AN: I thought for sure last chapter would be a big one for comments because I dropped a major hint in there... I guess I just need to step up my shock value game...

Dylan closes the diary and notes that Emily knew her stepdad was missing.

She wrote about that but she never wrote about when he was found.

Emily never wrote about that day for a very specific reason. It tore her mom in half. She hated seeing her like that. Emily was unable to write the emotions her mom felt because every time she tried, nothing came out.

Dylan remembers the day vividly. A passerby called the police when they found him unconscious beside a bar.

He overdosed on cocaine he bought from a stranger in a bar he went to that night.

Him and another bar hopper sat beside an alleyway so they could hide the drugs if a cop walked by.

He took to much cocaine that night and was rendered unconscious. The other guy walked away on a high unlike any other.

When emergency personnel arrived, they performed life saving maneuvers.

He was taken to the hospital and admitted as a John Doe. He had no ID on him or anything they could use to find his family. He left his wallet and the phone in his car. He only took cash into the bar so it would be harder to steal his stuff.

He was in a coma for three days. When he finally woke up, he was unable to give names of his family members or even his name.

He did not remember anything.

Three more days went by and still no one was able to identify him.

The hospital called in police officers to run their databases and see if they had picked anyone up with his description.

They found several possible matches but they were all way too young to be this man. He is almost in his fifties and the men they found were in their twenties.

The only reason they ended up being able to identify him is because Emily's mom went looking. She called the police and explained her situation. They told her they would do everything they can but in the meantime, she should check hospitals to see if they had found him.

So that is exactly what Emily's mom did. She sent Emily out to do the same but instead, Emily went to Dylan's house and avoided the whole thing. She didn't care if he was found or not.

Emily's mom finally found him but when she did, she learned that he didn't remember anything. He didn't even remember her.

After calming herself down, Emily's mom called her. She explained everything. Emily could hear the hurt in her mother's expression. Emily had never heard her mom this broken before.

Dylan remembers holding Emily a lot that day while she cried in his arms on his couch. He thought it was because she was happy he was okay and sad that he almost died. But it was really because now she thinks she can now be free from his abuse and she will be able to live.

She somehow hopes that the amnesia will last forever and that will cause him to never remember how much he wanted to hurt her.
