Chapter 5
V.
I wasn't making any sense. I couldn't believe that I risked my job just to satisfy myself of getting back at him. There's a chance that Reina-san will most probably tell the manager what I've done. I might get a good scolding or two from my aunt oh but God, it was all worth it. And besides, he deserved it.
As I was walking around the school and sipping on a cold strawberry yogurt drink, I saw Yumi by the ingress of a gym, peeking like a creepy stalker. I got intrigued and started to make my way towards her. And as I went closer, I heard the sound of the familiar ball clashing with the wall and mixed emotions of voices that I know too well... that's when I realized that she was peeking at volleyball practice... boys' volleyball practice to be specific.
"Hey nerd," I snapped intentionally from behind her just to startle her and I succeeded because she flinched like a criminal caught on the act. She turned her head slowly to my direction and that's when she froze completely at the sight of me. "Why are you peeking at the boys' volleyball training?" I asked with a raised eyebrow, my tone like of an interrogator's.
"Mi-Mi-Mikazuki-san!" She stuttered and sweat-dropped, nervous like always. Like that's a new thing for me. "N-No! Um, err, I-I wasn't..."
"Speak properly." I demanded, getting impatient. I swear I could see her glasses getting humidity and her face getting pure red from embarrassment.
"I-I can't find the other gym where girls' volleyball training is kept and I--!"
I smirked. "Like I'd believe that."
"I'm not lying!" She retorted and just when she realized what tone of voice she used, she bowed her head down and quickly muttered an apology.
Actually, I did believed her. She's a first year, just like me. And she looked pretty stupid with her eyes looking at different places but me and body trembling like she was cornered by a predator. She remained silent and maintained her head down in sheer embarrassment.
I sighed. "Where's the foul-mouthed girl?"
She hesitantly lifted her head to look at me. "Saori?"
"Who else?" I asked sarcastically with an eye roll.
"She's -"
"Um..." A blonde haired girl which I assume is the manager of the boys' volleyball club, peeked her head by the door and interjected with our conversation. "Is there a problem in here?" She asked politely as she glanced at the both of us. But when her gaze landed on mine, she flinched and trembled in fear. "I'M SO SORRY FOR THE INTRUSION!" She screamed then came back running inside the gym, in the verge of crying.
I could only stare at the empty space she once occupied then sigh exasperatedly. This school is... full of weird people.
Moments later, a beautiful raven haired girl came out of the door. "Can we help you?"
"Um..." Yumi glanced at me as if she didn't know what to say. I only replied her stare with a glare which made her tense up and avert the gaze.
"Not really." I said nonchalantly then pulled Yumi by the wrist and walked away, basically dragging her.
"H-Hey, where are we going?" I heard Yumi asked as I continued to drag her to wherever I pleased.
"You'll see." I replied sternly.
Why am I being generous and pulled out such a stunt of leading her to the gymnasium she was looking for? Damn, was it the strawberry yogurt?
"Please d-don't drag me, I can--"
"You're a slowpoke, I hate waiting." I cut her off which made her finally shut up. I can assume that she was wearing a pout while we were walking all the way to the gymnasium.
"Sorry, it's so short!"
"Cover! Cover!"
"Nice one-touch!"
"Left!"
As I heard those familiar words I'd used to say my whole life, I unconsciously dropped Yumi's wrist and started feeling a little lightheaded, my mind drifting off to somewhere else.
"Oh..." I heard Yumi say on the background. "It's here."
"YUMI!"
I was panting really heavily as I stare at the other side of the court full of volleyball. I wiped the sweat dripping from my forehead down to my chin as I heard his voice echo through the whole gymnasium.
"Hitting the ball at the peak of your jump is important, Mika-chan," he told me as he tossed another volleyball which I successfully caught. He was staring at me with a knowing smile but his eyes indicated that he was serious about what he's saying. "Try it again."
"For the thirty-seventh time," I murmured under my breath and shook my head in disappointment.
"Go for it, I believe in you."
I snapped out of my trance when I felt a hand grabbed my wrist and dragged me. "Kinomi-chan, let's go~!" I heard Saori told me with a bright smile on her face. "Why are you spacing out? Come on!"
I let her drag me to where she pleased which was inside the gym. I darted my head at different directions and I can't help but feel nostalgic at the volleyballs scattered around the court as if the members have been practicing serves.
"Hey Yumi, where's your club application form?"
"Um, here."
"Yes! Come on, let's go give it to the captain!"
"Captain, huh..." I huffed out a breath then shifted my gaze at the girl whom the members have been calling by that title and it was a short haired girl with a cheerful aura.
"Michimiya-senpai!" Saori called her then handed their application form. Michimiya, as she was called, smiled at them and since I'm out of earshot, I cannot hear them.
Michimiya, as they call her, walked toward me and I watched her do so. "Hello, you're Mikazuki Kinomi-san, right?" She politely asked with a smile. Before I could react, she continued. "You are! I watched your match last year, you know!" She chuckled then put a hand on my shoulder. "You're an official member now!"
