XX: When You Play With Fate.

chapter twenty.
( when you play with fate. )

Despite being cleared just over a week ago for active duty, the team stands inside the hangar bay in civvies as M'gann and Conner carry crates out of the Bioship. Batman stands off to the side, his arms crossed over his hero-suit as his masked eyes scan over the boxes. "Did you get everything?" He asks when Conner sets two boxes down in front of him.

"Everything in your list, Batman." M'gann answers cheerfully as she carefully drops the two crates she had been holding up. "Plus groceries," she adds with a grin.

Wally sprints towards the Martian, his lips curling into a bright smile as his eyes rake over the contents of the first crate. "Cookie fixins?" He questions– when M'gann had started asking the team to add to the shopping list for the week, cookie fixins were the first thing added by the speedster.

Essentials were the last things on his mind.

"Snickerdoodle," she says more precisely. Her eyes glow as she telekinetically lifts a bag of snickerdoodle cookie fixins from the groceries and drops them into Wally's waiting hands.

He sighs contentedly, "You rock my world."

Yue stands off to the side, tying both crates of medical supplies together, and lifts her gaze to glance over at her boyfriend. "You rock my world," she repeats with a teasing grin. "Babe, you're starting to sound like your uncle."

"Since when was that a bad thing?" He raises a brow as he looks at her over his shoulder. "The Flash is funny."

"More like, corny." Dick chimes in with a laugh, his hands falling from the crate of supplies as he faces Wally. Even with sunglasses covering his eyes, they don't miss the playful look on his face. "There's a reason The League hates his jokes."

Wally hisses, "Dude!"

The elevator doors hiss open behind them and Artemis, who had been sent to retrieve Zatanna upon her arrival to the cave a few minutes ago, strolls into the hangar with the magician. "Glad you're back, Zatanna," the archer states, her voice quiet under the laughter of Yue and Dick as they tease Wally. "Does this mean you're officially joining the team?"

The two girls halt in front of the large elevator and a frown tugs at Zatanna's lips as her eyes fall onto her father. "I don't know. Zatara's so overprotective," she answers with a sigh. "Just getting him to let me visit takes a full day of meddling. I just wish he'd give me some space."

"Babe, look what else M'gann got." Wally steps away from the food crate with a bag of freeze-dried Chicken Whizees in his hand. Yue's eyes light up as they fall onto the red and yellow bag, one of her hands stretching out to catch the small snack as her boyfriend throws them to her.

"You know what," she glances over at M'gann, "I take it back, you rock my world too, Megs."

Zatara repeats a backwards chat as he points his cane toward the crates of medical supplies, one by one the boxes lift into the air and begin to fly toward the elevator. Then, as Batman and Red Tornado turn towards the magician, they all disappear and the crates crash against the ground with a loud bang that forces the team to turn around.

Zatanna screams for her dad but Yue can't hear it; between her heart battering against her chest and anxious thoughts filling her mind, she can't tear her horrified gaze away from the tiled floor where Batman was standing only seconds prior.

"What-" Her voice cracks as she tries to speak, her hand anxiously tightening on the bag of chips. Her lips curl into a frown and she whips around to face Dick, who stares back at her equally afraid as she asks, "What happened to them?" The train for failure simulation – the batwing's explosion – flashes through her mind.

"I don't–" Dick's brows furrow as he activates his gauntlet's computer. With a swipe of his hand, he brings over a dozen social media posts up onto the holo-screen; kids across the world were reporting the sudden disappearances of people they know. "Whatever's happening, it's worldwide."

Artemis stands at the back of the room, her hand reassuringly placed on Zatanna's shoulder as the two girls stare at the reports in surprise. "What are we supposed to do?" She questions worriedly.

"Our jobs." Kaldur answers determinedly as he turns to face the team. "I will return to Atlantis, my king is supposed to be there and hopefully he is. Robin, Flamebird, try to contact other heroes– just because the League is gone does not mean they all are."

The team made quick work of jumping into action following the disappearance of their mentors and other adults. While the rest of the team scattered across town, aiding kids and taking them to the high school until things are figured out, Yue sits in the lead-lined waterfall room– the same office Black Canary conducted their therapy.

She holds a small phone in her hand, dialling the same number and being met with the same dial-tone for the nth time in the last hour. Alfred wasn't picking up, and if he wasn't picking up it meant Gotham was in the same predicament as Happy Harbour.

