Chapter 38
I opened my eyes, and found myself laying on Luke's chest. I snuck a look at him and he was staring at the ceiling. I shut my eyes quickly and turned so my back was facing him, I didn't want him to know I was awake just yet.
"I know you're awake," he said as if he was reading my mind. "You breathe differently when you're sleeping."
I let out a small sigh, and flipped back over to face him. He gave me a faint smile which I returned. Luke turned on his side so he was now facing me.
"I never meant to hurt you," he said quietly looking into my eyes. I could see the pain in his eyes, I knew he didn't mean to explode on me. I didn't mean to get so angry with him either, it just kind of happened.
"I know," I mumbled truthfully looking down at the sheets we were laying on. Luke lifted his hand and placed it underneath of my chin, making me look up at him before he studied my eyes with his own for a quick second.
"I'm sorry," he said sternly. I just nodded.
"Do you forgive me?" he asked still looking at me with a serious face.
"I forgive you, but i'm still hurt," I admitted. I know Luke wouldn't want to hurt me, but that doesn't mean I could just act like he never said what he did. I did forgive him, I was just angry at his words.
"Are you mad still?" he asked.
"Yeah I'm still kind of mad but I forgive you," I said which made a big smile appear on Luke's face.
"What?" I asked with a small smile of my own. How could you not smile when Luke was smiling?
He responded by wrapping his arms around me tightly. "You can't be mad at me, i'm cute," he said snuggling into me.
"No i'm still pretty mad," I said trying to be serious. Luke met his eyes with mine, which made me smile.
"You're not mad at me," he said holding me tighter and making me laugh.
"Whatever Lucas," I said rolling my eyes. I was still kind of upset, but I had to give into Luke.
"It's our last full day in Australia," Luke said after a moment.
"Mhmm," I hummed staring up at the ceiling before letting my eyes fall back to Luke.
"My aunt wanted to take us to lunch, and then later we can take a walk back to that spot?" Luke suggested.
"I'd like that," I said with a small smile. Luke took my hand and pulled me up so we could get ready to face our last day in Australia.
-
"Thank you so much, Susan," I said as we walked back into the house after getting lunch.
"You're welcome," she smiled. We sat down in the living room and chatted for a small amount of time about Australia. I told her I loved it, and wish I could come back more often except the plane ride was awfully long. I showed her the photographs I had taken throughout the trip, and told her I wanted to get a few printed.
"Bailey and I are gonna take a walk in a little while," Luke said walking through the living room and into the kitchen to grab some water bottles. His aunt said okay and told us dinner would be done around 7:30, so we had a good amount of time.
I walked back into the room to put on some sneakers rather than the sandals I was wearing.
Luke and I walked out of the house and made our way up the cliff as we had done so before. We sat at the top, with Luke's arm draped around my shoulder and All Time Low playing off of his phone. When we got to the top, I turned to look at Luke and watched as he pulled out his iphone, taking a quick few pictures of the sunset. I couldn't decide which was more beautiful, the sky fading from blue to orange with only a few clouds in the sky, or Luke.
He was focused on his phone, making sure the picture focused properly. I stood behind him, my eyes moved from his black ray bans, to his black vans snapback which he always wore backwards, down to his broad shoulders. I wrapped my arms around him and kissed his shoulder lightly. He turned and smiled at me after he took a few good pictures and we both sat down as we watched the sun go down over the city of Sydney.
I let out a sigh, realizing it was time to get back to reality. When we got back to America, we had to start getting ready for adulthood. We had to graduate, and then move on to college, and find jobs. We would have to embrace the real world, and that was scary.
"What are you thinking about?" Luke asked looking at me, playing with his lip ring.
"The things we have to do when we get back home," I said still looking at the city beneath me. "Like graduation, and college," I said finishing my thought.
Luke nodded, "I remember being a freshman yesterday," I said with a small smile.
I hated high school more than words could explain, but it all went by so fast. I wasn't sure if I was ready for the real world, well what time I had left to live in the real word.
"We're all kids that grew up too fast," Luke said looking at the city too. I nodded in agreement, he was right.
Soon the sky became dark, I said goodbye to the view I had grown to love before Luke and I made our way back to the house.
-
"Thank you for everything," I said as Luke's aunt pulled me into a hug at the airport.
"Anytime sweetie, I'll see you both at graduation in two months," she said as she pulled back from me and hugged Luke. We exchanged our goodbyes, and she wished us a safe flight as Luke and I boarded the plane.
I sat down in the seat next to the window, not excited for the long flight home. Thankfully Luke and I decided to purchase the wifi, so I was occupied most of the way home. Luke and I shared headphones and listened to music, as I texted Casey and Ally excited to see them when I landed.
After watching both Amazing Spider-man movies, four sodas, and a nap; our 22 hour flight was over and we were grabbing our luggage from the conveyer belt.
"Hi," I smiled as we met with Casey and Ally in the parking lot. We both exchanged quick hugs, being away from each other for a week was too long. We climbed into the car and I told Casey and Ally about Australia as we drove towards the apartment.
"It's 3pm here, but it's 5am in Sydney so I think i'm gonna go take a nap," I said as I grabbed my luggage out of the trunk.
"You do that, i'll see you at school Monday," Casey said.
"We'll have to hang out Friday," Ally said afterwards. I agreed and told them both goodbye as Luke and I walked up the steps to our apartment.
We both made our way into the bedroom and I watched Luke drop his luggage and climb right into bed not even taking off his shoes.
I giggled, "Take off your shoes."
Luke groaned before kicking off his shoes, and patting the spot next to him. "Come here," he pouted. He acted like a four year old when he was exhausted, but it was cute because he was extremely cuddly.
"Alright one sec," I said taking off my shoes and then my phone started ringing. I hit the answer button seeing it was my dad, and walked into the other room so I wasn't bothering Luke.
After a short conversation about the trip, I hung up and made my way back into the bedroom.
"Who was it?" Luke asked still awake.
"My dad, he wants us to come to dinner at 7 with my family so he can hear about the trip," I said walking towards the bed.
"Okay, but let's nap for now," Luke said before yawning.
I let out a small laugh and climbed into bed next to Luke. He wrapped his arms around me, and we both drifted off into sleep.
