Sleep tight
Paulina screeched, "There's a boy in my bed!!"
"When isn't there!!" Somebody shouted.
Danny looked at Paulina's bed, which was right next to his. His face went white. There lay Tucker, looking as if he was just waking up.
He groaned and stretched, happy to be out of that confined place, "Duude. That was so small. I'm all cramped," then he actually looked up. Every student stood around him looking down at him in shock. Tucker grinned, "'sup"
Someone muttered, "Jumping ship"
"What's going on here," Maddie pushed past the kids. She stopped when she saw Tucker, Jack appearing next to her, "Tucker?!"
Said boy looked sheepish, "Hi"
Jack was confused and Maddie frowned, "What are you doing here?"
"He wasn't chosen," Andrew added helpfully.
Tucker fidgeted, "Uuh...well..you see"
Danny raised his hand to catch his parents' attention, "I might have snuck him in"
Maddie's widened, "You did what?!"
Danny cringed. She's gonna be so mad.
And mad she was, "Daniel Fenton! You brought in someone without our permission?!"
"Would you have given it?!" Shut uuup, Danny told his mouth.
Maddie was scowling. The adolescents were watching with interest at the fight.
Tucker spoke up, not wanting his friend to take all the scolding, "It was my fault. I'm sorry, Mrs. Fenton"
Maddie snapped her head towards him and he flinched. Maddie was scary. "Yes, it is. You shouldn't have been here. But you don't know all the dangers of the Ghost Zone. You don't know about all the trouble you could get in. Danny does. He lives with us. He's our son. And he got you in here without our or your parents' consent!!"
Tucker wanted to point out that the other kids in this ship were in as much danger as he is. But he didn't. Just like he didn't point out that he did know what kind of trouble he could get in. He kept quiet.
The angry mother turned to Danny. He looked at her defiantly and ready to protect his friend. But there was a spark of fear in his eyes. He had stood up against bullies, ghosts, and an old man with three times more power than he has. But it all seemed a piece of cake as he stood here in front of his fuming mom. Sure, he'd seen her angry before but that was usually directed at Phantom. And as Phantom, he could escape her fury. Now, as Fenton and Maddie's son, he was powerless.
Jack placed his hand on his wife's shoulder. She looked at him still scowling but stopped when she saw him smile reassuringly. She understood and her expression softened. Maddie looked at Danny sternly and inspected his face. She saw nervousness and slight fear. But she also saw stubborness. There was no regret in his expression. He didn't feel sorry for bringing his friend and he would do it again. No amount of scolding would change that. However, he wouldn't get away with it that easily.
"Very well. Seems like Tucker will have to join us. However.." she interrupted the two celebrating friends. They looked at her expectantly, knowing they were gonna get to hear their punishment.
Maddie looked at Danny's bed, "There are only eighteen beds for those who were allowed to come. So we're one bed short. Tucker..," she looked at Tucker and he cringed, "you will sleep in Danny's bed and Danny will sleep in the cockpit."
Tucker didn't know wether to cheer or to pout. He got to sleep in a comfy bed but he wouldn't get to stay alone with all the technology at the front and have all 'night' to investigate every nook and crany of the stuff.
Danny sighed and accepted his fate. This was rather a light punishment but he guessed his mother would be keeping a closer eye on him from now on. He would have to be more careful about what he did.
Tucker got ready for bed and Danny decided to just sleep with his clothes on. He wouldn't bother with pajamas now. He didn't really mind. He grabbed his backpack from the cabinet and dragged it to the cockpit.
All the other adolescents got ready for bed when they realised the show was over. Danny heard someone muther "Badass" as he passed but he couldn't quite figure out who.
He waved goodbye at Tucker, who gave him an apolagetic smile and then stuck his tongue out as he snug into the sheets. Then the halfghost smiled at Sam who winked.
She looked after the raven haired boy as he dropped his bag by the chair. The goth was still unsure about what Danny had said before. Was it true? Or was that just as a friend?
What did she want it to be?
She stopped to consider that.
Danny flopped down. He yelped when the seatbelt automatically wrapped around his stomach and clicked shut. Danny tried to take it off but didn't know how. He slumped into his chair defeatedly and decided to wait until morning. He could slide his legs out of the seatbelt but that would just be uncomfortable when he slept.