"Hey." With furrowed brows, Yue lifts her gaze to meet Artemis as the girl leans against the doorway with her arms crossed. The archer frowns as she continues, "Robin said you'd be in here trying to contact other heroes... Any luck?"

"No," she answers with a sigh. "I can't get through to Agent A or Catwoman." She pauses, averting her gaze. Not that either of them are heroes, but Alfred needed an alias so they wouldn't be tied back to Bruce, and Catwoman was constantly toeing the line these last few years. But they were the only names that came to mind, because without Bruce around, she knows they're next on her emergency list. "Roy won't pick up either. I'm thinking whatever this is, it only affects those above eighteen."

"Which explains why we're still here and they're not." Artemis pushes herself off the wall and strolls into the room, falling into the seat across from Yue with a loud huff.

"Have you called your parents?" Yue questions as she crosses her legs under her.

Her words seem to have Artemis freezing up, her shoulders stiffening as she withdraws within herself and hugs her legs closer to her chest. "No," she replies shortly. "My dad isn't- He's not around anymore, and my mom... I don't think I can see another empty house tonight."

The explanation brings a frown to Yue's face; in the months she's known Artemis, this was the most she's heard about her family life. Artemis had told her once that she and her mother live in Gotham, away from her uncle Green Arrow, because of her dad and though Yue didn't blink at the lie, it was just that– a lie.

Yue knew liars well enough to know Artemis is telling the truth now.

"What– What happened to him?" She wonders aloud.

"Mom served him the divorce papers a few months ago." Artemis leans her head back against the seat as she explains her dad's absence. "If you asked me back then, I probably would've said a day like this would be a dream. No parents, no worries, but now..."

"Now it just feels bad, right?" Yue sighs. She knows the feeling, if someone asked her that just a few days ago, she would've answered the same about Bruce. She was blinded by her anger but now he's gone, and all she can do is think of how she wished she forgave him earlier.

Her eyes flicker to the doorway as silence washes over them both, and her eyes fall onto Wally as he walks down the hall. Her lips curl into a frown, her brows furrowing as she fights the urge to run after him– she knows what it's like to lose a parent and she didn't want him, or the rest of their friends, to experience that.

Artemis follows the girl's gaze. "Zatanna still needs time to learn her dad's spell, she locked herself away in M'gann's room to practise," she explains. "So, if you wanna go check on him, you should."

Yue's eyes soften as she looks back to her friend. "You gonna be alright in here?"

"Mhm," she hums in response with a nod of her head. "I just need to clear my head for a minute before everyone else gets back. I'll be out soon, okay?"

With a nod of her head, Yue rises to her feet and heads for the door, only to halt in her steps and turn around to meet the archer's gaze. "Artemis... I know everything's hard right now, but I'm always here if you need to talk," she says. "Believe it or not, I know a thing or two about shitty dads."

"Thanks, Yue." Artemis smiles– a half smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes, but Yue chooses not to mention it. One day her words will reach the girl, one day Artemis will understand that no matter what secret she's hiding, she isn't going anywhere.

Yue spares her friend one last glance, then heads down the hall to follow after Wally. She stops upon reaching the Souvenir Room, a former office space that had been converted to hold the souvenirs Wally and the team collected from their various missions. He leans against the table behind him, his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes staring up at the Helmet of Fate on the wooden shelf.

"You're not planning to use it, are you?" Her voice snaps him out of his thoughts, and she watches as his gaze tears away from the helmet to meet hers.

"No... I don't know. I just–" Wally falls silent, as though the words are hard for him to say. His eyes flicker back to the golden helmet. "We could use Fate's help."

"No." Yue shakes her head and strolls over to her boyfriend, staring at him with a pleading look in her eyes. "You and I both know it's not worth it, Wal." She could remember the helmet's dark mindscape like she was there yesterday; though it was cold and empty, and much like how she thought death to be, Kent Nelson stayed there all alone with Nabu in order to free her and Wally.

Yue knows death comes with the job – she's known it since she donned the mask at thirteen and no amount of hoping could change the simple fact that heroes always pay the price – but she wouldn't allow another hero, a friend, to spend an eternity watching their lives go by in that hellscape.

Wally sighs. "So, we're not that desperate?"

"Definitely not." She answers. "We're gonna win this fight, no matter who we're up against, and we're gonna win it together." She gently squeezes his hand, her lips curling into a frown as she glances at the helmet.

