Chapter 12

Once I got inside, I said goodnight to my dad and made my way to my room. I changed into sweatpants and a tank top, and then walked past my mirror, catching myself with a smile still on my face. I sat down on my bed still giddy, but remembered I promised to text Casey.

*I'm home! :)*

Immediately she called me.

"How was it?" she asked eagerly, before I even had a chance to say hello.

"Great," I said laying down with a smile.

"Okay how am I suppose to get anything from great," she said, her voice becoming frustrated.

"Well he picked me up, and of course he was about ten minutes late," I giggled, "when we got there the hostess called us Mr. and Mrs. Hemmings," I said laughing and shaking my head.

"You've got to be kidding," Casey said in complete shock.

"No, I swear I look 12 I can't believe they thought we were married," I said laughing, "whatever anyways, we talked casually, you know about school, and food, the normal small talk," I said.

"Keep going," Casey said pushing me to go on.

I shook my head but followed her command, "well the food was amazing, and the restaurant was fancy. It wasn't over the top fancy but it was still really nice. He dropped me off, and I forgot my leftovers in the car so he had to bring them to me, and then hugged me and left," I said quickly as usual.

"That's it?" Casey asked.

"Yes Case, it was our first date. Did you expect us to make out?" I said rolling my eyes at her.

"No but I don't know."

"Please tell me you and Ashton did something much more exciting on your first date," I said emphasizing the first.

"Alright touche," Casey said defeated.

"I'm also the most awkward person so I wouldn't expect anything else," I said making another point, "anyways, how are you and Ashton?" I asked her.

I listened to Casey talk about how her and Ashton were well, and she liked being his girlfriend; she talked about them for almost an hour.

I could barely keep my eyes open so I told Casey I would talk to her the next morning and I hung up. As tired as I was, I could barely sleep from such adrenaline. It's not even like Luke and I did anything special. It was your typical first date with two awkward kids, but it still made me smile. I had never been on a proper date, or have even been asked out so I felt really happy.

The last thing I remember thinking about was dinner before I fell asleep.

It's been a few days, and I've watched a bunch of chick flicks on Netflix. I've also been over analyzing dinner with Luke. Did he take one hand off the steering wheel and put it near the middle as a sign? Did he give me any signs? Was he trying to flirt with me at all? I tore myself apart with these questions because quite frankly, I was blind to flirting. Anyone could obviously flirt around me and I still wouldn't notice. There's no way I would ever be able to recognize a guy flirting with me; the only thing he could do is tell me straight up that he liked me. I hoped Luke didn't try something, and feel rejected when I didn't bother to notice or flirt back. That's the other thing, I couldn't flirt either. I would probably fumble my words or make myself look dumb. Flirting was just not my strong suit.

I shut my laptop, and grabbed my phone.

*Hey :)* I sent to Luke. I couldn't always wait around for him to text me first but I was bad at holding conversations.

I scrolled through my twitter timeline waiting for a text back.

*Hey Bailey :-)* With one small text, I already had a smile on my face.

*What's up?*

*To be honest, nothing really. What are your plans for today?*

*Nothing haha I don't have that thing called a life* I sent after contemplating for a second or not if it made me look like a loser, but I sent it anyways. He had taken me on a date, he must know i'm somewhat lame already, right?

*Would you want to come hang out at my house?* I immediately felt the giddiness take over again.

*Yeah that would be cool :)*

*Awesome :-)*

I pulled on my shoes, and looked in the mirror making sure I looked alright. I then immediately rushed to find my dad.

"Dad!" I yelled walking quickly into the living room.

"Yeah?" he asked giving me a confused look.

"Can I take the car?" I asked with pleading eyes.

"Sure, where are you going?" he said reaching into his pockets to hand me the keys.

"Luke's house for a few hours, is that okay?" I asked still with pleading eyes. As a father it must not be so great to hear your daughter ask to go hang out at a boys house but yet again, he knew Luke's mom so that had to make it slightly more comfortable for him.

"Yeah that's fine. Be home no later than 11 and I trust you, Bailey. Don't do anything you would regret," he said sternly handing me the keys and giving me a serious face.

"Don't worry dad, I'm just gonna go smoke some weed," I said walking out of the house. I knew he probably didn't appreciate my sarcasm but I still laughed at myself while getting into the car.

