My plans for Saturday were sorted from Thursday. I would take a public bus from the nearest bus stop from campus, which was only a two-minute walk. The bus would take me to Michigan Avenue, where I have already searched for a few cafes which have a vacancy and will be willing to give me a job (hopefully!). My work will be done in three hours tops and then I would come back to the campus, get out of the clothes I would be wearing, put on one of the extra-large shirts I had in my wardrobe, slip into my soft comforter and watch a rerun of Friends.

Even though my parents were rich, and I had all the possible comforts I could dream of, they never really spoiled me. Whenever I went out with Mom or Aunt Heather, they used to make it a point to always take the subway. I never really went to school, so I did not need a car then. And here, since the University was well connected I decided not to buy a car, much to the disappointment of Aunt Heather.

My Saturday plans were disturbed when a certain someone with alluring black eyes decided to ask to accompany me today. And they were completely crushed when my muddled drunk brain decided to say yes to him for no reason. I mean I agree that having a car would make the trip faster. But the bus would have been fine too.

After saying yes to Foster I kept on wishing that he will forget to ask for my number, the only possible way left to save my Saturday plans. But my dreams were thwarted when he asked for it just before we entered the house, and my drunk ass decided to hand it to him willingly.

Which is why right now, I am sitting on my bed cross-legged, wearing a light blue spaghetti dress, staring at my phone, as if daring it to pop-up with a message or flash with an incoming call. It has not done the deed in the last fifteen minutes. And if this continues for half an hour more, I will be free to go, because it was already 10:10 A.M. and I planned on reaching Michigan Ave by 11:00 A.M. Perfect timing to tell him that I would have been late if I waited for some more time, without coming off as rude.

And just when my brain was completely satisfied with my master plan, the phone flashed with a call from an unknown number and I just barely saved it from hitting the floor, courtesy - my clumsiness.

I picked the call up and heard a little shuffling from the other end.

"Hey, Rachel,"

"Um, hey," I replied back, fumbling with my words a little.

"I will be near the campus in fifteen I think, which way is your dorm?" He asked confused as if he had just remembered to ask for that little detail.

"It's towards the south-end," I replied.

"Alright, see you then,"

"Yeah," I heard a click from the other end and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding till now and began wandering if Foster would be this nice to me if he knew who I really was.

I looked at myself in the mirror and realized that I really have changed in the past four years. And by that I don't just mean the looks, looks have largely been a contributing factor, but my demeanor, my way of living life, my way of handling situations has changed a hundred folds. And that's when I realize that I am a completely different person than I was before.

Shaking my head before any negative thoughts crept into my mind I stuffed my essentials into my small bag and put on my white converse. I wrote a note for Olivia for when she wakes up from her delirious sleep, telling her that I would be back by lunch.

I stepped out of the dorm building to see a Dodge Charger parked across the road with Foster leaning on it, looking at his phone. Of course, the Golden Boy drove a car worth more than the average salary of many young Americans.

"I am here," I said as I reached him and he looked up from his phone.

"Hi," he nodded with a small smile playing on his lips.

"What are you smiling at?" I asked as I felt a small frown settle on my forehead.

"I am just thinking if you will run away from me today as well," he mused, the smile still present, and even after trying a lot to suppress it, I felt a small smile creeping up on my lips as well.

"We will see I guess," I shrugged and opened the door of his atrociously expensive car, trying not to harm it in the process.

He slipped in beside me in the driver's seat and I was glad that he didn't bring up the events of last night again.

"Where do you have to go?" he asked as we both buckled our seatbelts.

"Michigan Ave,"

"Oh, that's perfect then," he said as he pulled on the road.

"What?" I looked at him and saw his flexed biceps in the white t-shirt. White really does suit him.

"I have some work at Michigan Avenue as well, I will be free in an hour or two maybe, then we can go back, okay?"

I nodded my head while processing his words in my head. So, that was the reason he offered a ride to me. He had some work as well. But he didn't even know that I also had to go to Michigan Ave. I bet he would have regretted it if it were not the case.

"You seem to be thinking about something?" He interrupted my trail of thoughts.

I shook my head and looked at him.

"Nothing of importance, what work do you have there?" I tried to make a conversation considering I have to also come back with him.

"There's a store there which someone recommended to me for my camera equipment, I need to stock up on some things," he replied while driving. I think I would have hit a tree by now if I were doing two things at the same time.

