8. Different But The Same
"I have never seen you Google search something so angrily before."
Kora didn't look up from the computer in front of her as Adelaide made her comment. Instead she continued pressing the keyboard keys gruffly, watching as Google displayed an error message again followed by a suggestion that started with:
'Did you mean...'
'Google acts exactly like a man,' thought Kora. 'It always acts like it knows better than you.'
"Kora, stop for a second..."
Adelaide's words were followed up by her reaching out a hand to put it over the top of hers. Kora let out a sigh as she turned to look at Adelaide beside her.
"What happened between you two?"
"Nothing. He's just...a man."
"Well yes. Anyone with eyes can see that," said Adelaide, causing Kora to laugh weakly.
"It's just...he treats me like some sort of damsel in distress or something. He wants to go back to the site of this murder, but says he can't because he has to protect me. When I said that I could just go with him, he got all weird."
"Weird how?"
"He told me I was being obstinate because I refused to not go with him. He made it feel like it's my fault that he couldn't go back so I was trying to help solve the situation."
"You two argue like you're a married couple or something," commented Adelaide.
For whatever reason, that comment made Kora agitated. She couldn't explain exactly why. She had been wanting to be in a relationship for as long as she could remember and it wasn't that Taehyung wasn't attractive. Kora tuned out her mixed-up feelings to go back to her Google search.
After another minute or so, Kora finally managed to get the search back up that displayed the crime scene, scrolling down through it to look for an address. Needless to say, she couldn't seem to find anything aside from the town name. That would have to work good enough. She grabbed up a napkin someone had left beside the machine, writing the town name down onto it. Adelaide watched her the entire time. There was more she wanted to say, but she could tell Kora didn't want to hear it. For now, she'd have to put all her thoughts on the back burner to be there for her friend.
"Come on, Kora. Let's call it a night. We can figure it all out in the morning," said Adelaide as Kora nodded.
Kora reached a hand forward to shut the monitor off before standing up and following Adelaide back up to their rooms.

"I'm fine on the floor," insisted Taehyung as he stood next to a pillow on the floor, holding a blanket up to his t-shirted chest.
"There are two king sized beds in this room though," instead Eve as she got into the bed she was sharing with Adelaide.
Kora - who was already sitting up against the headboard in the other bed - looked over at Eve.
"If he wants to sleep on the floor, let him. He's stubborn like that. There's no reasoning with him. Trust me."
Eve watched as Taehyung crinkled his face up a bit, mouthing Kora's words in a mocking way before rolling his eyes and sitting down on the floor. He soon moved to lay on his side.
"Goodnight," he said gruffly before falling completely silent.
Eve sighed as she looked at Kora. It was a look that conveyed that she was out of her mind.
"What?" asked Kora as Eve just shook her head.
Adelaide came out of the adjoining bathroom just then to see that Taehyung was lying on the floor on his side with a blanket pulled up over him, obviously trying to force himself to sleep. She looked from him to Eve as she got into bed.
"You ought to be nicer to him," said Eve softly incase Taehyung really had fallen to sleep quickly. "Maybe he's who we came on vacation looking for in your case."
'What is with both of my friends trying to set me up with this infuriating man?' thought Kora.
"I'll stick to my fictional men," said Kora as she grabbed up the book she had been reading on the beach what felt like a lifetime ago.
Eve was about to open her mouth to say something when Adelaide reached her side, placing a hand on her arm to indicate silently that she ought to keep her mouth shut. Eve climbed into bed, looking over at Kora who was pretending to be deeply invested in her book already.
"Why are they both so stubborn?" whispered Eve in a way that just Adelaide could hear her.
"They are both more alike than either of them cares to admit," whispered back Adelaide in a low voice. "Just give it time. I'm sure they will be fine eventually."
"Maybe they just need a little nudge," whispered Eve; her eyes lighting up. "Oh! Maybe we can set them up."
"Do you really think that is a good idea?"
"What? We were supposed to go on this trip not just to meet for the first time, but to find our Mr. Rights."
"Eve, I don't think..."
"Don't worry about the thinking," interrupted Eve, not even listening to what Adelaide was about to say. "I've got ideas."
