Chapter Twelve

After we all finished eating, I offered to help Bard clean up, but that didn't last long when Sebastian came to find me.

"(Y/N), it's time for your training," Sebastian called from the kitchen doorway.

"It's so early, though," I commented, still sore from the training the night before.

"Well yes, my Lord decided to call it an early night tonight," Sebastian commented. "Now come. The earlier we start the sooner we finish."

"Sorry, Bard, I'll help you tomorrow," I said to Bard who was currently washing plates.

"Don't worry about it (Y/N)," Bard smiled as he gave me a small wave.

Sebastian lead me back to the courtyard where the training commenced. It he started with warmups and then wanted to test my speed and strength. Then he did the same as the night before, practicing with his knives. I was about at the same natural skill level as the night before dodging, catching, and throwing them back at him. It went on for another hour before he stopped us for a break.

"Sebastian..." I painted, clutching my knees. "Can we please...slow down? I'm exhausted."

"That's weird, you shouldn't be..." Sebastian commented. "Your reflexes and speed were nearly twice of that when I timed you after telling you to run as fast as you could...and I can tell we haven't even scrapped the surface level. What are you?"

I was still trying to catch my breath. I still had no idea what he was on about. I didn't know much about my past. All I knew was a life of scrapping the barrels to survive.

"I...I don't know what you are talking about," I said to him, controlling my breathing.

"One more task," Sebastian smirked.

"What's that?" I snarled, knowing that he was enjoying this.

"I'm going to send Pluto on you. Twenty minutes. If you can evade him for twenty minutes, I'll come aide you, and you can all it a night," Sebastian slowly explained as he leaned down to my level.

"What if he attacks me or I'm not fast enough?" I questioned.

"Then you weren't worth it. Remember, you are just a commoner, worse than that. Your life is expendable.

I took a gulp and gave him a small nod, showing that I understood.

"Good," Sebastian smile.

He then let out a high-pitched whistle which awoke the once sleeping Pluto. Out of no where the raging Demon Hound appeared out of the bushed. I looked around to see that Sebastian had completely disappear. It was now just me and the corrupt Pluto.

Pluto let out a loud growl before I watched his mouth start to flare up. I quickly moved to the left to avoid his flames. It soon became very apparent that Sebastian was not about to help me in this situation, so I continued to run. I heard Pluto howl more, and I took the opportunity to slip behind a tree.

My calves burned. I was filled with small cuts. I was tired. I couldn't even think over the sound of my heartbeat.

I need to think. It's only a matter of time before Pluto senses me over here.

As I was brain storming, I noticed one of the small knives that Sebastian used.

If I do this right, I could easily wound Pluto and make a further escape. At least long enough to outlast this time limit.

I took the knife into my hand. It was plenty sharp, and if I aimed right, I could at least wound him to slow him down.

I heard Pluto running after behind me.

This is it.

I quickly spun around shooting the knife out to his back ankle. It looked on target when Sebastian appeared in a flash to catch it.

"Pluto, down!" Sebastian commanded.

Pluto instantly halted at his words, and Sebastian's piercing red eyes landed back onto me.

"The task I gave you was to outrun him, not wound him," Sebastian simply said.

He was so calm, but the aura around him had me in a bit of shock. Was he upset? Was I in trouble?

"Well, I think we should call it a night. I will see you in the morning, (Y/N)," Sebastian stated before going back inside.

"...y-yes sir," I slowly whispered, ready to collapse.

I slowly dragged myself up to the third floor where I slowly washed up and laid in my bed, where it took no time for me to pass out.