"You are a photographer?" It comes out as a question because I am sort of surprised by what he just said.

Not that being a photographer is an extraordinary thing, I just pegged him as more of a Football kind of guy.

"That hard to believe?" he laughs at my reaction and I look outside the window at the same time to see one of the landmarks that were near the cafe I am supposed to go to first.

"Oh, just pull over here,"

"Are you sure?" he asked unsurely.

"Yeah, I am good. I will see you then," I got out of the car and waved at him before he drove away.

And it was not until then that I realized that I had been smiling this entire time.

It had been two hours since Foster dropped me and the entire time had been completely unfruitful.

The first place I walked into was a very small coffee place. The place was very beautiful if you ask me. It had an aesthetic vibe to it. The kind which you saw in movies. Unfortunately for me, the vacant position for the counter attendant had been filled by someone else just the previous day. So the owner very politely shooed me away and got back to her work.

But not the one to lose hope, I went to the second place on my list which was just around the corner. And believe me, I won't work at the place even if they offered to pay me a hundred dollars per day. The place was creepy, shady, and filled with middle-aged drunk men who looked jobless. The second I entered, all the heads turned towards me and I ran out mumbling something about being at the wrong place.

After that, I went to another cafe nearby but was practically pushed out of the place the instant I mentioned the word vacancy. Talk about being weird.

So after all these experiences, I had almost lost the hope to get any positive feedback and entered the fourth place on my list begrudgingly. It was a small cozy diner and the strong whiff of greasy food hit me as soon as I entered. The interior was homely. Small tables were arranged with a lot of space between them. It was relatively empty, considering it was a Saturday afternoon but I could still see a few groups working on something, college assignments maybe.

I reached the counter and saw a tall brunette with the most beautiful caramel skin working the register. She looked up as she felt me approaching.

"Hi, What would you like to have?" she asked with an equally attractive smile.

"Oh, I am not a customer, I heard there is a vacancy here?" I questioned and then the realization hit her.

"Ohh yeah yeah there is, you just wait here and I will get the manager," and with that, she turned on her heel to go inside a door which I assumed to be the kitchen.

Not even twenty seconds later I saw a lady with blonde hair pulled up in a very tight bun and piercing blue eyes emerging from the door. She looked to be in her forties, similar to Aunt Heather, but the vibe she gave off was nothing like her. One look at her and I was tempted to catch the first bus back to the campus but I soon realized that would be totally unnecessary when she spoke.

"Oh my dear you have the most beautiful hair I have ever seen, where do you get them done from?" I was surprised that a lady with such an intimidating glare could have such a sweet voice and my nerves calmed a little.

"Oh Ma'am, they are all-natural," I replied with a smile trying not to come off as a snob.

"God does bless a very few people, so you are here for the job?" she asked.

"Yes Ma'am, I heard about the vacancy - "

"Do you have any experience with all this?" she cut me off and waved her thin fingers in the general direction of the counter.

"Umm no, you see I - "

"Hmmm, that might be a problem now sweetheart - "

"Uh, Evie, can I say something?" this time the lady who's name was Evie, as I caught from the girl with the beautiful skin, got cut off mid-sentence.

"Yes, Audre,"

"I think she is fit for the role, I will work her around the specifics of it and I think she will be able to handle it alone in a week or two, what do you say?" Audre said, and God I had never been more thankful to someone as I was to her in that instant to save my day from getting completely wasted.

"Okay Audre honey, if you say so," she said and then looked at me.

"You will be expected to work for three hours each on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5 to 8 in the evenings. Are you okay with that?"

"Yes Ma'am it will work perfectly,"

"Audre here will get you done with the basics starting Monday. You will be paid $12 an hour. Okay, honey?"

"Yes Ma'am,"

"Ohh, don't call me Ma'am sweetheart, it's Evie for you. See you on Monday!"

"Okay, bye Evie!" and with that, she turned around and walked back to the door she came out off, and I had a huge stupid grin plastered on my face.

"Thank you so much for that Audre, I owe you," I said to her when Evie went away.

"It's no problem really, I wouldn't mind a helping hand here, and honestly it's really needed," she replied with her radiant smile which made me feel like I was really going to like working with her.

"Just try not to be late, she isn't really fond of slackers,"

"Don't worry about that, I will handle it," I replied and exited the diner with a huge smile plastered on my lips.
