Chapter 3

"Well. That was definitely different." Chance says as he and Tim share a look.

Tim smiles and hangs his head.

"Wow, look at that. He does smile." Chance comments. "A very pretty smile at that."

Tim shakes his head quickly. Taking Chance by the arm, he continues to lead him down the hall.

He leads him up to a door. Pointing at the number on the door and then to himself. The room number was 111.

"Room 111? That should be easy to remember." Chance says with a smile and a playful wink. "Do you share the room with anyone?'

Tim shakes his head 'no' as he pushes the door open.

"Wowww." Chance says as he walks in.

Pictures, that Tim had taken, hung all over the walls. Photo albums were stacked on his dresser.

"Saying that you like photography is an understatement." Chance chuckles as he walks up to the wall to look at some of the pictures.

There were pictures of sunsets, sunrises, rainbows, storm clouds, animals of the garden such as squirrels, rabbits and birds. Pictures of some of the patients such as Adam and Austin and a few more that Chance has not had the chance to meet yet. There were pictures of Tina, a couple of very pretty nurses, one blond and one brunette, and a guy with a big smile giving Tim a thumbs up.

"Tim, these are amazing. You definitely have an eye for catching the right shot." Chance says, still observing the pictures. "Like this one."

He points to a picture of a sunset that Tim had taken. The colors were reflecting off of the small fish pond in the garden.

"That is absolutely beautiful the way the colors are reflecting off the water." Chance says. "I can't believe these were taken by that instant Polaroid. They're so crisp and clear."

Chance suddenly got the feeling that he was being watched. Or was it more of a 'being checked out' feeling.

He turns his head toward Tim to see him quickly shift his eyes to the photographs on the wall.

"If you can take pictures like this with an instant camera, I can only imagine what you could take with a digital camera." Chance smiles at Tim's shrug.

Chance took a minute to check out the room. The room was quite larger than he expected. A single bed lined one of the walls with a nightstand beside it. A full size dresser, a good-sized closet and a small bathroom. A small desk with chair and a flat screen t.v. completed the room.

Tina definitely wanted the patients to feel like they were at home and not a hospital. There was nothing about the room that said 'hospital'.

"This is really nice, Tim." Chance smiles.

"Oh, hey." A guys says as he looks into the room. "I saw the door open and I thought someone might have wondered in Tim's room."

"No, Tim was showing me some of his photography." Chance smiles. He recognizes it to be the guy giving the thumbs-up in Tim's picture. "I'm Chance."

"Nate." Nate smiles shaking Chance's hand. "You're the new guy, right?"

"Yeah, well, I haven't exactly started yet. Tina's going to give me time to get moved in first before I start." Chance replies.

"Oh, so you're going to be living upstairs?" Nate smiles.

"Yeah. Those are some really nice apartments." Chance says.

"Yeah, they are. You'll love it. Well, if you need any help just holler." Nate smiles.

"Sure thing." Chance nods.

"See ya." Nate smiles and waves bye to Tim.

Tim pulls a notepad out of his pocket and scribbles something down. He tugs lightly on Chance's sleeve and hands him the note.

"Time for lunch."

"Well, you can communicate." Chance smiles. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Tim writes another note and hands it to Chance.

"You didn't ask."

"You got me there." Chance laughs. "Care if I have lunch with you?"

Tim motions him to follow, closing his door behind them as they walk out into the hallway. To Chance every hallway looked the same, every stairwell looked the same. How could these patients not get lost?

"I'm going to need a map to get around in this place." Chance chuckles. "I don't even know how to get back to my apartment."

Tim writes a quick note as he's walking and hands it over to Chance.

"I'll show you."

"Awesome, thanks." Chance says as they walk up to some double doors that were standing open.

The cafeteria was already half full with patients and staff having lunch. The room was very large and resembled a school lunch room. (pictured below) And it was surprisingly clean.

Chance follows Tim to the service line. Picking up a tray and getting in line behind Tina.

"Hey, guys." Tina smiles. "Is Tim being your tour guide, Chance?"

"Yeah, you might say that." Chance chuckles. "I'd already been lost without him."

"I didn't think I'd ever learn my way around." A pretty brunette, that was in front of Tina in line, says. "By the way, I'm Olena."

"Chance." Chance smiles and nods.

"What can I get for my favorite people today?" A heavy set guy with a full beard (that was neatly tucked inside a beard net) and glasses says with a very friendly smile.

"I bet you say that to all the ones that comes to eat." Olena giggles as she begins to point out what she wanted.

Chance glances at the man's name tag. Rob. So this was the Rob that Adam had mentioned. Slowly but surely he was putting names to faces.

"Well, don't want to play favoritism but secretly , y'all are my favorites." Rob laughs. "What can I get for you, Timothy?"

Tim begins pointing to what he wanted. He takes his plate and sets it on his tray then follows Tina down the line to get something to drink.

"So, Tim. What do you think of our new employee?" Tina whispers.

Tim hangs his head as his cheeks redden.

"That's what I thought." She giggles as she lightly bumps him with her elbow. "He is cute."

Tim bites his bottom lip and nods slightly.

Chance takes a minute to introduce himself to Rob and his wife Kelsey before following Tim over to a table.

A man with long dark curly hair and a beard wearing a beanie sat at the table. Tears rolls down his cheeks as he mindlessly played with his food.

Tim sits down next to the man and gently taps him on the arm as if to asks him what was wrong.

"Someone killed Andrea, Timmy." The man sobs.

"Who's Andrea?" Chance whispers to Tim.

Tim pulls out his notepad and begins to write.

"Hello again." Austin smiles as he sits down with two trays. The tray he sat at an vacant stool only had an empty plate sitting on it.

"Hi, Austin." Chance smiles but receives a quick elbow to the side from Tim as he continues to write. "And Virgil." He adds.

"Now, Mr. Rob knows how much you love mashed potatoes so he gave you an extra helping. So eat up." Austin says to the vacant chair.

Tim slips Chance the note and begins to eat.

"The guy beside me is Avi. He believes everything on t.v. is real. Especially 'Days of Our Lives'. He also believes 'Friends' live in the same apartment building as 'Seinfeld' and 'Big Bang Theory'."
