Chapter |4|
Danny soon learned that the two that broke into Aizawa's apartment were not robbers but instead his two best friends Yamada Hizashi and Nemuri Kayama. They were both well-known pro heroes.
Nemuri showered him in hugs which took him a while to get used to. He only just recently stopped flinching whenever she went in for a hug. He hasn't had any type of affection since he was four, not including that one time Dora had hugged him for helping her fight off her abusive brother. He can now confidently say he loved hugs. Once Yamada had noticed this he too have him plenty of hugs. Aizawa wasn't the hugging type but did show affection through other means. Like when he just now ruffled Danny's hair for managing to freeze a single grape from a vine.
Danny had three months until the entrance exam and since he already had decent control of his quirk he should be ready in no time. Especially with the help of three pro heroes.
"Good job kid, now I have to go on patrol so why don't you head over to the market and get yourself something to eat for dinner?" Aizawa said as he gave Danny 2,000 yen.
"What if I get lost?" Danny asked as he looked up at the tired hero. Aizawa blinked at him.
"Kid we walked there plenty of times together certainly you know the way by now"
"Don't judge me okay, I still sometimes get lost in the apartment"
"It's literally just four rooms"
"Your point is?"
"Alright alright, here," He handed Danny a small flip phone.
"That's my old cell, you can use that to call me if you get lost. Tomorrow we'll head out and get you your phone" The underground hero put on his goggles.
"My... own phone? That's too much! You've already done enough for me! I can just use this one it's not a big deal!" Danny exclaimed in a small panic. He wasn't used to people spending money on him. He felt too guilty.
"Kid, kid calm down it's not a big deal. I'm the one who encouraged you to come to Japan and there's no way in hell I'm gonna let you walk around with a five-year-old cell phone. There's a lot of villains around here" With that, he wrapped his capture gear around him like a scarf and climbed out the window.
Danny's stomach began to growl so he decided to head out. He tucked the old cell phone into his back pocket along with the 2,000 yen.
He made sure to close and lock the door on his way out, also putting the key in his pocket. As he walked down the busy sidewalk, he couldn't help but notice a bunch of crows flying about in circles. One even swooped down and pecked his shoulder but was shooed away by a kind old woman. Danny smiled at her and thanked her before soon catching sight of the market.
He mentally congratulated himself for not getting lost, which was a miracle. He walked inside the marketplace and began to search for something easy to make. He didn't have any knowledge of food but he was up to trying new things. One of those things is ice cream. One time in second grade the class was rewarded with ice cream for good behavior but one of his bullies decided to steal it.
Making up his mind he went to the ice cream aisle and grabbed some chocolate ice cream. He then went to pick something for dinner since he knew having ice cream for dinner wasn't a healthy choice. Granted, would it affect him? No, but he also wanted to try some new ramen. After looking over some choices he picked out some miso ramen. Taking his two items upfront, he checked out and paid for his meal. It cost 441 yen so he had plenty to give back to Aizawa.
He put his groceries in a paper bag then headed out. There were a lot fewer people out on the streets on his way back to Aizawa's apartment. A bunch of clouds was also blocking the sun's light so it was a bit darker as well. He couldn't help but feel a little uneasy. The crows seemed to be watching him though which made him shudder. He quickened his pace to make it back faster. However, as he passed by a sketchy-looking neighborhood he came to the sudden realization that he was lost. How he didn't realize sooner is beyond him. He thought about calling Aizawa but thought against it, after all the hero is probably in the middle of saving someone. He is on patrol after all.
He began to wander around, looking for someone who could tell him where he was. As he passed by an alleyway, a hand suddenly grabbed his arm and yanked him in. He yelped as he was harshly thrown against the ground.
"What the fuck!" He angrily shouted as his ice cream fell out of his paper bag and onto the dirty ground. Luckily the lid didn't pop off. He looked up and saw a scary-looking man. He was huge, much taller than Danny. Although that didn't say much since Danny was only like 5'2", a fact he was very unhappy about. He had on the usual villain garb, dark clothes, gloves, mask. Although his gloves looked to be made out of metal.
Those couldn't possibly be comfortable.
