Behind the scenes (2nd)
'Rosies Posies' proved a small, cramp store cluttered with assorted sized tables, cabinets and shelves, all housing a vast array of plants.
"It's like a rainforest in here" the woman said with narrowed eyes as she looked around "down to the murky floor" she added as she gave a hint of scowl.
"Do you mind! Show a little respec..." he began to demanded in a hushed tone, but was cut short..
"It's not her is it?" the short haired female asked fairly loud as she gestured her head towards a young female sat at the till.
A tanned youth sporting a high, peroxide ponytail and a yellow velvet shell suit, focused on her heavily bejewelled mobile phone glanced up momentarily at the other females words, yet quick returned to her device.
"No no no, that not her" Phill quietly answered.
"Oh good" she uttered with a sigh.
"I wouldn't turn your turn nose up at young Channel, she's family" Phill almost whispered.
"Really?" the woman enquired in a matching hush, she then added "Like, a descendant?" she asked.
"Yes, you, could, say that" he thought as he spoke.
"Gosh, I'd be devastated if my descendants had become such chavs" she laughed.
"What did I just tell you?" he snapped.
"Oh come on, just look at her" she whispered as she looked towards the girl.
"Just behave yourself will you" he muttered "I would never have thought you would be so ignorant".
"Oh come on Phil, I'm far from ignorant, you know how much I hate bigots" she claimed.
Phil sighed loudly as he spread his full hand over his forehead. He then looked the woman square in the face with an expression of exasperation, nerves etched into his aging face.
"So where is she?" the woman asked.
"I'll, I'll take you to meet her now" he hesitantly said before he ushered her to move forward.
The pair manoeuvred through the unsymmetrical isles of plant and flower rich end and coffee tables. They made their way towards the podium the girl at the till sat at.
"Hey Phil" she quickly greeted with a vacant face and a short nod before returning her gaze to her device.
"Hello Channel" he greeted in return.
The short haired lady shook her head at this exchange as she she followed Phill, who moved onto the podium, behind Channel and towards a door at the back wall.
Phil produced a key, he opened the door and gestured for the woman to pass through first.
The two walked down a cold and dark hallway.
Wall shelves fitted in rows and columns busied up the hallway; all holding further and flowers.
The woman hugged her bare arms, she looked towards the murky floor with a furrowed brow "what type of carpet is.." she said as she gave the floor a dig with the tip of her mountain boots, though she stopped upon the floor separating, revealing itself to be moss.
At the end of the hall was a large metal door, with a combination lock.
"Avert your gaze" Phil ordered as his pointed finger hovered over the pad.
The woman rolled her eye before turning her back to him.
After inputting the code, he dragged open the door, revealing a dark room that came with a strong mildew odour.
He ushered the lady in before him.
"I'm meant to go in there?" she asked, both annoyed and bemused.
The man chose instead to go ahead of her, saying nothing whilst seemingly adopting her mood.
Switching on a light at the door, the florescent tube dully illuminated another heavily shelved room resembling the hallway; only the floor, for the most part, sported huge bed of flowers.
The woman moved forward, fixed on the variety of flowers with a bewildered look; a colorful cocktail of species, tall stalks to shrubbery, all arranged in chunky bunches.
Phil tentatively strided and leaped over this cluttered ground, landing in plain patches.
"Watch your step" he warned.
The woman however remained in the doorway, once averting her vision from the flower bed, she scanned the rest of the room; wall shelves, cabinets, a deep sink in one corner parallel to her, an old wall stove opposite that.
"Did this place use to be a restaurant?" she asked from her spot.
"A small cafe that closed in 1958" he answered from the door.
The woman nodded "Looks like it's been neglected since" she added under her breath.
"Ms Calci's through here" Phil claimed as he stood by a heavy looking door "please seize with the rude remarks, this place is her pride and joy"
"Is that a freezer?" the woman quietly questioned.
Phill nodded only in acknowledgement of her question before turning back to the door, he gave himself time to apparently collect himself before he slowly turned to face the woman again
"Are you ready?" he asked.
"Sure" she replied with a shrug.
