Chapter 9
We chose to act as if nothing happened. At least I did. I was certain that his confession was there only to disturb me, only to take revenge for all the times where he found himself disoriented by my fault. He started to make sure we would meet at each meal, before and after school, and even during classes! He constantly showed me this big smile that made him so adorable, like he had something in mind. Anyway, even if his confession was true, he couldn't possibly feel something toward me because we were brothers. No matter my opinion on this matter. We also grew up under the same roof. Sure, we kissed when he was still in middle school, but that was just an experiment! That is why, after a lot of thinking, I decided to act as if nothing happened. He didn't accept it however and did everything to make me realize it. So every time he talked about it, I would change the subject, exit the room or ignore him. And the more days went by, the less he was mentioning it. Until one day where he stopped talking to me completely, stopped coming out of his room except to go to school and to eat, at different hours than me, of course.
So this new Jimin was only a phase and I suppose that he had already stopped "loving me" like he said. I didn't see it coming but this change had occurred in the span of two years. I had the time to enter university and him 12th grade. We lost contact with each other. He didn't always come home at night, saying that he was sleeping at this or that friend's place.
Then, I became too curious to not search his room one night when he wasn't there. Ii thought I wouldn't find anything when I slid my hand under his bed and felt something. Something square or rectangular shaped. I gave a little stretch and took out what seemed to be a metallic chocolate box.
"So he has some savings huh." I said loudly. I took out the cover and was taken by surprise when I saw the content. Bills. Lots and lots of dollar bills. Suddenly, in my head, everything connected and I could only up with one conclusion.
"What are you doing in my room?"
I slightly jumped when I heard his fake Daegu accent and turned around. Jimin was there, still wearing his school uniform. He had grown a bit taller since last time and now styled his hair more elegantly. Il leaned on his door and crossed his arms. I stood up and pointed to the box while staring at him.
"Where does all this money come from?"
"It's none of your business."
He entered and closed the box to slid it back under his bed.
"I am serious Jimin."
"They're some donations from my friends."
"Friends' donations or money from clients?"
He stared at me coldly and stood up. He was now as tall as my eyebrows.
"What are you talking about?"
"Jimin, are you selling your body?"
He stayed quiet still staring at me. I sighed.
"I'll take that as a yes..."
He sat on his bed and lowered his head, in shame.
"Why are you doing it?"
"To pay for college."
"Why don't you ask for a scholarship?"
"Because they only give it to good students."
"Jimin you-"
"Do you really think that I would go from futon to couch to backseat of cars if I could get a scholarship?!"
And just like that.
I stayed quiet. He was right about his statement but not his behavior. How can I ever accept the fact that my little brother was selling his body? You're right, impossible.
"Aim for a cheaper college then."
"I can't."
"Why?"
"Because it's yours."
Jimin surprised me sometimes. There were moments when he was so adorable and childish and others when he was so mature. A smirked appeared on my lips.
"Why?"
"Because you go there."
"Are you stupid? Don't you have a goal in life?"
"My goal is you."
"So you really are stupid."
"Yes I know I am dumb but it's your fault. If I hadn't had fallen in love with you in middle school I wouldn't be here today!"
"Even if you loved me or any other bullshit, it's useless for you to follow me!"
"Why?"
"Because I don't love you and I never did!"
He looked up and stayed quiet for a while. His face didn't show any emotions.
