Chapter 18
"We need to talk." Tina says as Chance opens his door. She steps past him and walks into his apartment.
"Uh, sure. Want you come in?" He chuckles as he closes the door.
"Did you hurt him? Did you force yourself on him? If you did, Chance, so help me." The much shorter lady turns and puts her hands on her hips.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Calm down." Chance says as he lays his hands on her shoulders. "What are you referring to?"
"Oh? You don't know? You don't think I noticed that he was in pain when he started to get up from the bed?" Tina asks.
"Tina, I never forced myself on Tim. Honestly." Chance says.
"Then why was he hurting?" Tina asks.
"This is a little awkward to talk about to you." Chance smiles shyly as he adjusts his cap but continues when she only glared at him. "It's, uh, it's been a while since Tim has been with anyone in, uh, that way."
"So you DID have sex." Tina states.
"Tinaaa." Chance whines as he sits down on the couch. "Tim and I care very much for each other."
She sighs and hangs her head as she sits down beside the bearded man.
"I know and I'm sorry for accusing you of forcing yourself him." Tina says. "I'm just...."
"Over-protective?" Chance smiles.
"Maybe just a little." Tina smiles.
"A little? Hell, I thought you were going to hang me from the rafters." Chance laughs.
"You know, I heard him speak earlier when he thought I was going to punish him. But I don't think he knew I heard him." Tina says softly. "And then when he grabbed you, Nate and I saw him whisper something to you."
Chance stays quiet as he stares at the floor.
"It's okay, you know. At least I know that he's found someone that he can trust enough to confide in." Tina smiles.
"He trusts you too, Tina. It's just that he's afraid." Chance says quietly.
"Afraid of what?" Tina asks.
"That he'll be released and he has nowhere else to go." Chance says.
"Chance, he's not here because he doesn't talk. He's here because he does have a few mental issues. They may not be extreme like seeing imaginary friends but he does have them. You can see that." Tina says.
"Yeah, I know." Chance nods just as someone knocks on the door. "That's Nate. I've misplaced my phone charger and he has an extra one until I find mine.
He goes to open the door. But instead of Nate, it's Tim holding his camera in his hand with an excited smile on his face.
"I wanna show you some ..." Tim says before Chance kisses him quickly to shut him up.
"Tina is here." Chance whispers.
Tim's eyes widen in horror as he looks past Chance and sees Tina sitting on the couch. She smiles and waves at him.
His eyes fill with tears as he hangs his head, letting go of a quiet sob. He's screwed up and he knows it. Not only was he not suppose to come upstairs while she was here but she heard him talk. She will surely release him from the hospital.
"Honey, it's alright." Chance says as he pulls a weeping Tim into his arms.
"No, I have nowhere to go." Tim whispers as he holds tightly to his lover.
"Just listen to what she has to say, okay?" Chance says as he rubs Tim on the back.
"Timmy? Sweetie, come here." Tina says softly as she pats the seat beside her on the couch.
Tim walks slowly over to the couch and sits down. He hangs his head as he wipes the tears from his eyes.
"I've always known that you could talk. Why you don't, I don't know." She continues to speak in a soft soothing voice. "As a matter of fact, I heard you speak earlier. You have a beautiful low voice. Honey, I'm not going to release you from this hospital just because you can talk." Tina takes him by the hand.
He turns his eyes toward her and she smiles sweetly at him.
"If you don't what anyone to know that you talk that is totally up to you but don't be afraid to talk around me or anyone else. Sweetheart, I love you and I'm not going to kick you to the streets just because you talk. This is your home." Tina says with a smile.
Tim smiles through his tears as he grabs Tina into a hug.
"Thank you." He whispers.
"Now see? That wasn't hard was it?" She says as she brushes back his hair.
"Am I going to be punished for coming up here? I thought you had left." Tim asks in a quiet voice.
"No, you're not gonna get punished because actually, I'm off work." Tina says shaking her head.
"Now, what were you going to show me that you were so excited about?" Chance asks as he sits down on the other side of Tim.
Without saying a word, Tim hands the camera to Chance.
Chance shakes his head and hands the camera back to him.
"No, you tell me." Chance says.
Tim glances around at Tina as if he was still afraid to talk. She smiles and winks at him to let him know it was okay.
"I...I took some pictures of the sunset. It was so beautiful." Tim says, looking down at his camera.
"Well, are you gonna show us?" Tina giggles. "You know, I can get Sami to print those pictures off for you."
"That would be nice." Tim says with a nod.
"Do you remember how I showed you how to view the pictures?" Chance asks as Tim still held onto the camera.
"No." Tim answers quietly and shakes his head.
"This is all you have to do." Chance says as he shows Tim once again how to view the pictures that he had taken.
He begin scrolling through the pictures as Chance and Tina looks over his shoulders.
"Oh, my God." Tina breathes as he comes across a photo of the sunset over the garden. It was absolutely beautiful. The sky looks as if it was on fire with bright colors of orange and yellow. "Let me see that."
She takes the camera to get a closer look.
"This photo would look beautiful hanging in the hallway." Tina says with a huge smile.
"Really? You would hang one of my pictures in the hall?" Tim asks with a slight smile.
"Of course. I can have it blown up and framed. It would be perfect." Tina says. "But of course, I would want you to sign it. Not to mention that I could also use some new pictures for my office."
"Okay. I can do that." Tim says with a huge smile. "What kind of pictures do you want for your office?"
"Well, I love your photographs of nature. But I'd like a couple of pictures of my boys as well." Tina smiles.
"Your boys?" Chance chuckles. He knew exactly who she was talking about.
"Umhmm. I'd like two pictures of Avi, Adam, Austin and Timmy. One serious and then one goofing around." Tina giggles. "You may have to take the picture for them, Chance."
"I'd love to." Chance says as someone, once again, knocks on the door. This time it was Nate bringing Chance a phone charger.
"Am I interrupting something? Is everything alright?" Nate says as he sees Tina, who he thought had left, sitting on the couch with Tim. Did Tim get caught? Was he in trouble?
"No, you're not interrupting anything. And yes, everything is fine. He's not in trouble." Chance smiles. He could tell by the worried look on Nate's face that he thought Tim was in for a punishment.
Tim looks around at Tina as he pulls his notebook and pen from his pocket. She smiles and winks at him. He wasn't quite ready to talk to the others just yet.
'Tina wants some of my pictures to decorate her office.' He writes and hands the notebook to Nate with a huge smile.
