Chapter 1: The Mysterious Defendant
I love the Phoenix Wright franchise and me and my friends came up with an idea for a game which is the plot you see here. So I decided what the heck since I haven't actually seen and Phoenix Wright fanfic with a child reader. And before you say it's too dark, please go play Turnabout for Tomorrow. I hope you guys enjoy the story!
Oh, and so it's easier, in order to tell which lawyer will take the lead, Turnabout will be the title for Phoenix, Apollo, and Athena, while Trail By will be for the reader
I own nothing but the plot.
Chapter 1: Turnabout for Innocence
The winter wind violently crashed against a darken mansion on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The manor was large and held a regal aura, as it looked like it had been made in Victorian London, yet at the moment, with not even the feint glow of a candle, it appeared ominous against the dark skies. At the moment, if one were to peer into a stain glass window into the library behind, they would understand why it felt as if demons from hell were descending upon the world.
In front of the the unused fireplace, several shelves had been knocked over and books scattered across the floor, stained with bright red liquid. A man looking to be in his 60's with graying blonde hair was curled in the fetal position, his eyes empty and his mouth agape in horror as a steel spear had pierced his side. A figure cloaked in shadows chuckled at their handiwork.
"Now all I've got to do is frame the brat upstairs and this entire place is mine!"
From there he removed the spear and crept upstairs to where a child was sleeping in order to hide his crime, unaware this child would bring about his demise.

District Court
Defendant Lobby No. 2
Phoenix realigned his suit multiple times as he quickly skimmed through the court files. Only 3 hour he had been called anonymously to defend an unnamed client who had been abandoned by her previous attorney. Phoenix being the person he was, and since case were few in numbers over the last few weeks (as ever he should say) took the case and gathered up Athena and Apollo in order to assist. Luckily, since they had brought in on such short notice, all 3 members of the Wright's Anything Agency were allowed on the stand, provided they would behave themselves.
Apollo and Athena were currently doing Apollo's "Cords of Steel" regiment in order to mentally prepare for the trial.
"IM APOLLO JUSTICE AND IM FINE!!!"
"IM ATHENA CYKES AND IM FINE!!"
"IM PHOENIX WRIGHT AND YOU TWO ARE GIVING ME A HEADACHE!"
The two quiet down at the sound of their boss's yelling before joining him on the chair to review the evidence.
"Sorry boss, we just need something to keep us pumped!" Athena assured.
"Yeah, I mean, we're at a real disadvantage here. We don't even know who our client is!"
"I know Apollo,"
"Why did you even decide to take this case?"
Phoenix was silent for a moment. Why had he taken the case? He remember picking up the phone earlier in the morning and hearing the voice asking him to defend their client. It had been a woman's, and through phone he could hear her desperation.
"I have no one else to turn to! My friend is going to be convicted for a murder she did not commit and her attorney has abandoned her! I've heard about you and your drive to believe in your clients till the end, so please Mr Wright! Come to the courthouse and save an innocent person!"
Whoever this person was obviously cared about the client, and Phoenix could not bring himself to deny this desperate cry for justice.
"I couldn't stand by and let a person go unrepresented," Athena took the file from him and began skimming through it.
"So the victim was 65 year old Xavier Avalon. He was murder in his mansion library and the cause death was stabbing," Apollo added in.
"According to what we have our client was arrested since she was in the mansion, her fingerprints were on the weapon. That's not good," Phoenix sighed.
"Right, this is going to be tricky, hopefully we might be able to stall out and head to the scene of the crime later for more details," the bailiff entered the room.
"Defense, the trail is about to commence!"
Phoenix gathered up the files and started for the courtroom.
"Alright! Let's do our best!"

District Court
Courtroom No. 2
The courtroom was full of murmuring and whispers as Phoenix, Apollo, and Athena all took the stand together. Across from them was the ever so pleasant prosecutor, Winston Payne. The banging of the immortal judge finally silenced the room.
"Court is now in session for the trial of (Y/N) Avalon," Phoenix cleared his voice.
"The defense is ready your honor," 'So, the victim and the defendant are related,' Phoenix thought to himself.
"The prosecution is ready your honor," Payne replied in his ear grating voice. The judge nodded.
"I see the defense is quite large today. Is there any reason for that?" Payne answered in his ever arrogant tone.
"The defendant's previous attorney apparently was scared off once he realized who his opponent would be," Athena banged her palms against the wood.
"Why that egotistical jerk!"
"Egotistical jerk!" Widget mimicked. The judge was non to pleased.
"Ms. Cykes! Please keep that metal companion of your's quiet!" She sweat dropped.
"Yes your honor,"
"Very well, Mr. Payne, your opening statement, please," once again, the arrogance began.
"Well isn't this a treat! Defeating all 3 bluffing monkeys!" Phoenix saw Apollo fisting his hand, looking ready to kill with a glare.
"The incident occurred 3 days ago in the victim's manor. The victim himself was Xavier Avalon, a well known defense attorney," the judge nodded.
"I myself had seen Mr. Avalon in court many a times. He was a very intelligent man and a stickler for the truth. Not unlike you Mr. Wright and your companions,"
"Did the judge just compliment us?"
"Mr. Avalon was found the next morning by a house keeper who quickly reported the crime to the police. Here is a picture taken there," Apollo check the photo in the records ((apparently in the anime, evidence is presented through a screen, which makes sense actually)) and saw the the victim in the fetal position with a spear penetrating his gut.