He curled his legs as best as he could and slid so he was laying on his side. At least the seatbelt was slightly stretchy.
He stared out the window. Maddie appeared at his side and Danny closed his eyes, hoping she wasn't mad anymore.
"Danny, I know you're awake," he shook his head. She sighed, "I know I slightly overreacted back there but you know why, don't you?"
He nodded reluctantly. She didn't say anything else and pressed a button on the left. The windows closed with a snap and Danny heard all the windows in the back do the same. Maddie turned around and went to her bed without another glance.
Danny opened his eyes and sighed. Then he realised he had forgotten to ask her how to unfasten the seatbelt. He hoped he would remember tomorrow. Right now he didn't want to face her. Not even for that. He glanced down and started in surprise. The seatbelt was glowing. It was a faint green glow. So faint you wouldn't be able to see it in the light. Was that normal?
Danny turned and looked at the rows of seats through the opening of the cockpit. There was no green glow. He paled. It was picking up on his ghost form. Or maybe his core. Whatever but it knew he was halfghost. He started panicking until he realised he was afraid of a seatbelt knowing his secret.
He grabbed a jacket from his backpack and swung it across his lap like a sheet. It covered the glow. Now his parents wouldn't notice as long as it didn't slide off.
Suddenly he heard a beep and he looked back. He saw a small white light and somebody groaned. Then a voice.
"Mrs. Fenton?"
"Mmh?"
"Is there any wifi on this ship?"
Danny laid back down and tried to get comfortable as he listened to his mom explain why there was no reception or internet in the Ghost Zone. Many groans were heard and Danny rolled his eyes. The Ghost Zone was a whole other dimension than the Human Zone. Of course there wouldn't be wifi.
The halfa fidgeted until his eyes slowly closed. He wondered what would happen tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Danny yelped when the window next to him snapped open. He looked around frantically in confusion and spotted his father standing next to him. Jack grinned, "Good morning, son!"
Danny slumped back in his seat and rubbed his face as his dad turned away. He mumbled an incoherent 'morning' and ruffled his hair.
He listened to the sounds of teenagers waking up for a while. Then he pushed his jacket off him and slid his legs from the belt. He stood up and immediately wrapped his arms around his middle. His stomach hurt. He ground his teeth and waited for the pain to subside but it didn't stop. Then he glared daggers at the no longer glowing seatbelt. He wound the jacket around his middle so he could use it later if he needed to. Then he dragged his backpack to his bed, now Tucker's, and plopped it next to it.
Tucker was still sleeping soundly so Danny kneeled his stomach. The dark skinned boy groaned and clutched his stomach.
"Now you know how I feel," Danny told him and Tucker looked up.
"Why? You sick or something," he sat up halfasleep.
"Kind of. My seatbelt is antighost," the halfa muttered quietly.
Tucker frowned, "Seriously? Everything seems antighost on this ship. Well why didn't you take it off"
Danny shrugged, "Don't know how"
"Lemme see your stomach"
Danny held up his shirt and Tucker hummed. "What?" Danny asked.
"You, my dear sir, need to lose some weight," he patted the other boy's belly with a smirk.
Danny lowered his shirt and huffed, "You're kidding. I'm hungry as hell. If I have to be fat, then so be it."
Tucker smiled. They both knew Danny was skinny thanks to all the exercise. The only reason why Tucker wasn't as skinny as him was because he ate a lot more meat. And he didn't skip meals because his parents had made it antighost.
Tucker shook his head and went to the point, "But you don't have any burns. Mostly if something is antighost it burns their ectoplasm or skin. You only have a stomachache."
"Only?! It hurts more than I'm showing right now. And who says it didn't burn my ectoplasm. Maybe we just can't see it."
"No, dude. We would see it. Just like we can see it with any other antighost weapon."
Danny shrugged, "I guess I'll ask my parents"
"No, idiot. What will they think"
"Don't worry. I'll be casual."
"And how did you know the seatbelts were antighost anyways? You aren't a ghost, are you Danny?" Tucker asked mockingly. Danny stopped. "Oh, yeah."
