6. Trapped
Panic raises inside you once you realise you are alone with a man. With Piers. Of course you were alone with him before, but there also were other soldiers on your way. But now you are alone with him in a tent and no one else is around. Piers is an honorable man, at least you think so. But he was still a man. And you knew what could happen if a man can't control himself.
You begin to hyperventilate and it doesn't go unnoticed.
"Are you okay ? What is wrong ?" Piers asks with concern in his voice. He walks up to your shivering form. His hand reaches out and you flinch back "Don't touch me !"
Confused Piers steps back and searches for something to warm you up. This tent isn't used so it also isn't warmed up. You settle on a nearby matress and pull your knees up so you can rest your arms on top of them.
Meanwhile, Piers found a blanket. He shows it and calmly walks up to you. Piers unfolds it, shakes the dust off and places it around your shoulders.
"Better ?"
"Better." you manage to answer.
Piers goes to sit down on the other side of the matress. You don't react to it.
"Are you nervous that someone could catch us ?" He asks. You shake your head.
"Anyways" Piers tries to start a conversation "where did you learn this. I mean this was incredible. It seemed so easy the way you climbed." Piers finishes with a light blush on his cheeks. You huff a small chuckle.
"I learned it from my brother. He was a talented free climber." You smile at the memories floading your mind.
"You seem to miss him. Where is he ? - I mean if I'm allowed to ask of course...." He mumbles. Somehow Piers isn't that confident right now. He really seems interested. In your story of course. At least you tell yourself this.
(e/c) eyes begin to tear up, but you continue nonethless "He...he was captured along with my father. Along with me. One day they dragged him out of the room. He never came back. Since then I was alone in that dark room. Alone when they 'messed with me'. Ever since I planned my escape. And my revenge." your hands are balling into fists "I started to read the books down there. They were about fighting techniques and how to use guns. It wasn't much but it was everything I had." Piers was just listening. And you are glad for it. "Now that I was alone in the dark, the time just went much longer than it already did. They brought me chicken for meal. I nibbled on that bone for hours I think. Once I assumed it was spiky enough, I picklocked the door. I ran, jumped through a window and the rest you know."
You glance at Piers and he remaines quiet. "I'm sorry if I somehow annoy-" "You didn't." He gives you a smile. You look at him then turn away to yawn. Peeking outside through a small slit on the tents top, you notice it was already sun down.
"Weird to know how late it is." you say with a small chuckle and you sniff.
Piers also chuckles a bit and then speaks "May I ask you something ?" he asks in a gentle voice.
You turn to face him and nod.
"What happened to your father ?"
That is all it took. You cry silently. "It's my fault. If only I had been faster. Just one more second." You feel two strong arms around you and you cry into Piers' shoulder. "I'm useless. He is dead because of me. He just wanted to protect me."
Piers draws away and takes your hands. "You're not useless nor you're weak. You're the strongest I met. You even helped Finn today, even though you don't know him. You're selfless." He encourages you. You stop to cry and look at him with puffy eyes.
"You think so ?"
"I do."
"Thank you." Now you hug him. Piers almost immediatly returns the embrace.
The evening goes on. You talk about your father. About youur fathers skills as a sniper and your brother's agility. You laugh and you feel comfortable with Piers. You don't know when, but somehow you lay in his lap yawning. "Tired much ?" Piers asks you with a smirk.
"No..." You cover another yawn with the back of your hand. To make your situation worse you stomach decides to growl. "Shut up stomach. I'm not hungry." You both laugh. You learn about his family and his sniping skills.
"I still want you to prove them to me. You didn't even manage to show me around." you fake pout.
Piers complains "C'mon this was Finn's fault. And I'm still looking forward to show you my skills" he grins in triumph. "Don't be so cocky about it." you scold him. "Yeah. You're right. I shouldn't show off my skills by talking about it. I should climb on a high building without secures to improve it." You hit Piers' shoulder. "Hey. Otherwise I'd maybe never get a chance." Piers laughs and chuckle with him.
But after another amount of time sleep gets you and you fall asleep in Piers' lap.
He giggles a bit. Careful not to wake you he slips from under you down to the ground. One of his arms around your back and the other under your knees, he lifts you up effortlessly. Piers carries you to your tent. On the way back you mumble something about that someone should stop and let you go. Piers hushs you soothingly and, unaware of your actions, you snuggle into Piers' chest. He reaches your tent with Mary waiting inside. Piers lays you down with upmost care almost like you are made of glass.
"She looks pretty tired. What did you do to her ?!" Mary hisses as she puts a strand of your hair behind your ear.
"I just made my bumpy start up to her. Like I told you." His hazel eyes never leaving your peacefully sleeping form.
"If you say so. But if she wakes up with any aches I swear -" "Mariella, calm down."
Piers turns to leave but walks back to you again and mumbles "Sleep well (y/n). And tomorrow I'll prove my words." He turns to Mary.
"I'll pick her up again tomorrow. See ya." He waves her.
Mariella only sighs "That boy." And continues babying you.