"Such a tragedy," The judge commented, making all 3 attorneys wonder if he knew the victim on a personal level.
"As you can plainly see, the cause of death was organ damage cause by the spear. When tested, the defendant's fingerprints were found, obviously making her the killer,"
"OBJECTION!" Athena shouted. "There have been plenty of cases where a defendant's fingerprints on the murder weapon were easily explained!"
"While that is true, Ms. Cykes, please refrain until the end of the opening statement,"
"Yes your honor," Payne preformed his annoying habit of tapping his hand to his forehead.
"While that is true, the defendant was the only other person in the house at the time. Not to mention the motive,"
"Motive?" Apollo's curiosity had been peaked.
"The defendant was named a main benefactor in the will. Much of Mr. Avalon fortune was to be distributed to her while the manor and the remaining fortune would be granted to the remaining members of the will," the judge then asked a question.
"What about the rest of the members of the Avalon family?"
"It appears that only two members of the Avalon family are listed: the defendant and the victim's son August Avalon,"
"August huh? Something tells me that that won't be the last we hear of him," Phoenix thought to himself.
"Very well, prosecution, please call your first witness,"
"If it pleases the court, the prosecution would like to call the defendant Ms. (Y/N) Avalon,"
"Does the defense have any objections?" The trio looked to each other before Phoenix shook his head.
"The defense has no objections your honor,"
"Very well, the court calls Ms. (Y/N) Avalon to the witness stand!"
"Alright, let's see our client," Athena whispered to the others.
A minute later, the bailiff placed a box on the witness stand, confusing the attorneys. A second later, a girl step up to the witness stand. She had (H/L) (H/C) hair and bright (E/C) eyes to match. Her hair was braided with some sort of bird feather at the end. She wore a lavender jacket over a plain white dress shirt and black pants to match and on her back was a rather large bag. However, her presence shocked everyone in the courtroom, her attorneys especially.
After all, it was very clear this 'defendant' was a prepubescent.
The trio dropped the jaws in surprise at this revelation. How could a young girl like this be accused for such a violent crime, against her own family no less!? The judge didn't seem to notice the girl's age at first.
"Witness please state your name an-HUH?!"
There it was. (Y/N) didn't seem to mind.
"My name is (Y/N) Avalon. I'm-,"
"Hold on a minute! Am I to understand this small child is the defendant!?" He looked to the the defense team. Apollo raised his hands.
"Don't look at us your honor! This is the first time we've met our client!"
"Young lady! How old are you exactly!?" Her face was completely neutral.
"I'm 13 your honor," Payne shook his head.
"Lying on the stand is a horrible habit Ms. Avalon. My profile clearly states you are 12 years of age," she shot him an annoyed look.
"Actually, Mr. Payne," her voice was laced with venom at his name, "I just turned 13 this morning, which you should be aware of," ((this is my birthday so yeah)) Payne winced at this. The judge looked even more surprised.
"Today is your birthday young lady?" She nodded.
"In a way yes,"
"Then happy birthday. It's a shame you must-,"
"Be here in order to preserve my future? I am also annoyed by this,"
Phoenix was shocked to his very core at the child's cold comebacks. This didn't look like someone who had lost a love one. Then he saw Athena, who had a look of pity in her eyes.
"She putting on a brave face. I can tell she's really torn up inside about all this," Apollo nodded.
"She's just a kid! Of course she would be! So why is she putting on this cold exterior?"
"I don't know Apollo, but I intend to find out," The judge decided to press on gently.
"Young lady, please explain your relation to the victim. By your last name, I assume you are relatives?"
"Not by blood sir. I'm Xavier's adopted daughter,"
"Adopted?" Phoenix asked.
"Yes, he found me on his doorstep 13 years ago to this day, hence why I said it was my birthday in a way. He took me in and raised me as his daughter," the judge nodded.
"I see. Now court would like for you to give your testimony of the night of the murder," she looked as if she understood.
Witness Testimony: Where I was
"From what the police told me, my father died around 1 in the morning. I was in bed and asleep by 11. You can ask anyone on our staff to confirm. I woke up the next morning and was shocked to find my father had been killed the night previous," her stone face broke for a minute as she looked incredibly sad about the events. "Maybe things may have been different if I'd stayed up with him,"
The courtroom was silent for a moment before the judge broke it.
"Is that all?"
"Unfortunately, that's all I can offer," Payne shook his head in a smug way.
"As you can see your honor, this child had more than enough opportunity! The fact that she is not related to the victim by blood leaves plenty of room for hostility between her and the victim. The prosecution rests that the defendant murder the victim for the inheritance and that a swift ruling should be made!" Phoenix glared.
"Calling for a ruling already?! Not on my watch!"
"HOLD IT!"
Phoenix mouth was frozen as someone had beaten him to the punch. That someone to his surprise was the victim herself who looked quite annoyed with the prosecutor.
"I should've guessed that would be your argument. If you couldn't be bothered to look up my birthday, why would you be able to realize that even though I'm a main benefactor of the will, I have least to gain from Xavier Avalon's death. In fact, I have the most to loose!"
From the judge, to the prosecution, to the defense, all jaws were dropped. Apollo gave his traditional look of disbelief.
"Did the defendant just defend herself!?" Phoenix was barely listening as he thought one thing:
Just who was this girl?!