"Uh, guys." In the doorway of the room, Zatanna clears her throat and interrupts their conversation. She waits for both teens to turn around, then sheepishly smiles. "I'm– I'm ready to try my father's locator spell."

Yue and Wally share a look between each other, then she turns back to Zatanna with a grin. "We should get back to the briefing room, then." She points out as she joins the magician in the hallway. "Is Kaldur back from Atlantis?"

Zatanna nods. "He arrived a few minutes ago. No adults there either," she replies sadly.

Yue glances down at the girl. "We're gonna get your dad, Batman, and all the other Leaguers back." She says with a small smile. "I promise."

"Right–" Zatanna looks behind them, her eyes flickering back to the door of the souvenir room as Wally steps into the hallway. "Of course we will."

A cold draft settles in the mission briefing room as the team gathers around a large holo-globe of the Earth. Zatanna stands at the front of the group, her hands stretched towards the globe as she chants, "Etacol retnecipe fo yrecros!" A red dot appears.

"Coordinates locked. Roanoke Island," Dick announces to the team, then turns to face Zatanna with an uncharacteristically soft smile. "You did it." As he reaches out to gently place his hand on the magician's shoulder, a crack of thunder echoes through the Cave. In a flash of lightning, a boy no older than ten stands in front of the team with a relieved grin.

He pumps his fist into the air, "It works!"

"Who are you and where did you come from?" Kaldur demands as he cautiously takes a step toward him.

The boy's eyes flicker to M'gann, "Quick, read my mind!"

Almost on command, M'gann's eyes low white as she reads the boy's mind. "He's Captain Marvel!" She gasps loudly a moment later.

"Yeah, and I'm Speedy Gonzalez," Wally scoffs in disbelief, resting one hand on his hip while the other – still wrapped in a cast with various small pictures drawn across the white surface by Yue – hangs at his side. "Look, just because he believes he's Cap–"

"Gee, Wally. Do I really have to bring you nachos and pineapple juice to get on your good side?" The boy, Captain Marvel, jokes as he watches the team share a look of disbelief.

"He is Cap," Yue realises, her lips parting in surprise. "But, uh, how can... how is this possible?" Her brows furrow. Captain Marvel – the one they all know – looks to be around Bruce's age, and as she looks the boy up and down, he was definitely much younger than that now. "You're, what, seven?"

Wally pouts, "A seven year old beat us into the League."

"I'm ten," he corrects matter-of-factly.

Yue pales. "Ten," she repeats in a mutter. It wasn't that odd, she supposed. Dick started the crusade at nine and she began at thirteen. She had seen all sorts of things, from killer clowns to gorillas with machine guns. A ten year old fighting crime was the least surprising thing– but a ten year old becoming a grown man in the blink of an eye? Now that was odd. "What the–"

"That's not important!" He shakes his head, cutting her off, then glances at the others. He takes a deep breath and announces, "There are two worlds!" The revelation has confusion washing over the teens, until he sighs and continues. "The adults in one world, and kids in the other. That's why they're missing!"

"And you can travel between the two worlds?" Kaldur guesses with furrowed brows. When the boy eagerly nods his head, Kaldur sucks in a deep breath and turns to face the globe portraying the sorcerer's location in Roanake. "Then, perhaps we can coordinate a simultaneous attack with the League. Strike our enemy while their guard is down."

The flight to Roanake is about half an hour long– ten minutes listening to Billy Batson's explanation of how he transforms from a young boy and into Captain Marvel with a simple uttered word, and another twenty going over the plan they agreed on with the Justice League.

Miss Martian lands the bioship away from the epicentre, while Flamebird, Artemis and Robin take off into the treeline to pose as the distraction.

Stepping out of the shadows, Flamebird reaches for two birderangs and flings them in the direction of a figure she recognised all too well; the cause of this disaster, Klarion. The weapons – four birderangs and two arrows – slice through the air, only to fall to the ground as they make contact with a small shield the witch-boy throws up.

Klarion scoffs, his lips curling into a creepy smirk as he stares at the three Gothamite heroes amusedly. "That's the best you can do?" With a wave of his hand, a bolt of red lightning strikes down from the sky. The impact of the blast sends Flamebird hurtling back into the dirt.