'That's what I'm scared of,' thought Adelaide as she reached over to turn off their bedside lamp to try to get some sleep.

Kora didn't know how late she stayed up reading. Well, attempting to read was more accurate. She had been stuck on the same page - the same sentence - of Wings of Desire for the last hour or so. She was trying to focus on the climatic point in the book, but instead her mind could only focus on the day she had had and the man who was sleeping on the floor just slightly out of view.
Looking away from her book, she looked at the purse she had put on her bedside dresser. Inside was the pan flute she had bought at the gift shop. It had obviously been a mistake to buy it. It had just caused a huge mess and left her with a man that hated her. Her eyes were diverted away from the purse when she sensed a movement on the floor. Rolling over onto her side so that she could lay on her stomach across the bed, she saw that Taehyung had shifted to lay on his stomach, emitting a small, tired groan as he did so.
"You're not asleep, are you?"
He didn't answer her right off, causing her to sigh. Kora grabbed a pillow up off the empty side of the bed, throwing it down at his back.
"Well I'm not asleep now!" Taehyung huffed in irritation as he rolled his head to the side to fix her with a look.
"Why don't you stop being so stubborn and sleep on the bed? Then you might actually get some rest."
Taehyung just stared at her for a moment before moving to sit up on the floor. As he did, he couldn't hide the small wince as he stretched his back out.
"I'm fine. I just need to stretch."
"You're a horrible liar," Kora said as she grabbed up another unused pillow, chucking it at him so it slapped him in the chest as he finished stretching.
"Stop hitting me with pillows!"
She couldn't help but to chuckle as she moved to lay back on her back on her side of the bed, opening her book again to try to read it once more.
"Do what you want. I don't care," Kora said as she looked at the same sentence she'd been trying to read for the last little while.
She had finally managed to absorb what that sentence said and had moved past the period to the next sentence when she noticed him standing up off the floor out of the corner of her eye. Kora forced herself to focus on the next sentence as he moved to put the pillows she'd thrown at him on the empty side of the bed before getting into the bed, slipping under the covers.
'...She looked at the flowers before her that were so...'
"What are you reading?" asked Taehyung, causing Kora to jump.
She turned her head to the side to see that he was sitting up on his side of the bed, looking over at her with an arched brow. Kora cleared her throat, closing the book enough so that he could look at the cover.
"That doesn't look very educational," he commented, causing her to snort and open it back up.
"It's not supposed to be," she remarked. "It's supposed to be entertainment. An escape from this world."
Not hearing Taehyung make a comment back, she lifted her eyes from the book to see that he was staring absently down at the blanket where his hands rested.
"Have you never read an entertaining book?"
"No. I've only read study books. Books on combat and the like. My whole life was supposed to be leading up to that one thing. I feel lost now."
Kora couldn't understand this man. He could go from making her boiling mad to feeling like she needed to comfort him. Shifting to sit up, she placed a bookmark in the spot she'd been reading before holding the book out towards him.
"Try reading the first chapter. Might get your mind off things."
Taehyung lifted his eyes from his hands to look at the book that was being held out in offering to him like an olive branch. A small smile flickered across his lips for a moment before he took the book. He opened it to the first page, shifting to lay down on his back as he held it above his head. Kora watched him for a moment as she shifted to lay back down herself, watching as his eyes grew narrower the longer he read.
"Don't tell me you already don't like it."
"Okay. I won't."
She smirked lightly, shaking her head. Without thinking, Kora shifted to move closer to him to see what section he was on. He had barely started.
"I don't like him. This Gastonavich," said Taehyung.
"Well he's the lead. You can't hate the lead."
"What do you mean I can't hate him? He's stupid!"
"Why do you say that?"
"Did you not read this first page at all? First of all..."
As the two of them debated the pros and cons of Gastonavich, Adelaide cracked her eyes open to watch the two of them. She couldn't help the small smile that appeared on her face seeing Kora and Taehyung getting along; their heads relatively close together. Eve was passed out behind her - seeming to be able to sleep through anything - so she couldn't witness this development. Maybe they wouldn't need to intervene to help the two of them after all. Maybe it would just take a bit of time for the relationship to develop between them.
