Chapter Twenty (Editing)

            Victoria

             Someone knocked on her door.

"What?" She barked, pausing the video she was watching.

"You need to come to the living room."

She rolled her eyes in indignation. "I don't need  to do anything Stephanie. I'm busy-"

"There's a police man, well two police men downstairs, Victoria. And they asked to see you. So get downstairs now."

Her eyes widened as her heart began to pummel faster against her ribcage.

What could've  happened? What had Demi done this time?

She dashed out of her room, flew down the stairs and rushed past her mother and Dare ; who stood at the entrance into the living room ; drawing curious stares from the two police men sitting on the sofa.

"What happened?" She asked, slightly out of breath.

"Greet!" One of the police man spat. He was  tall and had a scar on his left cheek. Betty had told her that he was Tokunbo's father. He leaned into the sofa and stared her down with a menacing scowl.

"Good afternoon. How may I help you?" She bit out awkwardly.

                 "Sir." Tokunbo's father sniped again.

                 "What?"

"I am certain that I am very much older than your father here. You will address me as Sir." He stated.

Vicky's face scrunched up petulantly.  "I do not have to do so. I am neither your wife nor your daughter."

"I assure you, if you were my daughter, I'll whip you into shape. My daughter would never dare defy me." He hissed throwing pointed glares at Stephanie and her husband who bristled at his high handedness.

"I believe officer, that how we raise our daughter is none of your business." Dare said.

"I am not your daughter!" Vicky snapped at him.

Tokunbo's Father gave a mocking grin. "I can see how that is working out for you."

"Why are you here?!" Vicky demanded. She had had enough of the man's holier than thou attitude.

                   "To get your statement."

"But I had already done that."

"We just wanted to see if there was anything new. The victim called this morning to change his statement. He said your friend did have a hand in what had happened to him."

"Enoch said that?!" Vicky asked dumbfounded.

"He did." The other police man chipped in earning a glare from his partner. Vicky would've laughed if she wasn't so conflicted within.

"But that's not what he said before!"

"Yes. He claims to have recalled the hazy part of his memory Narrated the ordeal to us-"

"And you believed him?! It's been a week and two days since he was beaten up. I think that's unlikely-"

"What you think is not the issue here brat! Do you have a different statement or do you know where the culprit might be?" Tokunbo's father yelled taking everyone in the room aback. For a moment there was pin drop silence.

"No. I don't. Eli may be arranged and stubborn, but he would never hurt his friend. It's Demi. It's all Demi. You have got believe that none of this is Eli's fault." She pleaded.

The two police men shook their heads and rose to leave.  "We will leave now Mr and Mrs Martins. Have a happy Sunday."

Vicky watched them leave. Eli would never hurt Enoch. She was certain. But why would Enoch lie against Eli?

"Victoria," Her mothers voice penetrated her thoughts.  "What did you mean when you said Demi was responsible for this?"

Vicky gave her  a bitter smile.

"Let's just say that because of you dear mother, my ex best friend is out to destroy me and my friends. Happy?" She hissed, stomped up to her room and grabbed her phone.

                  "Betty? Hello Betty."

                  "Vicky hey. What's up?"

"Police men just left here. Did they come to your house this morning?"

"No. Haven't seen anyone. See talk quickly. I'm cooking. What happened?"

Vicky pinched her nose. "Enoch testified against Eli. This morning."

                    "He did?"

"Yeah he claimed to have just recalled that Eli was involved. I can't believe this. You don't think Demi feigned her voice and lied to the police do you?"

"Don't know. Don't care." Betty replied nonchalantly.

"What on Earth do you mean by you don't care? Your brother is in major danger! His life will literally be ruined if he goes to prison for this!"

"At least I won't get blamed for his decision if he's in prison."

Vicky's jaw dropped open at Betty's words.  "I can't take you seriously right now. I get that you're mad and angry and hurt. But this is way beyond what you feel Betty."

"So my feelings aren't important? Thanks a lot Vics, now you and my dad are on the same page. Congrats."

"Oh come on! Betty I didn't mean it like that. There are just something's more important than whinning over your gender obsessed father. Don't be stupid about this." Vicky chastised then felt her stomach drop at Betty's reply.

"Thanks a lot Vicky. I'll do you a favour so you don't have to talk to this stupid person again."
