Chapter Two; Taking Off Into Freedom
I have been running for what felt like hours. After two bus train rides and deciding where the hell I was going I decided on a destination. A destination that would truly set me free. I ran like death was chasing me itself, stumbling on my feet before panting exhaustingly at the front desk of an airport where I had been to before when traveling to competitions world-wide.
"Which plane still has free spots!?" I rambled, my mouth begging for water. The receptionist looked at me worriedly but didn't ask any questions. She typed something in her computer before looking at me straight in the eyes. "I'm sorry mam but the only airplane with free seats at this time of night is the one heading to Japan." she said.
I don't care. "Where is that plane? Please show me!" I asked widely. Sweat trailed down the side of my face and my stomach growled hungry for food. She hesitated to answer. "You would turn that corner, go straight, and then turn right. But the ticket for one person is about $1,00-"
I dropped my bag and zipped it open rummaging through it until I felt the stash of money I packed along with me. I slammed my cash on the desk making the receptionist widen her eyes at the amount. "Keep the change!" I said. She nodded awkwardly before handing me my ticket which I snatched from her and followed her instructions to the flight.
Multiple concerns corrupted my head. Japan? Why of all places Japan? Where am I going to live? How can I, a simple teenager move to a new place and start a new life without an adult? How is that even possible?
Anxiety crept up all around me as I tried to calm myself down. Does she notice that I'm gone yet? Has she checked on me? Did I leave the window open? Oh god...is she going to call me? What do I do if she does? If she finds me will she punish me? Most likely..what am I doing? This is crazy, I cant do this!
"You may proceed." I nodded, my heart beating like the thrumming wings of a cadged bird. I took the first available seat I saw and settled in it, glad they took ahold of my luggage and I could try to ease my mind. A man sat beside me though he was sleeping and currently unavailable. The air was burning my nose slowly, making my eyes burn. I wanted to strangle the boy sitting behind me who repeatedly kicked my seat from behind.
I ignored the aggravating boy and grabbed my phone from my pocket, turning it on and looking through my notification and feeds.
Volleyball star: Winter King and teammates lost game against La-
I grunted and closed that message. Is it really that serious? Honestly, people act like that competition was everything. But...its true that I was frustrated with myself after the game. I mean who wouldn't? If we had won that match we would've won the whole volleyball game including a trophy to go with it. I studied my neighbors with a quick glance and yawned, putting my phone up.
I lazily put my elbow on the airplane seats arm rest and placed my hand in it, slowly drooping my eyes closed and losing consciousness over my body and mind as I drifted off to sleep tiredly but not before hearing the words....
"Our flight is about to take off!"
