Doodling on cardboard
*Tess*
The kids are already inside. So I focus on the tray and the very handsome man walking in front of me. Those jeans fit exceptionally good on his ass. Well at least now I have something pretty to look at. Physically he could easily be the hero stepping out from one of my books.
He manage to open the door for me. Holding it open with his body. He lifts the tray up, to allow me to walk under it. "After you my lady".
"Well thank you. Such a gentleman. Your wife must be really proud". I say, as I squeeze past him. Yup I did it, the subtle comment, fishing to hear if he is married.
He chuckles lightly as he lets go of the door, following me. "Just doing what every man should do. And unfortunately no wife. No kid either. And no I'm not some creep crashing a school party. My sister is sick so I am here with my nephew".
A woman in slacks and a cottoncandy pink cardigan set came stalking over. "Oh are those the cakes Tess. Thank God. I need them over here so they are ready after the introduction".
"Yeah it is Laura". I say, stopping myself from rolling my eyes. I went to highschool with Laura, she was the head cheerleader and she never liked me.
We put down the trays and I pull of the lids. I really put a lot of work into these for the kids. There is a big christmas themed cake and snowman cupcakes. Zac looks at them. "Wow. Those looks amazing. Were did you buy these ?"
"I didn't. I actually made them". I say feeling proud. I always love when people compliment my work as I put a lot of time and work into it.
He looks at me, and a beautiful smile spreads on his lips, those lips looks so soft. "You made them ? You should do this professionally".
"Well I kind of do. I have a little cake shop, with a fifties style cafe. And I also makes cakes for weddings and such". I say biting my lip. I don't like to bragg.
He runs his fingers through his hair. "That has to be a huge succes. Your husband must be so proud of you". He looks around like he is looking for someone.
"No husband, boyfriend, golden retriver or kids. Like you I am here as a stand in for my sister. She got called into work". I tell him.
"What a shame, I really like golden retrivers". He says sending me a flashing smile. "Then what about we sit together as we are both here alone and probably don't know as many people as the others ?"
I giggle at his first comment. Oh he is not only handsome, he is also very charming. "Well that sounds like a great idea".
"Let me lead you to your assigned seat then my lady". He says, offering me his arm and I take it. Letting him walk me over to a table. He holds out the chair for me to sit down.
As Laura holds a long speech about the parents association and remembering that this is a special occasion and that the kids shouldn't have cake and sugar on a regular basis, and yada yada yada. I discreetly watches Zac. I must admit that I normally prefer men to be clean shaven or have a bit of stubbles, but on him a beard looks amazing. I am pretty sure he looks good without it too though.
There is something about the way he keeps moving those big hands around, running those long fingers along the edge of the table that are hypnotising. His lips move slightly, like he singing to himself. Now when I look closer I notice how snug that sweater is on his chest, like he has resantly bulged up, and the shirt is from before.
*Zac*
I have been talking to Tess while we pretend to make christmas decorations. Or well I pretend. She is making elaborate stars and woven hearts. Apparently she is very artistic. Me well not so much to be honest.
"How come you don't have kids of your own ?" It kind of just slips out and I try to explain. "I mean, you seem like the perfect mom. Baking and making christmas decorations".
She blushes prettily. "Well as you know it takes more than one persone to.. well make kids. And I just haven't met that guy yet".
"It isn't easy finding the right person, believe me I know". I say, having thought once that I had found the right woman, only to realise it was a mistake, has made me more cautious.
We sit for a bit in silence and Tess seems to take it as the moment to change the subject. "So what do you do ? I mean that is what you are supposed to ask right ?"
"Well I guess so". I say with a chuckle. Until now she didn't seem to know me, which is kind of nice. "I am an actor actually".
She looks me over. "Well isn't everyone around here ? But what do you do beside acting then ? Waitor, vallet ? Store clerk ?"
I can't help chuckling. I know she means no offence. A lot of actors and models work those jobs, trying to break through. "Well none of them. I am lucky enough to be able to make enough acting to stick with that".
"Sorry I meant no offence". She says, looking like she wants the ground to swallow her. "I am happy for you that it works out for you. I have just heard so many men say they are actors, when really they have been an extra once or twice and clear tables for a living".
I send her a smile. "Don't worry, no offence taken. But you can trust me not to pretend to be someone I am not".
Just then Ethan comes running over to me. "Uncle Zac, uncle Zac what are you making ? Can I see what it is ?"
"Uhh its a.. well look". I hold up the piece of cardbord I have been doodling and glueing stuf on. It looks like.. well a piece of cardbord made by a 3 year old.
Ethan looks at it, then at me. "Uh what is it ? It looks like someone ate glitter and crepe paper and threw it up on some red cardboard".
"Hey it is actually a very good... stop being such a brat". I say and when both Ethan and Tess starts laughing I sigh and crumble up the offending thing. "Yeah you are right, making things of cardboard isn't my strong side".
Ethan gives me a hug. "Don't worry uncle Zac, I am sure there are other things you are good at". Then he sprints of laughing.