The rest of the team – Kid Flash, Aqualad and Superboy – each come running from the three other roads, each pouncing toward Klarion in unison. The witch-boy once again shields himself and the pentagram beneath his feet with a red dome, forcing the boys flying in separate directions.

"Come on." Zatanna takes Flamebird's hand, pulling the girl back to her feet, before she runs forward and chants a spell. Her magic does nothing.

"Baby magic." With a roll of his eyes, Klarion mumbles in an ancient language – a spell of his own – then waves his hand at Zatanna. The girl is thrown backwards.

"Zatanna!" Flamebird spins on her heel, a sigh of relief falling from her lips as she watches Superboy catch their teammate before she hits the ground. "Are you alright?"

Zatanna holds onto Superboy, her lips curling into a frown as he sets her back on her feet. "I'm fine," she answers.

Klarion glances down at the gem in the centre of the pentagram. "So, you teamed up with the grownups," he murmurs in realisation. "Teamwork is so overrated." He stretches his hand out toward the glowing gem, then channels the lightning out toward the members of the team; Kid Flash sprints to the side, Aqualad syphons the lightning bolts with his water-bearers, while Artemis and Robin are knocked unconscious by the attack.

"Artemis!" Zatanna gasps out, then sprints toward their fallen teammates. "Robin!"

A frown makes its way to Flamebird's face as she follows the young magician. "Quick, we need to get them away from the fight," she instructs, already slipping her hands under Robin's arms to drag him back towards the trees.

As they gently lay their friends back on the ground, a flash of light and the rumbling sound of thunder echoes through the air. Billy Batson – Captain Marvel – appears beside them, his hands cupping around his mouth as he parts his lips to shout.

Miss Martian uncloaks herself, gently covering his mouth with her own hand as her eyes flicker from him to the girls at their side. Flamebird can, for the nth time that night, feel her mind splinter to adjust to the boy's presence. "Don't shout, Billy," Miss Martian tells the boy. "I've linked you telepathically to the team."

"That's so cool." Billy grins, then shakes his head as a serious look crosses his face. "I mean, it's the gem, at the centre of the pentagram. Destroy it and we win."

"That's all I needed to know." Zatanna's plan flashes through the minds of the team, and Flamebird is the first to spin around and face the young magician.

"Zee, no!" Taking a step forward, Flamebird reaches her hand out to stop the girl– she's a second too late, and by the time she reaches her, Zatanna has already slipped the Helmet of Fate over her head. Similarly to both the nights in the Tower and the Bayou, a flash of light illuminates their vision. When it fades, Zatanna is no longer there.

Doctor Fate stands in her place.

His glowing white eyes rake over the battlefield, then land on Klarion in the centre of the pentagram. "Klarion!" They yell, Nabu's voice overpowering Zatanna's, as they float into the air. "This ends now."

Flamebird stares up at Doctor Fate, an uneasy feeling settling in her gut. She couldn't feel Zatanna anymore, she couldn't sense her presence in the mindlink like she could feel the rest of the team worrying. Just like that night in the Bayou, and the night in the Tower, Doctor Fate was all that remained.

Flamebird turns to face Billy, her eyes widening with a frantic look. "You need to go back!" She orders him. "Tell Zatara!"

"Ri- Right, yeah!" Billy nods, unable to tear his gaze away from Doctor Fate as he summons an ankh to block Klarion's attack. Swallowing the lump that forms in the back of his throat, Billy shouts, "Shazam!"

Blasts of red and golden magic illuminate the battlefield as Klarion and Doctor Fate continue attacking each other. Flamebird's eyes then fall onto the witch-boy, her brows pinching together as she watches him; he takes a step back from the gem, almost like it was a struggle to keep up with Doctor Fate's continuous attacks.

A plan clicks in her head.

"We need to help Doctor Fate tear down the forcefield!" She informs the team, then glances at Aqualad as he joins her behind the trees. "When it's down, Klarion will focus on Doctor Fate. There'll be an opening for KF to run in and grab the crystal." Her dark eyes flicker over to the speedster. "Think you can do it, babe?"

Kid Flash side-steps away from the giant form of Klarion's cat familiar. "Think I can?" He repeats her with a grin. "Birdy, I know I can. Besides..." He glances up at Doctor Fate – Zatanna – and though he doesn't say anything else, they know what he's thinking.

What choice do we have?

"KF, go." Aqualad orders, then takes off running toward the forcefield with his water-bearers drawn. One by one, the rest of the heroes follow after him, each attacking the forcefield while Klarion focuses on Doctor Fate.