Once I put on my seatbelt I pulled out my phone and told Luke I was on my way before placing my phone in the cup holder and driving off.

When I got to Luke's house, his mom was outside getting the mail.

"Hey Bailey," she said pulling me into a hug.

"Hi, is Luke around?" I asked.

"Yeah, he told me you were on your way over. Go on in, just up the stairs to your left," she said with a smile.

I walked in, slowly taking the stairs. I could hear music from Luke's room. The door was halfway open but I didn't immediately knock. I peaked in seeing Luke turned so that his back was slightly towards me. I watched him strum his guitar and softly sing Lego House by Ed Sheeran. A smile pulled at my lips. I then lightly knocked on Luke's door.

"Hey," I said with a smile slowly walking in, looking around.

Luke had just plain white walls, but they had plenty of band posters on them. He had a queen sized bed, with blue sheets and a small comforter, a desk in the corner with papers sprawled around, a laundry basket in the other corner with clothes almost filling it to the top , and his closet door was slightly ajar with a snapback hanging off the knob. I looked up, noticing a shelf with a lot of hockey trophies on it.

"Hey," he said smiling back. He got out of his office chair from his desk, and sat on his bed.

"You can sit if you want," Luke said motioning to the chair.

I walked over and sat down.

"I didn't hear much, but you sounded great playing," I said after debating in my head if I should tell Luke or not I heard him.

"Thanks," he said with a soft smile.

"When are you gonna perform again?" I asked looking around his room, remembering he told me it made him happy to be on stage.

"I don't know yet, I've been busy with hockey and I haven't really looked at any places that seem to need performers," he said playing with the chain he was wearing and I nodded in response.

"Do you want to go outside?" Luke said looking out the window. I nodded again, and got up to follow him through his house. We went out on his top deck, which was lit up with lights wrapped around the railings. Luke went over and switched them on, seeing as the sun would be setting soon.

Not too long after, Liz came to join us.

"Hey guys, I don't mean to bother you," she said innocently. I laughed and told her not to worry.

I liked Luke and his mom's relationship because most teenagers would be pushing their parents away, but not Luke. He seemed to enjoy having his mom around, a real mama's boy.

"What do you want for dinner, Luke? I was thinking some type of take out," she said

"Anything mom," he said sweetly.

"Bailey you're welcome to stay. Does picking up chinese seem alright?" she said looking back and forth between the both of us. I just nodded because I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay for their family dinner. I didn't want to intrude, and I had never really sat down to eat with a family before. Since it was just my dad and I, we usually ate at different times and different locations.

"Yeah, are you busy? Do you need me to go get it?" Luke asked sweetly.

"That would be great sweetie," his mom said appreciatively with a smile, "i'll call it in now, and you guys can go get it. I'll get a bunch of different things for us all to split," she said walking inside.

"Do you mind coming for the ride?" Luke asked standing up from his seat and playing with his lip ring like he did often.

"Not at all."

We walked out to Luke's car, getting in and followed the routine we did every time. I looked at the scenery we passed as we drove. It was a nice evening, warm but had a slight breeze. I grabbed my sunglasses that I had clipped on my t-shirt and push them on my head, using them to hold my hair back as I rolled my window down. Five minutes into our drive, Luke reached over and turned the radio volume down, looking at me.

"Are you going to stay for dinner?" He asked licking his lips.

I hesitated, "I don't think so," I said pulling my gaze away from him, suddenly feeling shy and guilty.

"Why not?" he asked with sad eyes and a small pout before looking back at the road.

"I don't want to intrude," I said honestly not being able to say anything else.

"You won't, please?" Luke pleaded which took me by surprise. I never would have guessed Luke would have wanted me to stay.

"Do you want me to?" I said resting my hand on the middle console of the car, looking over at him.

"Yeah," he said nodding his head. My cheeks began to turn pink as I could feel the heat radiating off of them.

Luke took one hand off the steering wheel and placed it on top of mine, rubbing the top of my hand with his thumb for just a quick second. His hand was much bigger than mine; it covered all of it. I looked up at him and smiled, receiving a smile back before he put his hand back onto the steering wheel and pulled into the parking lot restaurant. The butterflies were still in my stomach as I got out of the car and walked towards the restaurant.