Tucker stood up and grabbed his clothes, "Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone, loverboy."
Danny gaped after him, "What?"
The other smirked, "Oh, you know. With 'the girl you love'?" He stood in line behind Star and Danny turned back to the bed with a frown. He'd heard it, dammit. Now he wasn't going to let it go.
Danny put on his shoes, which he'd taken off before sleeping, and sat down on the bed to wait. He wanted to wash his face but as he looked at the long line for the bathroom he decided it wasn't worth it. Especially if Paulina and Star were in line. They would take forever.
Danny licked his hand and brought it across his face. He heard someone mutter "Eew" and looked up.
Andrew was in line next to him. Danny stared at him for a second, hand still on his face, before licking it again and rubbing his eye. Andrew scrunched his nose and Danny ignored him.
The hybrid ran a hand through his hair to try to comb it a bit. He hadn't brought his hairbrush because that was the last thing his mind was on. He had been so absentminded that it was only thanks to Jazz that he'd remembered to pack his toothbrush.
When he was done he lay down and closed his eyes. He felt strangely more tired than usual. He'd already gotten used to the inpredictable sleeping patterns that ghost hunting brought. So he didn't know why he felt so tired now. He passed it off as a side effect of having a good night's sleep this time. His body had loosened up and was just getting its rest. Now he had woken up and interrupted his just relaxing body. It needed time to wake up now.
Next thing he knew his mom was telling everyone to make their beds and switch it back for the seats. He must have fallen asleep because the bathroom was empty. Danny sat up and neglected Tucker's plea for him to make his bed. His mother saw him and beckoned him over.
"You'll sit in my or your father's seat. We will sit in the cockpit now."
Danny nodded and sat down by the door. He looked around and recognised a few things from the infinity map he and his friends had studied. He sucked in breath. If they went forward a bit farther they would get to Skulker's island. They had to turn!!
He looked around frantically. What to do!! Then his eyes landed on Jack, who was just leaving the restroom. Danny saw his mom go to the front and he quickly made his way to the back, where his father stood.
"Hi, dad!" He forced himself to calm down and act casual, "Hey. Where are we going?"
"Good morning, son," Jack smiled, "well, I don't really know. We're..."
"Hey, don't you think that side looks more exciting?" He interrupted his dad impatiently and pointed to the left.
Jack looked. It looked exactly the same as going forward but Jack had a big imagination.
Danny decided to rub it in more, "I mean. Doesn't it look greaner? Maybe it's because a more powerful ghost lives there. And look there are more doors!!" He added excitedly.
Jack seemed unsure and Danny's heart dropped. He fidgeted with his foot a little, "I guess you're right, Danny-boy. We'll go there"
Danny sighed and slumped against the door of the bathroom in relief as his father walked to the front. He saw him talk with his mom and crossed his fingers. She shrugged, not really caring where they were going and they turned.
Danny chuckled softly. Who knew his dad could be so easily manipulated. He felt kind of guilty. He shouldn't take advantage of his dad like that. The halfghost was suddenly snapped from his thoughts when the door of the bathroom, on which he was still leaning, opened. Out stepped an annoyed Paulina.
"Were you spying on me. Creep"
Before Danny could explain she was gone, leaving behind a blushing halfa.
The ship flew for another few minutes before coming across an island. The first lair since they had woken up.
"Look outside, children" Maddie announced, "this is where we will make a stop for today. Or at least this morning"
There was no need to tell the adolescents to look. They were already staring and a few groaned.
"There's no escape to it!" Somebody shouted disdainfully.
Danny had to agree. Because right in front of them...
Floated a ghostly high school.
Wassul mah fellas.
Whew that was longer than normal right? Youre welcome. So the trios back. Yay
Btw. Sorry for that dirty joke at the beginning. I couldnt help myself.
Anyways. You all remember the highschool. Know whos there? ;)
Ps. Its annoying how other books show danny as some hardcore badass (not that it isnt entertaining) but danny isnt like that at all. We all know him as the clueless, dorky, cheesy halfghost so thats how im trying to portray him.
Pps. I wuld totally do that licking thing
So did you like it??
Plz vote/comment blablabla
