The Story Of Jada

Taken on my Samsung Galaxy S4...

I've told you all that Jada had a story...well here it goes.

October 19, 2013, Jada was born. She came from a breeder. My grandmother knew the lady and had already called dibs on one of them. She picked Jada, the one of the two females. The rest were male, four males I believe (don't quote me on that).

However, Jada was supposed to die. Sometimes, when someone else besides the mother makes contact with her puppies, the mother will kill them. In their minds, the puppies have essentially been "tainted."

Even if this was happening, the breeder refused to sell the puppies so soon. She was hoping the mother would stop after the puppies were left alone. Besides, in this stage, puppies need their mother.

The mother didn't stop however. By the end, there were only two males and one female left- and the mom was already picking on one of the boys, but the breeder made sure she didn't touch him.

Desperate times called for desperate measures. Those puppies needed to be sold immediately or they would die. Luckily, my grandmother wanted the last female.

The breeder sold her immediately. They put her in a ventilated shoebox and kept her warm with my uncle's sock. She was still that small.

Now my grandmother forgot one thing: she worked. She wasn't able to care for the dog while at work, and she couldn't use her vacation days at the time. Unfortunately, she had one other option. She called my mom and asked if she could do it.

It was a smart move, especially since my mom knew what to do. When she was younger, she had a dog who she had a beautiful bond with. So beautiful, the dog, Jessibel (I think that's how you spell it), allowed my mom to help her deliver the babies.

My mom refused at first, because-

1. We had Maxx, our first dog.
2. My mom's schedule was already busy- mostly having to do with my brother and I.
3. My dad couldn't either, he worked the same hours my grandmother did, and sometimes more.

After talking it over a bit, my mom agreed to care for her for two weeks, which was when my grandmother was able to take off again.

But there was one big catch that my mom addressed to my grandmother. The chances of (the now named) Jada surviving without her mother's care, was very unlikely. So if something were to happen to Jada in the time she was in our household, we couldn't be to blame. My grandmother understood the precautions and agreed to be the one to buy the food and other necessities, for as long as my mom tend to her at our home.

Despite these risks, Jada was adorable. She was so tiny, we joked often that she may have been a rat 😂.

We've grown to love her, as she truly was a special chihuahua. We watched her begin to walk, run, bark, and we endured her nightly crying and barking.

In this time, we discovered soon after she started barking that she wasn't the typical chihuahua that barks at almost everything. In fact, she was lovable to about everyone she met! But she'd go nuts whenever she saw my mom and I. My dad she'd get happy for too, once in a while she'd go crazy. My brother was a lot more rare, but that was because she knew my brother was the wild child of the house, and she would literally try to stay away from him sometimes.

Serves him right! 😂

Jada was so lovable, that our dog Maxx even seemed to befriend her in seconds.

Maxx must've had a thing for babies, because he was always protective with my brother when he was a baby and barked at unknown intruders more aggressively after he was born.

When he met Jada, Jada was scared of Maxx at first, him being a much bigger and older dog. Maxx was a bit scared too, as he wasn't used to seeing smaller dogs, and he didn't want to hurt her. A few times Jada tried to run away, but we would pick her up and put her next to Maxx. Eventually, Maxx laxed, but Jada was nervously sniffing him and flinching at every small movement Maxx did. To make sure Maxx didn't do anything, my dad had him on a short leash so he can pull him away quickly.

Instead, Maxx showed the greatest sign of affection for Jada. He lied down next to her, purposely exposing his abdomen to her. You could tell it was on purpose, because Maxx never did this and it looked funny how he sorta froze in this position like he was waiting for something. Then, Jada drew in close, and snuggled right beside him. Even though Maxx almost squished her when he tried to get up (he stopped himself before she did get hurt), they seemed to get along well. Everyone got along with Jada.

The time eventually came for her to leave. Somehow, she still knew who my grandmother was when she came and was willing to go back with her, no barking whatsoever, even after she realized she wasn't in our household anymore.

From time to time, Mom and I would visit just to see Jada, and sure enough, Jada recognized both of us. She knew me as the older cousin who'd be there for her when it mattered, whether it was to keep her away from my reckless brother or to feed her and put her to sleep when my mother couldn't, I was there.

Nevertheless, the credit goes to my mom, her aunt, for doing most of the work. The feeding, the sanitation, the nurturing, all Mom!

At first, whenever Mom and I would visit, Jada would get so excited, she'd pee herself! That went for all of us actually! She peed herself when she saw me, Mom, Dad, and my brother, AND my sister, who visited about as much as my grandmother did.

Today, she still befriends everyone that walks through my grandmother's door, she pees herself less, and only barks until she sees someone waking through the door, stranger or not.

She is way more accustomed to my grandmother's care and probably would dislike my mom's customs (in other words, Jada's too spoiled now).

Even so, Jada is still the beautiful, "Miracle From The Shoebox" as I like to call her. And it's hard to believe that given such conditions, she grew up to be the healthy dog you see below:

(Also taken on the Samsung Galaxy S4...and yes, before I took this picture, she did pee herself when we walked into the house 😂).
