Chapter 3

III.

"Damn teacher, making me do all his work." I mumbled under my breath, an irksome aura surrounded me. I was carrying a stack of books in my arms, my destination marked at the library.

He stated that he had many errands to run and had a hectic schedule and such. It only happened that I passed by him and he called me out to do some work for him.

I raised an eyebrow and asked what benefit would I get for doing shit for him. He stated blandly that I was basically hanging by a thread on English aka the subject that I least like. He exaggerated a bit though, I don't even know why I excel most in Mathematics while the rest are above average. And since he was my English teacher, you know what he did.

What kind of work he made me do for him? Type the test of the second years.

My lips twitched up to a smirk. Not my amused smirks though, more like the usual smirks I give to my mother. I'd have to give that teacher a credit for being clever.

And then my feet automatically came to a halt when I saw a rather interesting view that doubled my annoyance on this certain day. I saw a group of peasants bullying a nerd.

The peasants laughed in unison, like a choir preaching. The nerd didn't even do anything. She just sat on the floor, sobbing like the helpless girl she was with the pile of papers scattered around. And it somehow released a trigger within me when they stepped upon her papers too. It earned some attention from the other students but they seem to be afraid or care less to get involved.

I didn't notice the sigh that escaped my lips as my blank gaze landed on the books on my arms. I scanned them and took one with my free hand, weighing it.

"Not thick enough." I mumbled then took another and I couldn't help but to crack a smile because it happened to be a thesaurus. I estimated it to have a thousand pages or so, I guess this is enough.

Enough to hurt a peasant.

I aimed the book at the bimbo which I assumed the leader of the peasants' squad. And with one quick swing of my hand, the laughter immediately ceased and it was replaced with an annoying ear piercing scream of pain that could crack the windows.

"Ouch." I mumbled with a fake wince, my lips stretching up even more in amusement.

Did I throw the thesaurus on her head a little too hard? Oops.

Her teary eyes darted to me and seriously, if looks could kill I would've been dead by now. But to me, it's the other way around, it made my day to get shot by her glare daggers.

"What the hell is your problem?!" The lousy bimbo screamed as she stomped her way to me, the students instinctively backed away. Wait, is she some kind of queen bee? She doesn't look like one though.

I glanced at the nerd on the floor, her teary eyes looked at me, bewilderment plastered within them. I shook my head at her, as if disappointed. She immediately averted her gaze and focused on recollecting her papers.

My attention was diverted at the bimbo when her filthy hands harshly grabbed me by the collar of my blouse, her expression telling me that she's ready to declare war.

"I don't have a problem," I stated with my calm voice then took a quick glance at her hand on my blouse. "But I think you'll be the one to have a problem if you don't take your filthy hand off me." I added, but my tone now had a hint of warning.

It proved that I just added oil to the fire when I felt her other hand start to lift up, ready to kiss my cheek. But I stopped her by grasping onto her arm, making me drop the books on her feet in the process.

"Ow!" She cried out which made me roll my eyes. I seriously don't have time for this shit. "You stupid little--"

"I'm going to warn you, peasants," I cut her off before she could cuss at me, and it seemed that they're ready to shove themselves into me at the nickname.

"Just who do you think you are?" The other bimbo snapped at me.

I just smiled at the question then went to pick up my books. And at the moment I finished, I stared at the three of them one by one, I don't know what expression I was wearing that made them shudder but I'm sure that I was smiling.

"What are you guys, some kind of queen bees that rule the school?" I asked then scoffed, provoking them. I looked at them from head to toe then smirked. "Doesn't suit you, my dear."

That made the leader bimbo smirk and put her hand on her hip, obviously challenging me. "And who are you to say those things to us?" She asked with a mischievous tone.

"Oh, trust me, you don't want to know." I shot back innocently, matching her smile.

"Oh, I want to. Please enlighten me~" She mimicked my tone and it made anger gush throughout my system.

"I'm the one that can hurt you so bad... you'll wish your mother should've kept her legs closed."

Her smirk suddenly vanished and it replaced a look I cared less to decode. I heard some muffled amused chuckles and giggles from the bystanders. I mentally sighed because the attention from the other students is getting on my nerves, especially the presence of the peasants standing in front of me.