"What do you want from me?" Danny resisted the urge to call the attacker a name. That'd get him shot or something and he wasn't in the mood to deal with a billet wound again.
Story for another time.
"From you? Nothing" The man let out an evil-sounding laugh. Danny glared and turned intangible when the man looked like he was about to punch him. To Danny's surprise, the fist did not go right through him like he was expecting. It hit him as if he wasn't currently impalpable.
The man's metal-covered fist made contact with his face. He heard a crunching noise and whimpered as he felt his nose break. How the ever-loving fuck did that creepy ass man hit him through his intangibility? What kinda fuckery is this?
Danny shook away the pain and quickly stood up. He shot an ectoblast at the man but instead of harming him like it normally would, it just absorbed right into him. Danny squinted his eyes and as he looked more closely, he could see a green sheen covering the man's clothing and mask. The green glow seemed to be coming from the gloves. Danny knew that for his ghostly powers to work he needed to get those gloves off. But how?
Much to Danny's dismay, he knew he would have to fight without his powers. He's mainly been working on controlling his quirk to make sure he had control over his ghostly ice to where it wouldn't freeze everything within a ten-mile radius. He also mainly worked on creating portals bigger than the size of a quarter. Needless to say, he's not very good at fighting hand-to-hand combat yet. Sure, he could hold his own in a fight but he mainly depended on his quirk to win.
Danny dodged out of the way from an upcoming punch and instead kicked the man's ouchi spot. Sure, it was fighting dirty but did Danny give a fuck? Hell no, the dude almost ruined his ice cream. Which was about to melt so he really should finish this up.
As the man was recovering from that kick from hell, Danny grabbed a nearby trash can lid and slammed it in the guy's face. Danny winced in sympathy as he heard a crunch, he broke the dude's nose.
Payback bitch.
"What's going- kid!?" Danny immediately relaxed when he heard the familiar voice. Although the slightly panicked tone was new.
"Oh, hi Aiz-" he was cut off when a gloved hand wrapped around his throat.
Oh shit, so he didn't knock him out... Also just how big is this dude's hand.
"Don't come any closer or I'll rip the kids' head off"
Well damn.
Half ghost or not, Danny still needed oxygen. The man seemed a bit panicked once he realized that the scraggly-looking man in front of him was a hero. Danny once again tried to go intangible to escape the mans choking grip but couldn't. His vision began to waver and he just barely picked up Aizawa's voice trying to talk the man down from strangling him.
Danny's blurred vision caught sight of the man's other gloved hand which was resting against his side, trying to give the impression he had a weapon there. Thinking fast, Danny used his other hand, which wasn't trying to pry the asshole's hand off his neck, to grab the glove. With strength only managed through adrenaline, he yanked the glove off making the green sheen disappear. Danny went intangible and slipped out of the man's hold easily.
Aizawa immediately took action and had the villain tied up and knocked out in no time for the cops to find. Meanwhile, Danny was coughing and wheezing on the ground with a concerned Aizawa beside him.
"Kid, c'mon kid breath. Take deep breaths, match my breathing, in... out... in..." this went on until Danny finally got his breathing under control. His throat and vocal cords felt sore along with his face. The adrenaline soon wore off and the overuse of his quirk (mainly from the training he did earlier that day) made him exhausted. It didn't take long for him to pass out.
The tired hero picked the kid up gently, not liking the unconscious flinch his kid made, then made a quick phone call to the police.
He had been in the middle of his patrol when he heard a commotion coming from the alleyway. When he went to check it out, he saw an injured Danny smacking a villain with a trashcan lid. When the villain then tried to strangle Danny in front of the hero, Aizawa had truly felt fear. A fear he had not felt since he had watched his own parents' lives be at the mercy of some villains. He blinked away those thoughts as he stared down at Danny. He was still clutching the man's glove which Aizawa had just realized had the letters 'DALV' written on the side. He decided to take it home to research it.
He looked at Danny once again and notice hand-shaped bruises around his collar bone along with a broken nose. Now even angrier, he glared daggers at the slowly awakening villain before taking Danny to see recovery girl.
And if he gave one more punch to the villain for good measure, well, that was his business.
