Yellow Doom
Jack Fenton.... Don't look at the scribbles next to him...
They flew around in relative silence. Sometimes stealing glances from Fenton and Phantom. Fenton had a thoughtful expression and was carrying Phantom on his back now.
Back in the ship Kwan's stomach rumbled. He groaned. "Can we stop for lunch, Mrs. Fenton?"
Jack grinned. "Getting hungry there, chum? How about we find a good island to stop and have lunch."
There were a few cheers and everyone glued their faces to the windows. Sometimes pointing out an island only to be turned down by the others.
Dorian glanced at the ship and the scuttling students inside. "I believe they are looking for a spot to land."
Dani pumped her fist. "Good. I'm hungry."
Dorian glanced around and realized he knew where they were. "Aren't we close to Queen Pandora's palace?"
At the mention of her name, Fenton snapped his head up. "Huh? Pandora? Where?"
Damien grinned. "You awake there, Fenton? We're looking for a place to land."
"Already?" Phantom frowned. "We've only been flying for a few minutes."
"Actually it's been two hours," David said. He had a great internal clock, unlike the other clones. "It's probably lunch time."
"There it is!" Dani leaned over Stephanie, pointing excitedly at a huge Greek palace.
It was magnificent. Many buildings of different sizes were littered on a hill and a path of stairs came from the bottom making a way to the top of the hill. Thick pillars held up the roofs and intricate patterns decorated the walls. A kingdom worthy of a queen.
Everyone paused a moment to admire it. It was always a sight to behold.
Then Stephanie snorted impatiently. "Well? What are we waiting for? Let's go. I want to see it from the inside."
My lil steph knows English. Round of applause
"Wait!" Fenton held up a hand, stopping the rest. He squinted at the palace and Phantom could feel him shift nervously and tense up.
Phantom leaned over to see his other half's worried expression. "What's up?"
"I don't know. It's just...the aura. It feels weird. Something's wrong."
The people in the ship glanced at each other. They were close enough to be able to hear everything the ghosts were saying and none missed Fenton's worried comment.
Suddenly the boy flew forward, closer to the island. The others followed.
It got closer but before they could take another step something appeared in their way.
It was a sign of sorts. On it was a the picture of a swirl and a spear impaling it.
It sucks but this is what it looks like, alright.
Fenton gasped and quickly formed a shield around the ghosts.
The others looked at him in confusion.
The humans inside the ship frowned at the sign.
"Wait what's wrong. Why is Danny so scared of a sign?" Mikey questioned.
"He's not afraid of the sign." Everyone turned to look at Sam, who looked pale. She exchanged a worried glance with Tucker. "He's afraid of what it stands for."
Chelsea tried to calm down Blackjack, who was going crazy in panic. "Whoa there, Blackjack. Slow down. You're gonna throw me off like this."
At this, the steed settled down but didn't stop shuffling. Chelsea glanced at the two Dannys. "Why are we stopping? What does that mean?"
Phantom glanced back at the confused faces. Even his cousins didn't know about this. They hadn't been around long enough. "Let's just say it's the ghost equivalent of a skull with crossed bones."
David gasped. "Death?!"
Phantom pursed his lips. "Almost. It means quarantine."
"What?!!!"
Fenton finally turned around. "Something happened. Pandora is in trouble. But we can't get in or we might be affected. It's dangerous."
"Well, we aren't just gonna leave them, right?" Dani bit her lip.
I'm looking at my phone with a worried expression (it's for character) and people probably think i just read that my cat died and am about to cry.
"Of course not." Fenton huffed and looked around. His eyes alighted on the ship.
Phantom saw his expression and his eyes widened. "Oh no. We are not doing that. Don't you dare."
Fenton scowled. "What. You want to just leave? It's the only safe option."
"What is it?" David said.
Fenton sighed and flew closer to the ship. Phantom fidgeting nervously. "Can you land the ship for a moment and turn it off? I have an idea."
They did as they were told and opened the door. Many faces poked out as Fenton approached them with a neutral expression.
"We need to get all the ghosts inside the ship."
The ghosts gasped, shocked.
Maddie frowned in concern. "Are you sure that is a good idea, sweetie?"
Phantom scowled. "No." But Fenton ignored him. "The filters are off now right? And the ones from inside can't harm us anymore because they're clogged. Once we're all inside we won't be affected."
Tucker's face cleared. "And because the Space Shuttle has thick isolation we can approach the island without being infected by whatever is happening there, great thinking Danny! I mean...Fenton."
Fenton nodded, face still neutral. "I have my moments. Let's get on with it. I want to get there as fast as possible."
His cousins approached hesitantly, only entering after an encouraging nod from Fenton. They were relieved to find out that they didn't feel weaker, although the air felt stale.
The students made way and some even let the cousins sit on their seats, knowing about their state. It would've fit easily if not for Leroy, Stephanie and Blackjack but they got in.
Tucker stopped Fenton and Phantom before they could enter. "Are you sure you're ok?"
Phantom hugged himself and shook his head. He tried not to look at the machine so as not to bring back memories. Fenton rubbed his face. "Let's just go in." He pushed Phantom in and quickly phased them to the cockpit.
Phantom held his eyes shut tight and let himself be dragged to the front. He thought he could feel tingling but it was probably only muscle memory saying: if you won't see it, you're gonna feel it.
Fenton felt a shudder go through his body but he ignored it and gestured at his parents to go ahead.
They nodded and closed the door. The ship was turned on and started floating.
Fenton and Phantom gripped hands, comforted by their other half's presence.
