Trust
The Phantom and Raoul have both put their faith in Christine to cook dinner for the night for the first time. Well, some of their faith...
Raoul and Erik both sat at the table across from one another. Erik sipped his glass of wine and Raoul was playing with his fork and knife that had already been set on the table. They were both anxiously waiting for Christine to come out of the kitchen with dinner ready.
"I trust Christine." Erik announced all of a sudden. Raoul looked at him. "So, you think she knows what she's doing?" Erik grimaced. "I wouldn't go that far." They sat in silence again for a moment, until Raoul spoke up.
"So, this is the first time she's cooking?" Raoul asked. Erik nodded. "I always promised her that, with me, she would live a life of luxury and wouldn't have to lift a finger, so I've always cooked. Although, today, she said she wanted to do something nice for the both of us, so she decided to make the dinner."
"Should I be nervous?" Raoul asked. "I would be." Erik said frankly. The two sipped and twiddled their fingers in silence. That is, until Christine emerged from the kitchen.
"Is everyone hungry? I sure hope so, because dinner is ready!" Christine giggled. She went behind the door again to go get the meal, and Erik and Raoul were already sweating.
"She's a beautiful creature, but why does that bright smile she was wearing only make me more nervous about what she's about to serve us?" Erik lamented. Raoul nervously gulped. "Is she plotting our demise through food?"
Christine walked out of the kitchen door with a perfect, normal-looking plate of devilled eggs. "This is only the appetizer, I still have to get the main dish. Please, help yourself!" She offered kindly, setting the plate down in front of the men. She waltzed back into the kitchen to grab the main course.
Erik and Raoul stared at the eggs as if they were snakes. "You try it first." Raoul dared. "Why don't you try it first?" Erik offered instead. "No no, I insist. You are the man of the house." Raoul gestured. "Ah, but you are my guest, therefore you should have the first bite." Erik countered. "I greatly insist that you have the first bite, maskey." Raoul name-called.
Erik groaned. "Okay, this is getting ridiculous. This is for Christine. Seeing how I love her more, I will be the one to take the first bite." Raoul frowned. "You may have won her heart, but I still love Christine as well! I will try it." They both picked up one deviled egg at the same time. "Together we shall go?" Raoul asked. Erik nodded. "May the best man live." They both nodded and took a bite.
Their faces lit up. "Hey, this isn't bad at all! It's rather tasty." Raoul remarked. Erik nodded. "For once, I agree with you. This is delectable! I knew I was right to put faith in Christine. She is truly an angel and talented in all areas of life!" They both scarfed down the deviled eggs, not noticing that Christine had come out, holding a rather burnt-looking turkey.
"I am very sorry, but it seems I may have left the turkey in the oven for a smidgen too long. Hopefully it will still be alright, dig in!" She set the turkey in front of the both of them, although it resembled more of a big piece of coal.
Erik and Raoul gulped in unison. Erik glared at Raoul. "Trust only goes so far."
