Chapter Thirty (Editing)

           TOKUNBO

She hadn't realized how worried about Eli she had been until she had seen him. Tokunbo found herself running into his arms in glee.

"Never thought I'd see the day you would be happy to see me." Eli laughed as he wrapped his arms around her bony length.

"Never thought I'd see the day I would be happy to see you either." Vicky said as she approached them.

Elijah gave her a wide grin, pulled away from Tokunbo and opened his hands wide. "Come on Vics, you know you want to."

Tokunbo watched as Vicky gave him a disgusted look, then an alarmed one as he stalked towards her with the stupid maniacal smile stuck on his face.

"Eli, do not come near me or I'll castrate you." She threatened.

"I'll take my chances." He replied then enveloped her in a tight hug while she screamed for help. A bout of laughter echoed among the group and for a tiny moment, everything felt okay. Normal. Tokunbo wondered how things could've been if Demi wasn't causing such a racket in their lives. A few minutes later, they stood in a circle talking in hushed hurried tones.

"What the heck?! You should know better than to accept a deal with the devil." Vicky chastised, smacking his head.

"Ow! I know that. But what would you have me do? I had really thought you guys didn't give two figs about me. Every man for himself and all that shit. Especially after what Enoch..." His voice trailed weakly and a pregnant silence ensued.

"I still don't think Enoch did it willingly." Tokunbo muttered. Enoch loved his friend very much. She knew that. There was no way he would willingly betray Eli unless he was compelled to.

"Does it matter? The fact that he would throw me to the dogs to save his ass still stands. Backstabbing SO-"

"Let's not talk about Enoch right now." Betty cut in. "So, Eli, what did Demi ask you to do? What was her deal?"

"She was supposed to tell me today- crap! What if she's on her way now? You guys need to go."

Vicky barked a short, loud laugh  at the terror frozen on his face. "I doubt it. She's in lunch detention thanks to Tokunbo here."

"Skinnine?" Eli glanced at her and she felt her face burn.

                        "It was nothing." She murmured.

"Nothing??? Girl you made everyone believe Demi was beating you up! You should've seen the way she tangled herself up with the witch. I had thought she really was getting pummeled into the ground. Where did you even get the crazy idea from?"

Three pairs of eyes stared at her expectantly.

"From Jackie Chan?" She replied and burst into laughter at the sour look on their faces. "What? The guy does it a lot in his movies. What were you guys expecting?"

"I had hoped you would say from your dad or something." Elijah grumbled.

Vicky snorted. "I wasn't hoping for anything in particular. But Jackie Chan was definitely unexpected. Man, you are such a geek."

                Yeah whatever.

She rolled her eyes. Her father loved action movies. Especially Jackie's because of his constant element of comedy. She had grown to love it as well. "We have pressing matters to discuss. Her lunch detention won't last forever neither will our break."

"She's right. Betty told me you guys are looking for clues. Please tell me you have a solid plan." Eli sighed.

"Well we were hoping we could find proof that Demi was responsible for all that happened. And if we couldn't find any, we would find a way to get you out of the city." Vicky explained "But we need a plan with a lot backbone. Something tangi- Wait a minute, Eli where are you staying?"

"Uhh, Demi gave me a place to stay. Some motel."

Betty gasped. "Seriously??? How is she even able to afford it?"

Eli raised his shoulders and lowered them. "She's with the Skies. What do you expect?"

Tokunbo glanced at Vicky who seemed lost in thought. "What is it?"

"Just thinking." The dark haired girl grunted. "Where is this motel?"

Eli scrunched up his face in thought. "Paragon motel on some street called Abosede street."

Vicky snapped her fingers "Haha! I knew it! She is keeping an eye on you. She lives on the same darned street. You need to leave that place immediately."

"Wait! Let's not be hasty. Think this through Vicky. Demi promised Eli a way out of this city if he would do what she wanted. We're obviously going to be affected by whatever she's planning." Tokunbo interjected. "We need to know what that is. What we need is an inside man."

She felt a hard slap on her back when she finished talking.

"I'm starting to like this police daughter." Vicky announced with a cheshire smile on her face.
