Athene Giovanni
Bamboos! A Hemingway in the hand, seated in a corner booth, a secluded bar pumping with limitless alcohol and music and surrounded by hot, stupid boys? Equals paradise. Can a person find anything better than this? I guess not. I slowly swirled the drink in my hand, my eyes focused on how my lips staining the glass in a wicked way. I brought my tongue to swipe across my lips slowly.
"Ahem." Someone cleared his throat, successfully gaining my attention. I lift my gaze from the drink in my hand to the person, taking him in.
"When did you became this hot, Ree?" I squint my eyes, my tone neutral. Blue turtle neck tee tucked in white check pants, with a bed messy hair, he is definitely looking hotter than I remember.
"Seriously, Evelina? That's the first thing you noticed? I don't know whether I should worry or blush." He huffs awkwardly. I can see a pink hue adorning his rosy nose and cheeks which of course graced its presence against his wishes. I simply give him a chuckle in return.
"I've told you many times, don't call me Evelina" I roll my eyes.
"I can't help it, Evelina makes you less scary." He winks. When he sees me shaking my head in a you-won't-change manner, he switches the topic.
"So how long is your vacation? I knew from the moment I got the call that you will come here. After all, you miss me so much." He grins. How I wish to wipe it off clean from his face.
"For the last time, I'm. Not. On. A. Bloody. Vacation. I left, and isn't going back." Suddenly I lose all my interest in him and my drink had me again. Realizing it's already empty, I signal the bartender to bring two more.
"And what was all the commotion you caused this morning? Don't you have a teensy bit of common sense left? Or should I find a donor to replace your rusted brain?" My eyes focused again on him in an accusing manner.
"I was excited to see you and when you texted me, I couldn't help but rush." He pouts, giving him a cute and innocent look.
"You're a celebrity for fuck's sake, Ree. And I don't want unnecessary attention, if you came to me like this in public, it would cause me a headache." I scolded him for his stupidity, keeping my face stern.
"Because of you, I even sought help from an asshole." My annoyance peaked to a higher level at the thought of that bastard. Who does he think he is? I puff my cheeks.
"Huh? What?" He widens his eyes, requesting full details of the incident.
There go my 5 minutes of life in the trash.
"Did I heard that someone threatened you and got away? Which lucky human is that?" His shock is evident in his voice.
"Yes, because he helped me even though he wasn't really helping much. And he was gorgeous. He is a walking fire, FYI." My lips curling up as his image formed in my mind. Rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt showing the outline of his abs, the coat hanging on his shoulders, the way his muscles flexed as he took the book from the shelf, oh my God. His face craved by the devil himself, a strong jaw, cute and sharp eyebrows, and emerald luring orbs made him a sin that you're willing to commit. He could have me right there but It's pity that I don't do assholes.
"Ah, now I get it. He got away because he is gorgeous not because he helped." He gives me a knowing smirk and sipped from his jack and coke. We talked for a long time catching up with each other, laughing at his lame jokes, time went flying.
"I missed you so damn much, Eve." He said while crushing me into a hug.
"I know, I missed you too." I pat his head, with a small smile hanging on my lips, I kiss his forehead. "You took care of yourself, good. I must say that." I pinch his nose.
"There you go, playing all mom." He rolls his eyes smiling.
"I'm your momma, kiddo." I raise my eyebrow daring him to say otherwise.
"Yeah yeah. You're just six years older than me, Mommy." He laughs.
I hug him once more and takes my strides to walk out.
"And Hey, Eve." He calls out. I didn't try to slow my pace, but he knows that I'm listening to him alright.
"We both know this is a vacation for you." He laughs out loud.
I slow my pace and flips him off gracefully. His laugh fading away into the cold night. I breathe in the evil lingering in the air, NYC has always been the glamorous poison. Seductive and luring in the surface, lethal and wicked beneath.
Two cars speeding down the lane catch my attention.
Woah, they got some skills.
Feeling refreshed, I quickly get in my Lexus LC.
Babe, you are lucky tonight. I've got some prey to feed on tonight. I smirk, looking at the mirror. I quickly followed the two cars joining in their race. A blue Porsche 911 was moving fast and an Acura model RLX was following with no much gap in between them, I made a drift when I reached the curve swiftly taking over both of them. I missed the adrenaline I get from racing, cars have always been my bloody weakness.
Soon, my big ego got hurt because the Acura blocked the path of Porsche and another one which came from who- -knows- where surrounded the Porsche beauty, shortly after. And it became crystal clear that they don't give a flying fuck about my existence and the fact that I easily took over them. My eyes zeroed into the five men who got out from the cars.
This scene smells like none-of-my business to me but who doesn't love to watch an action- drama- thriller. I giggled to myself like a little girl. My interest got piqued when I saw a tall man slowly getting out of the Porsche and to my surprise, it was none other than the asshole I met in the morning.
Ah, looks like Karma was free enough to take my revenge this soon.
