It took Mark Walters only a month to get the city court to process the paperwork in revoking the divorce settlement dealings with Noah Walters. His lawyer presented his case to the judge - stating that Mia Clark is unsuitable to raise Noah Walters while Mark Walters and his wife Olivia Mills are capable to provide a wholesome family for the young child. Mark Walters had been confident that the judge would take his side when he sees how crude Mia Clark was in comparison to Olivia Mills' graceful demeanor. No one expect to see a gorgeous, model-like woman entering the court wearing black heels, red slacks, and white button up blouse. Mia Clark walked in the courtroom with her head held high while her lawyer followed right beside her. Seeing the refined Mia Clark, Mark Walters' eyes nearly popped out.
"Your honor, my name Kendra Coleman - representing my client, Mrs. Mia Clark for the case hearing today"
Mia politely tilts her head toward the judge, acknowledging his presence before she took her seat and let her lawyer handle the court hearing. The entire time, she did not look over at Mark Walters or Olivia Mills. She kept her focus either on her lawyer or on the judge. For a child custody case, the trial normally runs for hours or even days. But when the judge made his decision within an hour after hearing Mia Clark's lawyer defense, Mark Walters was stunned. The results went to Mia Clark's favor.
"Your honor!" Mark Walters could not believe what he was hearing. "How could you award my child to that vile woman? Are you out of your mind?"
The sound of the gavel silenced the courtroom.
"Mr. Walters, calm down or you will be removed from my courtroom"
Mark Walters clearly was pissed but his lawyer grabbed hold of his shoulder sternly. It was unacceptable in any judge's eyes to be disrespected in his or her courtroom.
"My mind is clear" The judge continued as he opened the case file before him. "You have sign over all rights to Noah Walters four years prior. Mrs. Clark has presented the legal binding contract for today's hearing."
"Your honor, that may be true" Mark Walters' lawyer spoke firmly. "But the law exists to protect the people. How can you not see the child well being is better off with my client and his wife?"
"Well being?" The judge looked at Mark Walters' lawyer like the man was an idiot. "It seems you have not done your research Mr. Yates. If you had, you would not say such words"
Completely lost, Mark Walters and his lawyer frowned at the judge's clear amusement.
"Let me educate you today. In a child custody case, the court always seeks the best interest for the child. The best interest for the child includes the following factors: your relationship with the child and the stability of the child's home life which you provide." The judge regards everyone in court. "And for the child's best interest, the court has award Mrs. Clark full custody"
Before anyone could complain, the judge stood with the case file in hand.
"The court room is adjourn" The police officer announced as the judge left the courtroom.
While Mark Walters wanted to stop the old judge, his lawyer held him back. It was useless to change a judge's decision. Now they have two options. One is to negotiate with Mia Clark and her lawyer. Or they wait until the court issue is finalized before they could appeal the case to a new court. If they decide to appeal, the process will be long and harsh. Mark Walters' lawyer understood the cruel process during the appeal and explained to the man that the chances of him winning custody will be very slim.
"I can't believe this!"
Mark Walters smashed his fist onto the podium while he glared at Mia Clark.
"Honey..." Olivia Mills gently placed a hand on the man's back, wanting to comfort him.
"You witch" Mark Walters snarled at Mia as she stood from her seat like nothing was wrong. "What did you do? Did you sleep with that old man to get him over to your side?"
"Mark" His lawyer quickly hushed him. "We're still in court"
But Mark Walters was too blinded with rage to care.
"How vulgar" Mia smirked at the man before she turned to her lawyer with a smile. "Thank you for the hard work. I trust you can handle the rest?"
"Of course ma'am" The younger woman smiled. "Shall we go?"
Mia nodded and walked off with her lawyer ignoring the angry man glaring after her.
