Chapter 21
I heard my phone alarm go off, so I dragged myself out of bed. I had a long night of tossing and turning, and all I wanted at this very moment was to go back to sleep; but I couldn't.
Casey and I both agreed to meet at Luke's house around 10:30 this morning, since the boys were leaving for Boston today. We wanted to say goodbye right before they left.
I walked over to my closet, throwing on whatever I found first before brushing my teeth. I walked back into my room and grabbed my car keys off my bedside table before walking out the door. I was thankful my car was finally fixed, and since it was sunday I got to use it all day long because my dad didn't have to work.
I got into the car texting Casey I was on my way to get her before pulling out of my driveway.
"Hi," Casey said with a soft smile getting in the car, "How did you sleep?"
"Not well, I tossed and turned," I said quietly, still exhausted.
"You've done that a lot lately," she said which was true. I blamed most of that on the previous cold I had not too long ago.
I pulled into Luke's driveway seeing Luke and Ashton cramming stuff into the car trunk.
"Good morning," Ashton said smiling as we walked up Luke's driveway. I groaned in response to his peppy morning attitude.
"Grumpy Bailey is grumpy," he said giving me a slight frown.
"Sleepy Bailey is sleepy," I said as I walked straight into Luke's arms giving him a hug.
"Good morning," Luke said quietly kissing my forehead.
"Hi," I said with a soft smile.
"So whens your first game of the tournament?" Casey asked as Ashton wrapped an arm around her.
"Tomorrow morning," Luke said.
"But we have a short practice tonight," Ashton said explaining further.
"How long is the drive?" I asked.
"A little over 7 hours," Ashton said which made Luke groan. I definitely didn't want to sit in a crammed car for 7 hours. I laughed and leaned into Luke.
"I'll be out in a minute to leave guys!" Luke's mom hollered with her head sticking out the door, "Good morning ladies!" she called out to us. Casey and I gave her a small wave and smile.
"I guess it's time for us to go," Ashton said pulling Casey in for a hug. I looked up at Luke, meeting his eyes for a quick second before he kissed my forehead and pulled me in for a hug. Our hug lingered, and he placed his chin on top of my head. I let out a breath, trying not to be too sad. He would only be gone for a week, and he promised to get in touch when he could.
"I'll call and text every chance I get. We have two games each day, but it's only a week. I'll be back before you know it," Luke said before pulling away and smiling at me.
"Have fun and good luck," I said kissing Luke quickly.
"I love you," he said quietly into my ear hugging me one last time.
"I love you too."
I pulled back and walked over to Casey's side.
"Have fun guys," she said as we waved and turned our backs to get back into the car.
I pulled open the car door, letting out a sigh. Casey and I decided to spend the day with Ally, keeping ourselves distracted. We were always laughing with Ally, so we wouldn't be sad.
Once we got to her house, we made our way into her room sitting down on her bed. Since the three of us haven't been together for the past few days, we swapped stories on how our days have been.
It was almost noon when Ally turned to me, "Want to go get taco bell?" she asked as if she didn't already know the answer. The three of us climbed into my car making our way to get lunch.
"So how are you and Luke?" Ally asked me as we ate our taco bell in her room.
"Good, I really like him," I said smiling before taking a sip of my drink.
"Have you guys fought or anything yet?"
I shook my head at Ally, "No we haven't really had any differences. I know eventually we probably will fight over something, but Luke is laid back so I don't know what it would be," I explained.
We then changed the subject, talking about what concerts and movies we wanted to go to before the end of the year. Once I was done eating I cleared a spot on Ally's bed for me to lay down. I was having another bad headache.
"What do you think, Bailey?" Casey asked turning towards me.
"Wait what?" I said shaking my head, "I'm sorry I have a headache again," I said running my hands through my hair.
"Weren't you just sick last week?" Casey asked giving me a concerned look.
"Yeah I guess it didn't completely go away," I said sitting up slowly, "I think I'm gonna head home early guys," I said with a soft frown. They both nodded understandingly.
"Do you need a ride back home, Casey?" I asked standing up and grabbing my things.
"No i'll have my mom pick me up later," she said with a soft smile.
We exchanged our goodbyes and I made my way out to the car. I felt bad leaving, but I felt terrible. I longed for my bed. I just wanted to lay down in silence. It also didn't help that Luke wasn't here to make me feel any better.
I pulled into my driveway, noticing an array of cars parked in front of my house. I walked into the house hearing noises coming from my backyard. I opened my bedroom door, setting my keys and sunglasses down before walking out to my backyard. When I got back outside, I saw my brother, sister and a few of my uncles talking with my dad.
"Hey loser," my brother David said walking over to me and shoving my shoulder.
"Hey," I said with a faint smile as my sister walked over. I wasn't in the mood to be chatty.
"Hi kid," she said. I gave her a small wave.
"Dad said you have a boyfriend," she gave me a smirk making me laugh.
"You're not allowed to date until you're 30," my brother said disapprovingly.
"Shut up," I said rolling my eyes at him.
"When do we get to meet him?" my sister Patricia asked.
"He's out of town for a hockey tournament, so hopefully next weekend," I said with a smile. I couldn't wait for Luke to be back. They both told me that I would have to call and let them know when they could make sure he passed their test. I nodded and excused myself, making my way back into the house. I walked into the kitchen to grab myself a glass of water before getting some advil and heading back into my room.
I changed into sweatpants and crawled into bed before pulling out my laptop and deciding to just watch netflix since my headache was too painful to do anything else.
I was about to drift off into sleep when I heard my phone ring.
I unlocked it, seeing I had a text from Luke.
*Over halfway there, this car ride is long and boring :-(* I smiled.
*I'm sorry :(*
*What are you doing?*
*Watching a movie on netflix, I have a headache*
*Oh no :-(*
*yeah :( also my brother and sister are here. They want to meet you next weekend.*
*Okay!*
*Be on your best behavior, Hemmings. you need to pass their test to continue dating me ;)*
*I'll pass easily* I could already see the smirk on his face.
We texted back and forth until Luke got to Boston, he told me he had to go to practice but would text me afterwards.
I made my way downstairs, deciding to just make myself a sandwich because I was too lazy to make anything else for dinner.
"Are you okay?" my dad asked walking into the kitchen with my brother and sister.
"Yeah I just feel really bad again," I said turning to them. My dad told me to take some medicine, and my cold should be going away soon since I had it for almost a week.
"Okay, well tomorrow we're gonna go to family lunch," my sister said.
We rarely were all together, so my sister tried to make us at least go out to eat together every now and then. I nodded and then told them both goodbye before making my way into my room. Hopefully I would feel better soon.
