Chapter 6

I began to stir in my sleep. I opened my eyes and sat up realizing my phone was ringing.

"Hello," I said sounding grumpy into my phone.

"Are you seriously still sleeping?" I heard Casey say on the other end.

"Yes," I said rubbing my eyes. I was not a morning person. I was always grumpy when I woke up, I needed time to adjust.

"It's after 1," she said sounding unamused.

"Are you serious?" I asked, looking at the clock on my wall. I couldn't believe I slept that late.

"No i'm lying. Anyways, I have a question," she said sounding innocent.

"Shoot," I said stretching, still trying to wake up.

"Will you come see a movie with Ashton and I?"

"I'm broke," I said looking over at my wallet sitting on my bed side table.

"I'll pay," she said immediately.

"No, and I don't exactly want to be a third wheel," I said truthfully.

"Yes, and invite Luke then."

"Funny."

"You said you didn't want to third wheel," Casey said sounding defeated.

"Please?" she asked begging.

"Fine, but you're paying and buying me an icee," I said to her.

"Why do you even want us to come? Don't you want some alone time with Ash?"

"Yeah, but I want to see if he'll act flirty in front of you guys, or if this is really just us being friends. I feel like I've been getting mixed signals," she said sounding confused.

"Just ask Luke to come observe Ashton's actions, why do I have to come?" I asked trying to get myself out of the situation yet again.

"I don't want to be a third wheel to their bromance. I can't keep up with their hockey talk or whatever."

I laughed at her, "fine, let me ask Luke."
"Movie starts at 2:30," she said happily before hanging up.

I sat on the edge of my bed for a moment feeling nervous about asking Luke.

I wanted to call him since it seemed quicker but I thought about texting him instead because then it would be less awkward.

I debated in my head for a minute before deciding to just call him because I was feeling way too lazy to type and wait for him to answer. Who knows how long he could take to finally reply to me.

"Parker," he said answering the phone.

"Hemmings... are you busy?" I asked nervously.

"Not exactly."

"Well Ashton and Casey invited me to a movie, want to come? It's at 2:30" I said biting my lip as soon as I finished my sentence, waiting for an answer.

"Yeah sure," he said and I let out a silent sigh of relief.

"Do you need me to come get you?" he asked.

"Uh, I'm not sure if my dad will be home to let me use his car, but I could always just ask Ashton and Casey."

"I'll just come get you, you don't want to third wheel in that car anyways," he said laughing.

"Yeah I didn't want to third wheel at all honestly, text me when you're on your way," I said laughing as well before the line went dead.

After taking a fairly quick shower and getting dressed, I scribbled my dad a note and placed it on the living room table. I grabbed my wallet, and a light sweater as I saw Luke pull into my driveway.

"Long time no see," I said chuckling as I got into Luke's car.

"I know! How are the kids?" he asked and we both started to laugh.

*Luke and I just left my house* I sent to Casey.

*Okay we're sitting outside of the theater. By the way, sleepover at Ally's tomorrow. She's getting back in town tonight.*

After scanning her message I locked my phone and looked out the window, observing my surroundings. I had taken this drive so many times before so I knew exactly what I was going to see, but I still enjoyed looking at it all.

"They're sitting outside of the theater," I said to Luke while smoothing out the wrinkles on my shirt.

As Luke parked, I realized he was such a good driver. I mean, a lot of kids at our school; teenagers, and boys in general, were bad drivers. They drove too fast or were too reckless, but not Luke. It made me feel better because I always worried about driving with other people. I knew how fast my life could be put in danger. After my sister got in her first accident, almost splitting her head open I took driving seriously. That made a couple people call me a stuck up driver, but I would rather be as safe as I can, then be on edge risking my life.

As Luke pushed the button on the elevator from the parking garage I took in a deep breath.
I didn't like elevators. It's not that I'm necessarily scared of them, but they made me extremely uncomfortable.

"You alright?" Luke asked raising his eyebrow.

"Hate elevators," I said looking up at the ceiling.

"Oh I'm sorry, we could have taken the stairs. Claustrophobic?" Luke asked looking slightly concerned.

"Oh no, I just feel like I'm gonna get stuck in one. I have tremendously terrible luck," I said letting out a small laugh at myself.

Luke nodded in response.

The elevator doors open, and I began to breathe normally. I immediately spotted Casey and Ashton.
We all exchanged our hello's as we walked towards the front window.

"Here," Casey said to me, putting $15 in my hands "ticket, and an icee."

I laughed at her, "I think i'll just take your cash and leave."

"No way, I paid for you to be miserable with us at a movie" she said laughing putting emphasis on the miserable even though she knew that was far from the truth.

As I approached the front window, I started to give the money to the clerk but watched as a large hand grabbed the dollar bills out of my hand.

"Two for Captain America please," Luke said standing next to me grinning.
He then turned to Casey, "here," he said handing her the money which she thanked him for.

"Luke," I whined throwing my head back and rolling my eyes at him.

