Chapter 1

In the corner of my memory
A brown piano settled on one side
In the corner of my childhood house
A brown piano settled on one side

I remember that moment
Way taller than my height
The brown piano that guided me
I looked up to you
I yearned for you
When I touched you with my small finger
I feel so nice mom I feel so nice
I played the piano wherever my hands took me
I didn't know your significance back then
Back then I was content with just looking at you

That day, was a Thursday.

I remembered because mom ended work early on Thursdays.

I remember her opening the door when I came down through the wooden stairs to welcome her.

She wasn't alone.

My mom had long black hair. She was wearing a white and baby pink dress with white flats. She was just gorgeous, but the only thing that I inherited from her was her skin that was as white as snow. I was walking down the last step of the staircase and looked up to my mom. My eyes went from her beautiful smile to the small child that was by her side. Small, elongated eyes and plump lips. His hair were a mess. I looked up to my mom with interrogating eyes.

"This is Jimin. From now on, he will be your little brother."

I didn't move one bit. Why, so suddenly?

My life changed that day. Without being able to say a word, I had to share my room with him. My mom placed a mattress on the floor for the time being. Until we could go and buy a bed for him. He had a big smile that made him seem like an idiot. He appeared to be more like a mochi than a human. I was lying peacefully on my bed, reading a boring comic strip when the annoying kid interrupted me.

" Hey, what are you reading?" Jimin asked me.

"You're not suppose to talk to me like that." I answered without looking at him.

"Why? You are my big brother after all!" Jimin continued.

" No, you're wrong." I corrected him.

He was going to say something when my mom called us to eat dinner. I went ahead and was followed by the newcomer. But, he walked faster than me and sat in front of my mom. At my spot. I went to him.

"That's my spot."

Of course, my mom quickly pointed her finger to the seat next to her and told me to let it go.

" Did you guys take the time to get to know each other better?"

The stranger shook his head and added:

"He was reading. It was quiet."

My mom turned her head toward me and furrowed her eyebrows. I understood what she meant by that right away.

" I don't talk much. I can't do anything about it! He didn't even ask me questions!" I said.

"You were supposed to welcome him! It is not up to him to do the introductions. You are 10 and he is only 8. You should've at least tried!"

I sighed and stood up.

"Yoongi come back here immediately!"

I ignored my mom who was calling me and went upstairs while stomping my feet at each step I took.

Finally, the evening was as quiet as before dinner. He was in the room as well. He sat on his mattress and didn't move. Sometimes he glanced over at me and then looked away to stare at another spot in the room. My mom came into the room. I ignored her and she went on to opened my wardrobe. She took out an old white shirt of mine and gave it to the so called Jimin.

"You should just wear that to sleep Chimchim."

I frowned when I heard my mom calling him that way. She took out my navy blue school uniform and turned my way.

"I guess Jimin can borrow this from you tomorrow."

I stared at her, then the uniform, then at Jimin who still had that stupid smile on his face. My eyes went back to my mom.

"No." I protested.

" You don't have a choice anyway." she told me. "Tomorrow, you'll wear this to your new school Jimin." she added.

He nodded. My mom placed the uniform on the desk and exited my room, closing the door behind her.

"If you want, I can say that the uniform is too big for me." He mumbled.

I didn't answer.

" Now that I think about it. What will you be wearing to school tomorrow?" He asked.

"I don't go to school anymore."

He stayed quiet.

And just like that, the night went on. When I woke up, Jimin wasn't there anymore, and neither was the uniform. Like nothing had happened. If only that could true. Like any other day, I spent my day in the big and quiet room. There was only two things in the room. A grand brown piano with its black stool. The top was all dusty, but the piano keys seemed new. I felt so nice when my fingers brushed against the piano keys. So peaceful, so free. I could share all of my emotions through the music that the piano made. This instrument gave me wings.

It was my piano.

Finally the weekend came around. I stayed in bed reading even though Jimin was there too. Then, my mom called me to set the table. So I did. I would do anything to get away from this kid. I was about to set the last plate on the table when I heard a familiar sound come from the source of my freedom. I placed it quickly on the table and ran upstairs to arrive stumbling in the room where Jimin was, seated on the stool in front of the piano.

"Get out!"

He looked at me with surprise. He obviously didn't understand the situation. So I repeated myself while shouted this time, and he finally stood up and exited the room, head down with tears in his eyes, like a kid that was just reprimanded. Wait... He was a kid that was just reprimanded. His reaction was totally understandable. He headed towards my room but stopped in the middle.

"Why are you so mean to me?"

He turned around and I came closer to him while staring straight into his eyes. A smirk formed on my lips. If I dared to, I would have punched him right in the face. That face that seemed so dumb irritated me, his Busan accent bothered me so much. I would have love to destroy those hands that touched my precious piano.

"Because I hate you."
