Appendix

The purpose of this appendix: To whimsically unpack a the Lore of Pinnikle by lending biographical & geographical information, to build anticipation and connection, and to offer the occasional easter egg. For the sake of my readers (and the audience I hope to have enjoy this work), I have a strong desire to build clear understanding of this world, its places, and the characters therein. Trynity Everglade (Tryn): The Fabled star of Luca village, known to descend over the village each night. Every eve, she glides over the river in the midst of Luca Village, on her way to the great waterfall: End's Drop. From there, she floats in the mist and glittering stardust just atop the exact center of the waterfall. She can be seen lighting up the waters from below, for all who may see. It is debated whether she goes there to enjoy the view, to be admired, or to make the sight of the great waterfall admirable.

Appearance: She looks like a petite person, with white skin like diamonds that are soft as silk. Emits a glow akin to an arora of fantastic rainbow colors. Emits a glow akin to an arora of fantastic rainbow colors.

Traits:  Safe, magical, calm, and very strong. Also, he is mysterious.

Age: Older than the sun of earth.

Jack AKA the Sandman: Introduced in chapter 2 - A very old creature who is made up entirely of sand. He knows many things, and induces sleep and good dreams with the snap of a finger. Only good dreams. He seems to enjoy making people happy, though no one knows why.

Appearance: Has the form of a man who dresses in ornate clothing.

Traits: Jovial, magical, hates fear

Age: Old as Time

Fear: A terrible and malignant creature, in the form of a dark man made of pure shadow. He has been known to take the form of a mighty dragon, when he is at his best. Struggles with jealousy.

The first queen of Pinnikle: First mentioned in the prologue: The queen who named the land. The land, Pinnikle, did not always have kings and queens. No one knows where she is from, only that she named the place Pinnikle, because she felt it was home to the pinnacle of sights - the best view of the star-scape in the galaxy. Her rule ended abruptly, though that does not mean her ruling was unwelcome. Perhaps it was only too good to accept.

Age: A few moments younger than Time.

Beings, their traits, and origins:

Humans: From Earth. They are known for expressing themselves, but have the ability to keep their feelings to themselves. Are easily captivated, and easily hurt, because they tend to withhold feelings.

Nix: From Pinnikle. Nix are much like humans, but cannot withhold feelings. They cannot withhold from expressing themselves. To avoid doing so often, they stay busy with their work. They are inventors, bakers, chefs, gardners, fishers, and so on... Quite like the original humans.

Stars: Luminary beings who enjoy dancing in the sky. They twinkle when they are happy, and do not when they are anything else. These creatures tend to keep to themselves, but do bring much beauty to the night-scape whenever they descend during nights in Pinnikle. They never come close to the surface of mainland earth. One time, a star tried to come close to earth and was caught in a gravitational plummet. Some say that is the star who caused the extinction of the dinosaurs, but others claim it was a flood.'

Sandman: A very old creature, who likes to be called Jack for his own reasons. He likes the name. Little is known about him, other than the fact that he enjoys spreading cheer.

Fear: He wears a wooden box round his neck, wrung by a dangling chain. No one knows how the his thin neck holds the weight of the box, as he made up of pure shadow. The clangoring chain and clattering of his box always implies he is close, as he prefers to announce himself. Perhaps it is to build frightful anticipation. Inside the box are all the things that don't exist, including memories which have never, and will never be made. One might say it is best to avoid the box altogether, as it has been known to devour dreams, and even whole people...

Fear grows when others are terrified or enraged. He hates hopefulness, awe, captiation, and anything that may tear people away from his grasp. So you may gather: he is quite prideful, and controlling.

Locations:

Pinnikle: A recently discovered vast and beautiful land, unlike mainland earth. It is connected to earth in the way that your image is connected to a mirror. The most differentiating factor of Pinnikle is this: stars come down to its surface at night. The night sky is also quite fantastic. There are glittering stars of every color, even your favorites. There are also fantastic and awful creatures there. Some are the likes of things we've heard of, others are not.

Everything in Pinnikle is beautiful and clear, but most nix never explore the sights that are offered. They're too caught up in their work. That is sad, because Pinnikle is home to the best view of the star-scape in all the galaxy. The water there glitters with stardust, which is bright blue and bright pink.

Earth: Where most of us readers are from. There is no need to write about it, as the information can be found in Atlasas. There is no magic here, but there are beings like those in Pinnikle. The difference is: on earth, we merely see the effects of creatures like the sandman, and fear. We never see the beings themselves, though. Perhaps it is because of the gravitational field...