"At least let Casey pay for icee's," I said trying not to smile at his cute and polite gesture.

I tried to be "mad" at him, but with his smile I couldn't do it. I cracked, letting out a smile and laughing lightly.

"I got it," he insisted licking his lips and giving me his award winning smile.

"You suck," I said sticking my tongue out at him.

"You're welcome," he said rolling his eyes back at me.

Once we walked in, we walked right over to the concession stands.

"Do you like Sour Patch Kids?" Luke turned to me. I nodded in response. I walked over and grabbed some napkins from the condiment stand.

"I got us an icee and some candy to share, is that cool?" Luke asked me when I walked back over.

"Yeah of course. Thanks Luke, you really didn't have to," I said sincerely.

I didn't want him to feel like he had to pay or do anything for me, but it was nice that he did.

"Plus Casey was suppose to pay so you shouldn't have," I said.

"It's really no problem," he said with a short chuckle while I looked over at Casey and Ashton.

They got a drink and some popcorn to share too. Which made me think they were gonna be cliche and touch hands in the popcorn and giggle.

We all made our way into the theater, taking four seats right in the middle. Throughout the movie, I tried to minimize my snacking. I didn't want it to seem that I was drinking all of our icee, or eating all of the candy. I didn't want to waste it either since Luke paid for it.

Luke nudged me and nodded his head towards Casey and Ashton. Ashton pulled the classic yawning and putting one arm around the girl move. I laughed and shook my head at them.

"Last one," Luke whispered holding the last sour patch kid in his hand.

"Eat it," I whispered back but of course that's not what Luke did.

He tore it in half, giving me one end of it before popping the other in his mouth. I giggled and thanked him, but before I turned back to the screen I looked to my left at Casey and Ashton. I looked down noticing they were holding hands and I smiled to myself, knowing this was what Casey wanted.

After the movie finished, we all stretched for a second. Luke and I hit arms and started laughing.

"Ugh your arms are so long," I tried to whine but I ended up laughing instead.

"Yeah long enough to do this," Luke said pushing my arm.

"Quit that kids," Ashton said laughing, "do I need to make you both sit in time out?"

"No dad," Luke groaned as we all made our way to the exit.

"Don't forget about tomorrow! I'll pick you up," Casey called as we began to take our separate ways.

"Okay i'll text you later!" I shouted at her as she became further away from me, lacing her fingers with Ashton's.

"Tomorrow?" Luke asked.

"Oh we're hanging out with our best friend Ally," I said as Luke pulled open the door to the stairwell, "we could have taken the elevator," I laughed.

"I could use the exercise. Ally? Does she go to our school?" he asked, going down the stairs a lot faster than me.

I tried to keep up with his speed. Luke noticed, and broke out into a run as we stepped off the last stair. We were now in a footrace to his car but I couldn't stop laughing. I cursed his long legs once we reached the car, and he beat me by a couple of steps.

"I win. Call me Luke Hemmings, king!" Luke beamed putting his hands on his hips.

"You're like 10 feet tall," I said laughing, "do you want a prize or something?"

"I do actually," Luke laughed.

"I'll come up with something and let you know," he said looking into my deep brown eyes.

"Okay deal," I laughed once more.

"Anyways, no Ally is home schooled" I said slightly jealous.

It seemed awesome to be homeschooled because then I didn't have to wake up early or deal with people, but then again I didn't like the idea. I would miss out on lame school things that I some what enjoyed, like homecoming or prom.

Luke pulled into my driveway in what seemed like a blink of an eye.

"Thanks again, Luke," I said unclicking my seatbelt. I felt sadness creep it's way in. So far I've had a lot of fun with him, but I knew it couldn't last forever. It was just lonely at home, and I tried to avoid feeling that way by being away from home as much as I possibly could be.

"Anytime, thanks for the invite. I had fun," he said smiling at me through the open passenger window.

"You only had fun because you beat me in that race, but i'm winning next time," I said smirking.

"Want to test that right now?" he asked smirking back at me which made me laugh.

"Go home Hemmings!"

"See ya," he said pulling out of my sight.

Once I got inside, I smiled replaying the night in my mind. I locked the door, and turned out the lights before making my way to my room. I threw my phone on my bed then pulled off my shoes before changing into sweats and a cut off t-shirt. I sat at my desk and pulled out a sheet of paper and a pen, making a list of things I wanted to bring to Ally's tomorrow.

Keeping a list made me not forget anything I needed. I was OCD about these type of things.
I looked over the list and after I felt like it was complete, I walked into my bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. I stared at my reflection before flicking off the light and walking back into my bedroom.

I grabbed my phone thinking I should text Luke to make sure he got home safely, but I was shocked when I already had a text from him.

*Yes I got home safely* I read and laughed.

*Good, good night Luke* I sent as I plugged in my phone to its charger. I checked my twitter quickly before leaning over and turning my lamp off on my nightstand. I got comfy before falling asleep, thinking of those piercing blue eyes.