"Ha! There, see?" Klarion laughs up at the ancient sorcerer, a smirk tugging at his lips as Doctor Fate phases out of reality, almost dropping Zatanna's body from the night sky. "When the worlds divided, the Helmet split too! You're not all there, Nabu, and you're losing hold of that soon-to-be dead girl!" His wicked laugh echoes once more and sends a chill down Flamebird's spine. "She gave herself up for nothing."

Flamebird's hand falters, her fingers tightening around the explosive birderangs she had been throwing at the forcefield. For a second, she allows herself to glance up at Doctor Fate. He would keep Zatanna alive; he would keep her alive because he needs a host, then Mr. Nelson would release her and things would go back to normal.

All of them were making it out of this battle, she tells herself.

"No, Witch Boy! Fate decrees her sacrifice will not be in vain!" With their hands outstretched in front of them, Doctor Fate hits the forcefield with a bright beam of golden light. Klarion's evil laughs fall silent as Doctor Fate traps him within a golden ankh.

Kid Flash runs in, snatches the gem from the centre of the pentagram, and tosses it up to Doctor Fate. From the ground, Flamebird watches as the sorcerer chants an incantation and cracks begin to form in the glowing gem.

A flash of light illuminates the dark Roanake road, and as Flamebird's eyes adjust, four other sorcerers and the missing members of the League – Batman, Red Tornado, Zatara, and Captain Marvel – appear on the other side of the dirt path.

"Boy, they sure don't make evil sorcerers like they used to. Oh well." With a click of his fingers, the ankh trapping Klarion disappears and the witch boy rises to his feet. "That was fun while it lasted. Teekl!" The oversized cat pinning Superboy to the ground lets out a hiss, then as it begins to shrink, jumps back into the witch-boy's arms.

A glowing red portal appears next to him, and with a smirk, he waves to the young heroes. "See you later, Armadillos! Unless I see you first." He cackles, then steps through the closing portal.

Kid Flash spins around on his heel, his eyes narrowing up at Doctor Fate as they lower onto the ground. "Aren't you going to stop him?"

Flamebird's eyes flicker from the forest, as M'gann leads Artemis and Robin out of their hiding spot, to Batman. He stands beside the other League heroes as they tie up the remaining sorcerers, and when he turns to glance at his wards, she knows – even if he doesn't smile, or hug her, or even act like a parent should in this situation – from the subtle fall of his shoulders, he's glad they're safe.

"To what end?" Doctor Fate answers Kid Flash's question. "Klarion is chaos personified, he cannot be contained."

Robin groans, weakly pressing one hand to his forehead as his eyes scan over the heroes surrounding them. "Did we win?"

Aqualad frowns, then glances at Doctor Fate. "At a cost."

"Fate!" Zatara pushes past his comrades, a desperate pleading look in his eyes as he approaches the helmed figure controlling his daughter's body. "Great Nabu, release my daughter."

"No." The simple answer has Zatara releasing a shaky breath, until Doctor Fate continues. "Hear what the Helmet wants in these hours," they order. "The world needs Doctor Fate, and the girl's natural affinity for the mystic arts makes her the perfect candidate."

Flamebird's eyes narrow at them. "You can't do that!" She shouts, pointing an accusatory finger at Doctor Fate as she takes a step forward. Batman's hand falls onto her shoulder, and when she glances up at him, she watches as he slowly shakes his head.

With the Dark Knight's attention on her, Robin shouts, "She has her own life to live!"

"Kent would never allow you–"

"Kent Nelson did object, strenuously." Doctor Fate cuts Kid off. "So, I released his spirit to the afterlife. He is gone." The speedster steps back, his eyes widening– and through the mind-link, Flamebird can feel the sense of hurt that washes over the boy.

Nelson had been the one to save both of them from fate, literally, and sending him to the afterlife meant there was no-one holding Nabu back anymore. If Fate wanted to keep Zatanna, there was no one to stop him.

Zatara blinks away his tears and strolls closer to Doctor Fate. "Take me instead," he pleads. "My skills are already at their peak. My body is physically stronger, better able to withstand the strain of your powers."

"All true." Doctor Fate states. "But if I remove the helmet, what guarantee I have that you will don it?"

