Kuma shot beams at us.

"Let's get away from here. Let's split into groups." Luffy told us.

Sanji ran after Nami as she desperately ran away.

"Zoro! Do everything you can to protect me!" Usopp pleaded as he followed him.

I followed after Chopper as he ran away.

"Meet on the sunny in three days!" Luffy yelled before he followed after me with Robin.

Our escape was completely blocked.

Is this it?

~*~

I can't even remember what happened clearly.

One minute we were fighting.

And the next, my body was being flung high into the air at a really fast speed.

My stomach flipped and my vision turned black as I lost consciousness.