Luca VillageFirst mentioned in the prologue. It is a small village (only called a village because it is small, not because it is primitive), nestled in the woods, and neatly spread along either side of the very wide river: End's Spill. The village has three wooden bridges, and many people there live in hut homes made of sticks, or logs. It is many river-curves away from the largest and most famous waterfall in Pinnikle: End's Drop.

End's Spill: A very wide river, which runs from a seemingly endless lake which was named End's Lake. That is how the river, and falls got their name: they come from the endless lake.

End's LakeAn expansive lake - the mouth of End's Spill. It does have an end, where the greatest and only city in Pinnikle, Lucidia is built. It should have been called a sea, but the water is clean and clear. There are many creatures in its depths, and at night stars dance over the waters, dropping stardust as they do. The glitterings find their way into the river, and make a dazzling array as they sprinkle off the great falls.

End's Drop: The great and terrifyingly long waterfall, which spills between two jutting cliffs, from which the sights below look smaller than ants. It is said that the view from those cliffs on End's Drop is the best view of the star-scape in all the galaxy.

Lucidia: The kingdom city, built from the shore of End's Lake, where there are many ports and docks. The sprawling city climbs the snowy mountains. The royal quarters are not near the top of the great mountains, but just below the snowline.

Plummet Valley: The valley below End's Drop, which stretches as far as sight can see. It was called Plummet Valley, because of the distance from the top of the falls to the bottom: a truly monstrous plummet. End's river continues there, and on either side there are grassy knolls, creeks, rivers, and villages scattered as far as sight can see.

From End's Drop, you can see the curve of Pinnikle, running off Plummet Valley. At night, stars dance and shoot all across the place. The way the night sky appears to stretch over Pinnikle's curve is truly breathtaking.

Lore of Pinnikle:

Entrance into Pinnikle: If you have not been born there, the only way in is by wish. The wish must be made on either an extremely bad day, or a very good one - never a normal one. Even then, you are not guaranteed to wish upon the right star. Luckily, I've got a hunch about just the right one to wish upon.

In Pinnikle, no one quite understands fear. That is good, because nix cannot control their emotions. It would be very bad if a nix were to fear... They may be overtaken very easily. No one from Pinnikle has ever been to mainland earth... And why would they go?

Of months and seasons in Pinnikle:

Seasons:

There are no seasons in Pinnikle. In the mountains, clouds bring snow. In the rest of the land, clouds bring rain. It has never rained in Pinnikle during the night time, and that is why many Nix choose to live in Huts: They will never be rained on while they sleep. It has also been said that rain never falls at night, because the night sky of Pinnikle is far too wondrous to be withheld from any who live in it.

10 months of Pinnikle:

Each month in Pinnikle has 27 days. Each month marks the beginning of something new in Pinnikle. Because there are no seasons, the months and their days are there so that Time may hold his record.

Eeloh

On the first day of Eeloh, Pinnikle came into existence, and was recorded by Time, himself. before this day, there were only stars. Many, many stars filled the skies. Many came and watched as the world was made.

Teshdad

On the first day of Teshdad, the mountains were risen to the far north.

Vuldo

During this month, End's Lake sprung water. The great river, End's Spill, was established, and the majestic waterfall, End's drop began to pour it's first dribble.

Yldo

In the 247th year, on the 27th day of Yldo: the first queen came to Pinnikle. Her name and cause has been lost to history, but some of her insights have never been lost.

Gulda

The rolling hills of plummet valley sprang up.

Feyor

A sun was made for Pinnikle, and trees of all kinds began to spring up all about the place.

Aftyat

Creatures appeared in the waters, and on the land. The waters were filled with fish, and large things; ancient things. The land was filled with the kind of animals you are familiar with.

Niftroh

Other river-ways were formed, from the great mountains of the North. Each of them run through the foothills, and make their way down to Plummet valley.

Radia

In this month, the very first clouds were formed, and rain fell for the very first time.

On the 14th day of this month, Fear was discovered in Pinnikle for the very first time.

Balendra

Balendra is the very month that the nix came to be. It was in the twenty first year: all the trees in the land were young, and the wild animals had become accustomed to the place. During this time, nix sprung up all about the land: A people who are different than any other race. They are inventive and fragile (they cannot withhold their feelings). They did not know fear, nor jealousy, or any other things which lead to negative living as we know it. They only knew joyful things.

It is said that many nix awoke one day as children in Pinnikle. They felt as if they had always lived there, and had no memory of ever living anywhere else. They knew to gather food, read, write, build homes, and form peaceful societies among the vast land. The children grew as best friends. As they became older, they did fall in love: each one to their own. The first generation raised their children together, and since then the nix have done everything together. That has never changed. If you ever find yourself in Pinnikle, you will never see a lonely nix.