Still not pitchpearl its just their connection as to being the same person.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when no one fell dead at their feet and turned their attention to the island.
Only now did they notice the dull and discolored aura. The sign appeared a few more times, warning them before giving up on their sanity and disappearing.
They arrived at the front and easily slipped through the big pillars.
It was deserted.
Those who had seen the Greek building in better times, when it was bustling with people and thriving with life, shuddered.
"Where is everyone?" David asked.
Damien's eyes flitted around in search for any sign of life. "We just have to go further in."
"You- you don't think we might be too late, right?" David stuttered, asking the question everyone wanted to avoid.
"No." Phantom replied firmly. "They're secluded to prevent whatever sickness they have to spread." He said it with such conviction that the others believed him.
Finally they spotted someone. A man. He was huge. Probably passed two meters in height. He was carrying something and walked in a brisk pace. He hadn't noticed them yet.
Jack honked and waved when the man jumped and stared at them in horror. "Hello sir. We came by to-"
"You can't be here!" The man dropped whatever he was carrying and blocks of ice clattered on the ground. He waved his hands and took a few steps towards them. "Get out! Haven't you seen!! It is dangerous."
Fenton rushed forward. "Stop!"
The man stood stockstill. His eyes widened. "Daniel!!"
Fenton leaned forward. "Where's Queen Pandora, Aesop? And why isn't Elda guarding the entrance?"
Aesop cocked his head. "Have you not seen the sign? We are under great pressure. You must leave."
Phantom appeared next to his human half, startling the poor ghost to the afterlife. "We know. Our vehicle protects us but you can't come close when it's on. Show us where Queen Pandora is. We want to help."
Aesop blinked at the two Dannys in confusion but decided there were graver matters. "As you wish. Follow me."
He led them out to a different building where they encountered more ghosts.
Danny (both of them) felt more relieved the more ghosts they saw and recognized. However their worry increased for the ones they didn't see.
"Are the children separated? Did the animals catch it yet? Kill those and burn their stables. We must eradicate all they have touched."
A familiar commanding voice echoed through the halls and when they turned a corner they saw her.
Pandora pointed one of her arms to some servants, who scurried of to carry her orders. Her large figure (she towered over Aesop and her other servants by two heads) was adorned in her usual royal armor and her long purple and flaming hair gave her that (unnecessary) fierce touch.
Her red eyes alighted on the ship and she frowned. "Who are you to dare enter my city in such circumstances."
"Pandora!" Fenton waved. "Are you ok? What happened."
The Fenton parents gasped. They recognized the giant woman who had helped Phantom, their son, suck all the things plaguing Amity Park in a box.
Pandora gasped. "Why, Danny! You mustn't be here."
"We want to help!" Sam pushed her way to one of the windows. "Tell us what kind it is."
Pandora sighed. "It is an old disease. Something I had hoped to never see again. But who are all these children with you?"
Fenton quickly explained and she nodded, as if an educational field trip into the ghost realm for adolescents packed in one flying ship with as only supervision three adults was completely normal.
"This is a ghostly disease. Although fatal for us, it will not harm humans," Pandora clarified to ease at least part of their worries. She paused to listen to another woman and sighed sadly. "Another two lost. The meek things."
Fenton chocked back a gasp and Phantom exclaimed: "You have deaths?!"
Pandora paused on the two Dannys. "Daniel, what have you done now?"
The two took offense and shouted out. "It wasn't my fault!"
Maddie shook her head. "Long story. We need to focus on the problem at hand. Could you show us the diseased? We are ghostly scientists. We might be able to help."
Pandora nodded and guided them away. "We call it 'Eduqa'."
The students frowned in confusion.
"Erueca?" Richard tried to pronounce the word. "That sounds cheerful."
Sam shook her head. "It's Ghost. Although it's nothing I recognize."
Tucker scratched his head. "Translated literally, it means Yellow Demise."
Richard shrugged. "That still doesn't sound too bad."
Pandora spoke with a sad undertone. "You shall understand when you see it."
They stopped by a door. Pandora paused. "I would advise those of you with a weak stomach to close your eyes." She opened the doors.
Those who didn't follow her advise sucked in a breath.
The room was medium large with beds littered across it. There were about ten ghosts squirming in pain on the beds and a few standing ghosts attending the others.
There was an obvious difference between the ghosts. The nurses were (healthy) blue skinned and tall. The sick ones seemed to have shrunk. They had scabs covering their bodies and...they were yellow.
Gasps were heard inside the ship.
Phantom reached out as if to touch them but took a shaky gasp and hugged himself. Fenton was tense. "Let me out."
Maddie sighed. "Dann-"
He scowled and shouted: "Let me out!! I need to see them I need to help. Op-"
He started pushing his way to the door when a firm hand stopped him. He looked back to see his dad.
"Think of the ghosts inside."
Fenton paled. How could he have forgotten his cousins?! His very own family!!
"I- I'm sorry. You're right. I wasn't-"
Damien shook his head. "It's fine. We'll just drive the ship out so you can get out."
Maddie frowned. "We are not leaving you out there alone."
Tucker raised his hand. "I'll drive the ship back, Mrs. Fenton. I want to stay inside anyways."
It took a little persuasion but they were able to convince the Fentons to let Tucker take the wheel.
They turned the ship and drove out away from the island. All the while, the Fentons were teaching Tucker how to work the different controls and the technogeek absorbed it all like a sponge.
Fenton stepped through the open door. He looked back in through the windows at his other half.
Phantom nodded.
Fenton glanced at his parents. "Let's go."