"What?" I said, flabbergasted.
"Aren't you also here because you wanted to join the volleyball club?"
"No--"
"Yui, we're finished here!"
"Okay!" Michimiya yelled over her shoulder then looked back at me. She suddenly clapped her hands to divert everyone's attention on her which she succeeded on doing so. "Okay everyone, gather up over here!"
There were at least nine members of the girls' volleyball team and a couple of applicants. The captain must have something to announce to the team or something. She held four club application forms and I kind of seen the disappointment in her eyes when she didn't see my name written on any paper.
First year class-5, Takahashi Yumiko
First year class-3, Takahara Saori
First year class-4, Shimida Miki
First year class-3, Nozomi Kirimi
"Eh~? A three-on-three match?" Nozomi asked with a smirk, her hand resting on her hip. I raised an eyebrow at the tone of her voice because I didn't like the sound of it. I don't know why but she pissed me off for a reason, maybe it's just the fact that she and my mother share the same name.
"Yes, we usually do this every year so that we could see what these players are made of and--"
"I can't wait to spike through your faces." Nozomi laughed out loud and Shimida followed. I suddenly felt a vein popped in my head and my hands curled into tight fists.
"What did you--!"
"Saori." Yumi warned with a shake of her head.
Michimiya chuckled lowly. "You have some... personality issues, Nozomi-san."
"I guess I'm just pretty confident with my skills, right Miki?"
"Yeah, she was the ace in her middle school years." Shimida agreed.
And I'm a famous middle blocker and a captain from a powerhouse middle school.
"Do we really need to do this... thing? I mean, you can already see the results--"
"Yes, we do." I stated which made the team's full attention shift on me. My lips curled up in a sly smirk because she pushed me to my limits.
"What?" Nozomi demanded, frowning at me.
"Michimiya-san," I ignored Nozomi's demand and shifted my gaze on her. "Let me join the three-on-three match on Saturday, just this once."
A sequence of gasps came from the whole team.
"E-EH?"
"Is that even allowed?"
"Who is she anyway?"
Those things that were came from the team but I didn't mind their comments. All I've wanted was the answer of their captain.
She smiled and without hesitation, she said a yes. And then she talked to her teammates about the starting lineups.
"Um, Kinomi-chan, aren't we a little handicapped?" Saori gently nudged me on the arm just to gain my attention and mumbled those words to me.
I raised an eyebrow. "And why is that?"
"They have a third year with them!"
I turned my full attention on them, my lips curling into a smirk as I gave them a piece of his mind. "In volleyball, it doesn't matter if you're a first year or third year. The strong are the strong and the one who drops the ball loses. It's pretty simple, actually."
They just have to see what these girls are made of, right? Let me give them a problem.
Kei.
"OH! MIKAZUKI-SAN IS GOING TO PLAY?" The shrimp exclaimed as Sawamura-san announced the news.
Earlier, the captain of the girls' volleyball club talked to Sawamura-san during training. And she looked pretty excited that she didn't want to spend another second without telling it to him.
"Yeah! And I can really see her potential as a volleyball player. So I was thinking if we could watch this match this Saturday morning." Sawamura-san wondered enthusiastically.
I just watched them blabber as they gather up to talk about the certain girl who sipped on my Strawberries and Cream a few days ago. And that brought a frown on my lips at the memory.
"But I thought that she hated volleyball. Why is she joining the club?" Sugawara-san asked ad it followed by the team's agreement.
"Well, she didn't actually joined the club itself, she just joined the three-on-three match."
"Eh, I see!" Shrimp looked over at the King then at me which earned him an arched eyebrow from me. "Brings back memories, right Kageyama, Tsukishima?"
I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up, Hinata dumbass." The King deadpanned.
"I'D LOVE TO WATCH HER PLAY! SHE'S SOLID AT RECEIVING!" Nishinoya-san screamed, eyes gleaming in excitement.
"Yes, indeed. But she'll be playing as the middle blocker though." Sawamura-san stated.
"DOESN'T MATTER! SHE'S STILL GOOD AT RECEIVING!"
"I don't know if the coach will allow us, though..." Azumane-san muttered which made the teams gazes shift to the coach who was just listening to them attentively.
After a few moments of Ukai-san pondering about the unspoken request, he sighed and agreed. Saying that they shouldn't just watch the match, we should take note and acknowledge the skills and abilities of the players.
And that's when I completely zoned out of the conversation because they've been talking nonsense now. I went to the bench and took a sip of water. Yamaguchi approached me with a smile on his face.
"Tsukki, are you going to watch the match this Saturday?"
"No."
"Hehe, but it's required for the team to watch it though."
I put the bottle aside then narrowed my eyes at him. "What's the use of asking me?"
Yamaguchi scratched the back of his head, chuckling lowly. "Sorry, Tsukki."

Phew, finally finished.
For some odd ass reason, Tsukki's pov got deleted so I had to unpublish this chapter just to rewrite it again. It's a good thing that I have a duplicate of this chapter. >3< I added a few sentences/changed some though lol
