Chapter 3

Same day, same moon
24/7 every moment repeats
My life is in between
Jobless twenty-somethings are afraid of tomorrow
It's funny, you think anything
is possible when you're a kid
When you feel how hard it is to get through a day

I have a long way to go but
why am I running in place?
I scream out of frustration
but the empty air echoes
I hope tomorrow will
be different from today
I'm just wishing.

I finally came home from this exhausting day. Jimin was watching TV on the couch. Like always we didn't say a word to each other. Our conversations were becoming shorter et now that we didn't share the same room, everything changed. Our little fights? There were only happening twice or thrice a month, and we didn't even take revenge anymore. I was now in middle school and he was now in fifth grade. Our mom was satisfied with this situation, naturally, since she didn't come home anymore. She was spending her days at work and her nights at her new boyfriend's place. She doesn't want to bring him here, and that's for the best. A brat is enough to deal with, no need for a man who will be called "dad". I went to my room while Jimin was going into his own. I started my homework.

When I finished studying, I decided to take off my school uniform. I opened my closet to look for my grey shirt that I was using as pajamas. But, I couldn't find it. I understood right away. I left my room and walked across the hallway. I opened the door in the back without knocking, and found Jimin, half naked, his back was facing me. His back was covered with bruises and scratches even though he wasn't in any sports that could explain those wounds... He jumped and quickly put on the shirt that he was about to take off.

"What are you doing here?!"

He frowned at me. His little voice and his Busan accent made him less imposing.

"What are those marks?"

"I fell. It's nothing."

I sighed at the poor excuse he gave me. I headed toward his closet to look for my shirt.

"Doesn't matter if you don't want to tell me..." I shrugged.

"What are you looking for?"

He stood up and joined me in from of the closet. He was as tall as my neck. I took advantage of that and lifted the back of his shirt. He quickly turned around and slammed his back against the wall while letting out a painful scream without realizing it.

"So what is it?" I asked.

"It's not your business."He spat out.

"Are you being bullied?"

He looked away.

"Who is it?"

"Some guy in my class..." He mumbled

"How long has it been going on?"

"Since you started middle school..."

I sighed and finally found my shirt. I took it while talking.

"When are you done tomorrow?"

"I am in elementary school, I always end at 4pm... wait, why?"

"Oh, nothing."

I left his room.

I still didn't know why, the next day I waited for Jimin at the end of school. Lucky him, his bullies were throwing rocks at him. I remember telling them: " I will show you what three puzzles of 1000 pieces look like." Everyone stared at me but I didn't care. And that was how I defended Jimin.. This was also first time I said that: "Next time you touch my little brother, I'll kill you." before leaving.
