Lea's POV (Two weeks of being at the Orphanage)

Two weeks, two weeks since we arrived at the Orphanage, and still nobody wants me to be their adopted child.

We went through two more interviews, the same things happened in both of them, they only wanted Shinya.

This situation has made me more depressed, knowing that I would never get adopted by a loving family as long as the couple or family only wants Shinya.

I have told Shinya to stop telling the people no when they only wanted to adopt him, but him being a stubborn fox mule, it wasn't happening.

Miss Oyan felt bad for me, knowing that I may never get adopted if this was to keep happening every time we had a interview.

Me and Shinya were in our room that we shared with another girl and boy who were brother and sister like 'we' were. We were just talking about random things as we waited for our next interview to come with another couple. This will be the second interview we will be having today and I wasn't that excited about it

"They aren't going to adopt me, again." I dead panned having Shinya send me a look of disapproval at my unenthusiastic state

"Come on Tu Lin, lighten up!" Shinya stated, using my Earth Kingdom name since the girl, Sonya was reading on the top bunk of the bunk bed, minding her own business

"I'm never going to get adopted." I deadpanned having Sonya groan, throwing her pillow at me

"Tu Lin you are going to get adopted one day, it may even be today! You never know it isn't going to be easy as pie!" Sonya told me and I groaned, chucking her pillow back at her only for her to catch it, putting it back behind her and returning to her book. After a few moments of silence, a knock on the door came before it opened to reveal Miss Oyan smiling with a clipboard tucked underneath her arm

"They are ready for you dears!" Miss Oyan stated cheerily. Me and Shinya stood up and followed after her, Shinya's arm around me protectively

"Now you two, this couple actually wants two children, a boy and a girl. So when they came across you two, they were ecstatic to meet you. Now be nice and respectful dears, we don't want to give off a bad first impression now do we?" Miss Oyan asked us as we stopped in front of the door. We both nodded and she opened up the door to reveal the familiar mahogany table with four chairs, two on one side and two on the other with a lit candle in the middle. Sitting in the two chairs was a couple who were holding hands under the table. The man was wearing traditional Earth Kingdom Clothing, his brown hair up in a signature bun for Earth Kingdom men. He had a long narrow nose with light green eyes and tan skin with a beard and mustache, wearing a stern face. My eyes zeroed in at his hands, noticing of the deep callouses within them and rough edges, EarthBender or a craftsman. The woman beside him carried a soft look as her darker green eyes looked at me and Shinya. She had a half down half up look her hair almond color brown with a little more of a fair complexion than the man's. Her nose was also long and narrow but not as long as the mans and had light freckles over her cheeks and nose. She smiled brightly at us

"Go on you two, don't be shy." Miss Oyan knocked me out of my observation. Me and Shinya headed to the table and sat down next to each other, my hands placed neatly on my lap

"Tu Lin, Shinya. This is Mrs. and Mr. Luen." The woman spoke up

"Just call me Nani, no need for formalities." Nani stated and Shinya nodded

"This is my husband, Hans. Don't worry he may look intimidating but he is just a big softy." Nani stated receiving a side glare from Hans having me slightly smile, the corner of my mouth tugging upwards

"I'm Shinya, and this is my little sister Tu Lin." Shinya introduced us politely and Nina nodded

"Now, you're both 9 correct?" We both nod

"Tu Lin has already been through a adoption before, hence why her eyes are gold." Shinya told the lie again as he had done with the other couples before them

"Oh? So she was from the Fire Nation?" Hans asked, now interested as he leaned forward, removing his hand from Nani's to place them in front of him crossed across his chest. Shinya nodded and was about to speak until Hans rudely stopped him

"No son, let the little lady speak for herself." I shyly looked up at him meeting his stern gaze

"I was really little when I was adopted after being abandoned on Earth Kingdom land. My daddy found me and took me in, knowing how to take care of a child because he had my big brother and mommy was there to help him too." I told him in a quiet voice having the woman gush at my 'cuteness'

"Then how is your hair red?" Hans asked me suspiciously

"Fire Nation burnt down our village a few weeks back... A soldier got a hold of me and burnt my hair but Shinya saved me and we ran away looking for daddy and our little brother Teo but we couldn't find them." I stated, clutching onto my dress tightly. The woman's eyes held sympathy within them, but the mans didn't. He didn't believe the lies I was telling him

"Nani, we are going."

"Huh, what do you mean dear-?!" Hans stood up and grabbed her wrist, pulling her up with him

"This girl is Fire Nation we can't have her as a daughter!" I flinched, tears filling my eyes. It's going to happen again

"Hans dear. She was raised as a Earth Kingdom Girl, not a Fire Nation Girl!" Nani tried to defend me

"I don't care! I won't have it! Miss Oyan we will just take the boy-"

"No, I'm sticking with my sister!" Shinya yelled, standing up as I sunk back into my chair. My heart beat raising immensely

"Don't you see boy?! She's Fire Nation her ancestors are held responsible for all of the destruction leaving only Ba Sing Se and Omashu as the last Earth Kingdom Strongholds standing!"

"I don't care because she isn't the one who had done it! I love her no matter what her blood says about her!" Shinya yelled loudly. My anxiety starting to rise as I felt like I couldn't breath.

3rd Person's POV

"Don't you see boy?! She's Fire Nation her ancestors are held responsible for all of the destruction leaving only Ba Sing Se and Omashu as the last Earth Kingdom Strongholds standing!" Hans protested, pointing at Lea in anger as Nani watched, her eyes filled with unshod tears. Shinya growled at the man

"I don't care because she isn't the one who had done it! I love her no matter what her blood says about her!" Shinya yelled loudly, his words holding deeper meaning than just 'sibling love'. Lea tightly closed her eyes shut, trying her best to calm herself down before she broke down in front of them, but the next thing that flew out of Hans' mouth is what struck a cord within her

"Hell she is held responsible! She is probably the reason why your home was burned down in the first place separating, no, killing your family!" A stunned silence spread across the room as those words comprehended in Shinya's mind, unable to believe that this man would go that far in this argument. Miss Oyan and Nani was stunned by Hans' words, unable to stop the gasps from escaping. Besides Shinya, sat Lea who took Hans' words to heart. He made her believe that all of her nation's mistakes and destruction was all her fault, something like this being directed towards a 9 year old with such anger and vulgar will definitely have dire consequences.

Tears streamed down the red headed girl's face as she found the courage to stand up and face the man, her hands clutching at her sides

"I'm. Not. The. One. Responsible. For. This. War. I'm not the one held responsible for anything the Fire Nation has done to the world. I'm not your enemy. I'm a little girl, a child. Not a Fire Nation Soldier" Lea stated before dashing out of the room, brushing passed Miss Oyan before slamming the door behind her. Silence filled the air again, only this time, Lea's words sunk into their minds, giving them a different view of the Fire Nation and it's people.