"If you don't get out of my sight in four seconds, you three are gonna get it."

But they didn't give me a chance to count because they already made a run to their escape. Did my threat really scared them that badly? I'm not even going to kill them.

I won't be surprised if I get called and get a detention because of this.

I shrugged then shifted my gaze at the poor nerd still sitting on the floor. I clicked my tongue in annoyance and my gaze turned into a menacing glare, tensing her up.

"And you," I snapped at her, and she instantly stood up then tried to fix herself.

"Y-Yes!" She stuttered, her voice broke because she was still crying.

"How long are you gonna keep crying and do nothing? Seriously, people like you make me sick." I narrowed my eyes at her fragile figure.

She lowered her head, ashamed. "Y-Yes... I'm sorry..."

I gave her one last look before passing by her, the heads of the students followed me. And within the crowd, I saw Yamaguchi and Tsukishima, and he was looking at me with furrowed eyebrows. I just focused to the task at hand.

People like her make me sick, because she was a reflection of my past self.

Kei.

"Man, that was scary!" I heard Yamaguchi exclaim beside me as we were on our way to the gymnasium for volleyball practice. He kept on blabbering about how Mikazuki intimidated the school's bullies. And I never once seen anyone stand up to them. "She's incredible."

I silently scoffed at his remark. Incredible? More like idiotic. Do you call a person who stood up to three bullies incredible? Never in a thousand years will I say her name and that word in a sentence. Because she's basically not normal. That sudden intimidating attitude slightly surprised me, and everybody will most likely take note of their lists of people not to mess with. And that included her.

What's more ironic is that she's working as a waitress at that café. I didn't really bother to look at her in those days until she transferred here. And I got intrigued by her disliking towards volleyball.

"Yeah..." I just muttered absentmindedly, not sparing a single glance at him.

"I remember the time when I also got bullied and you passed by... and you saved me." Yamaguchi reminisced and I looked at him at the corner of my eye, seeing a gentle smile crept upon his lips.

"I don't recall saving you though." I replied which made Yamaguchi's smile slightly falter.

"A-Ah... I see." He scratched the back of his head in embarrassment, chuckling lightly.

"But I remember that day." I informed him as we passed by the ingress of them gym and there we saw the team about to warm up.

"Good afternoon!" Yamaguchi greeted while I just muttered it with a nonchalant tone.

"Just in time for the warm-up." Sawamura-san said. I dropped my gym bag on the side and ran to the group.

As we stretched, Nishinoya-san spoke. "Hey guys, have you heard what happened earlier?!" He asked eagerly which made everyone's attention dart to the him. Tanaka-san bursted out laughing, which made me furrow my eyebrows in question.

"Heard what?" Shrimp asked, eyes sparkling in curiosity.

I also shifted my gaze at Nishinoya-san, who looked really excited to tell us the news we were still oblivious about. Well, not that I cared--

"You remember the girl who took a peek at us during practice?"

"The girl who's good at receiving?" Sawamura-san asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah, what was her name again?"

"Mikazuki-san?" Yamaguchi said, intrigued.

"Yeah, that!" Nishinoya-san exclaimed, pointing his finger at the one who said the correct answer.

"What about her, Noya?" Azumane-san asked.

"WELL--"

"She's so amusing, I like to be friends with her!" Tanaka-san said in between his laughs, interjecting Nishinoya-san's speech.

"Tanaka," Sawamura-san warned, and that made him immediately stop what he's doing. "Let Noya finish what he has to say, shall we?"

"Y-Yes..." Tanaka-san stuttered.

And that was when Nishinoya-san told them about what happened earlier. Some were amazed, shocked, afraid and some even laughed. I just rolled my eyes and suddenly remembered the saying that news spread like a virus. And it's starting to get on my nerves.

"Actually," After a whole while of the King being quiet and pondering hard about something, finally spoke up. Everyone's attention shifted to him, who looked like he had finally remembered something.

"She was my schoolmate back at middle school. And she was the famous middle blocker and captain of the girls' volleyball club."
