Chapter Twenty Five (Editing)

"No sign of Enoch today either." Vicky stated walking into the abandoned classroom they had chosen as a meeting place. "His classmates said they hadn't seen him yesterday."

Betty's face pulled into a concerned frown. "You don't think he transferred schools do you?"

"He's a bastard if he does that." Vicky gritted "Always knew his goody-two-shoes act was a flop. You remember in grade nine when he planted those exam questions in my locker?"

"He said Demi made him do it." Betty defended weakly.

Vicky scoffed and rolled her eyes. "I bet he'll say the same for this case. Nothing but selfishness makes you sacrifice your friends. Sel-fish-ness."

"Can we focus on the main issue here?" Tokunbo asked. "None of us have seen or heard from Eli since Friday. Today is Wednesday. That's five days people! Only God knows where he is. If we are going to help him, we need to act. Fast! Anyone has a plan?"

The morning breeze rushed gently through the open windows.

"Way ahead of you." Vicky smirked. "Right now we need to find proof that Demi was behind Enoch's incident. The whole thing happened in the basement right?"

Betty and Tokunbo nodded.

"We search the basement then?" Tokunbo asked her.

"Yes. And we'll also search Demi."

The two girls stiffened at her words.

"Calm down." Vicky eased, grabbing a chair to sit on. "There's probably evidence with Demi. In her bag, in her house, with her. We need to find them."

"What we need to do is ban you from watching Crime shows!" Betty screeched.

"Will you lower your voice?!" Tokunbo whispered harshly.

"See," Vicky leaned forward. "I asked this guy in the ArithMeths, some math club that Demi signed up for. They have a meeting this break. Here's the plan."

They stared at her in anticipation.

"Chances are she'll leave her bag in class to attend the meeting. So one of us has to attend the meeting as well to stall her while another checks her bag for proof." Vicky explained.

They mulled over it for a while.

"And the basement? What about it?" Betty asked.

"There's three of us, isn't there? Tokunbo you're on ArithMeth duty." Vicky announced.

"What? Whyyyyy?"

"Cause you look all nerdy duh. Besides Demi knows I hate maths. Me showing up will get her suspicious."

Tokunbo huffed at her words. "How does she know you hate maths?"

Vicky shrugged off her question and turned to face Betty. "Betty you're checking the basement."

Betty blanched visibly. "But it's going to be so dark and scary-"

"Fine! You're checking Demi's bag, you have to-"

"I'm fine with the basement." She grumbled and rolled her eyes when Vicky gave her a cheeky smile.

"That's what I thought. During the break, we move. Got it?"

Two heads nodded and three bodies stood up in unison.

"What if there's no proof? Demi's not an idiot. She'll probably have destroyed anything that could implicate her." Tokunbo said and a pregnant silence ensued.

"We'll have to hope that there is Tokunbo." Betty spoke up finally.

"And if there isn't," Vicky added. "We'll have to get Eli out of this city. It's the only way left."

Dun dun dun!
I know this chapter is short. It's more like a filler chapter. Still, expect more short chapters in the future.