"My word." Zatara promises, then chants an incantation to seal their deal. Satisfied, Doctor Fate steps in front of the magician and slowly removes the Helmet. Zatanna blinks a few times, her eyes readjusting to the real world and when they fall onto her father, she throws her arms around him with a relieved gasp.

"Dad!" She grins, sinking into her father's embrace as he pulls her impossibly closer to his chest.

Batman's hand, still on Flamebird's shoulder, tightens softly and the girl finds herself looking away from her friend. Her heart falls to her stomach.

"Zatanna." Zatara pulls away from his daughter, resting his hand softly against her cheek as he takes in her face one final time. "Remember, I love you." With a deep breath, the magician turns around to Batman. "Take care of my girl."

"You have my word." Batman swears.

Zatanna's eyes widen in realisation as her dad takes the Helmet from her hands. "No, please!" She desperately cries out. "This was my fault!" Yue and Dick are the first to step forward and hold the teen back, only for Zatanna to knock their hands away. "Dad, don't! Dad!"

Just like Yue didn't listen to Wally, and Zatanna didn't listen to her, the man slips the Helmet over his head without another word and in a flash, Doctor Fate stands in his place. He turns his back on the girl as though she were just a stranger, his eyes falling onto the sorcerers. "Leave these to Fate." With those words, Doctor Fate and the four sorcerers fly off into the night sky.

Zatanna falls to her knees with a wail, tears streaming down her cheeks, and both Yue and Dick drop to the ground with her. He wraps an arm around the girl, and Yue rests a hand on the girl's back. Artemis and Wally rush to join them, each member of the team trying their best to bring some comfort to the magician's daughter.

Yue meets Wally's gaze over Zatanna's shoulder, the two teens sharing a frown; they know it better than anyone.

There are no winners when you play with fate.

Hours after the mission, after helping Zatanna settle into a spare room in the Cave for the night and ensuring she was as alright as somebody in her situation could be, Yue steps through the golden light of the zeta-tube and into the dark Bat-Cave beneath Wayne Manor.

"Zatanna will be okay." She can hear Bruce's gruff voice reassure her as he follows her through the teleporter and towards the Bat-Computer. "She's a strong girl, she'll get through this."

Yue frowns. It was easy to say Zatanna would be okay, but it was impossible to know if it was the truth. She remembered what it was like to lose her mother, it had been three years and she still wakes up every day thinking she can step out of her room and see her again. She wonders aloud, "Will she?"

Bruce hums in response and nods as he gently places the cowl on the desk. "She will," he repeats, then glances over his shoulder. "She's a lot like these two other kids I know. Just like her, they're stronger than they think."

Her brows pinch together. She turns to face her mentor, her lips curling into a frown as she meets his gaze. He stares back at her like he knows what she wants to say, like he's already forgiven her for all the mistakes she's made in the past few weeks.

"Bruce, I–" She pauses, her hands curling into fists as her dark eyes flick down to the floor. She finally lets go of the anger she had been holding onto for weeks. "I shouldn't have blamed you," she retries after a deep breath. "After the simulation, I mean."

There was no waltzing around the problem anymore, they both know that as they silently stand in the dark bat-cave.

After a beat, she begins again. "Zatara's gone... Zatanna just lost her dad and I know what that's like," she says, her eyes watering up as they narrow at the ground. "And what happened in the simulation, it doesn't compare, but–" She lifts her gaze to meet him. "--I've already lost my parents. I can't lose you, too. Not again."

"Yue, I..." Bruce cuts himself off and as silence begins to fill the cave, he watches Yue turn away from him. When she reaches the bottom of the staircase, he clears his throat and catches her attention once more. "I could never replace your real parents–"

With furrowed brows, Yue glances over her shoulder to meet her mentor's gaze as he continues. "--I would never try to," he adds. "But I do see you as my own daughter, Yue, and I promise you, I'm not going anywhere."

Those were the only words she wanted to hear.

author's note.

The original plan was to have Yue stay mad at Bruce for a little longer, but I felt like this was the perfect time and place for her to forgive him for what happened.

I'm so sorry again for the slow updates! Yue and this fic mean so much to mean, I've been working on it for over two years now so I do want to see it finished. However, the lack of interaction from readers makes me a little sad and I would really appreciate if ghost readers could simply comment here and there.

On another note, what would everyone like to see in act two (season two) for Yue? This could be anything stemming from her career, her friendships and even her relationship. I'd love to know what everyone is thinking!
