Surprise Adoption

Christine and Raoul are back from a trip to the grocery store, and The Phantom is picking them up in his car when Christine and Raoul have some strange musings about their day...

The Phantom pulled up in his long car that was as black as night. A little figure of a monkey with cymbals hung from the rear view mirror that was very familiar. Christine and Raoul hurrieldy came out from the grocery store with a few bags in hand. Erik got out of the car to help them (well, only to help Christine.)

"Hello my angel, and..." He grimaced. "Raoul." He turned back, lovingly at Christine. "How was your trip to the supermarket?" They all piled in the car, Erik driving, Christine in the passenger's seat, and Raoul in the backseat (despite Christine's offers to sit in the back, Erik demanded Raoul sit in the back and Christine sit next to him. Erik won.) However, both Raoul and Christine seemed preoccupied with their thoughts, as they look like they needed to tell Erik something.

"Oh, it was fun! Except, well, I suppose Raoul and I were...what do they call that? Surprise adopted?" Christine mused. Erik furrowed his brows. "What?" Raoul, with a pouty expression and arms crossed, clarified, "She means kidnapped. We were almost kidnapped." Erik relaxed. "Oh, alright." A couple seconds passed before the words sank in.

He slammed his foot on the brakes rather hard, coming to a stop before he had even left the parking lot. "WAIT WHAT!?" He screamed. "What do you mean you were almost kidnapped!?" He yelled.

Christine looked scared to see him so angry, so Erik felt the need to clarify. "I wasn't yelling at you, my dear, I'm just very angry over what could've potentially happened." He reached out and held her hands in his. Raoul gagged. "Please stop being all mushy, it's out of character."

Christine smiled and squeezed his hands. "I'm very sorry to have made you worry. It was just, well...he told he was my angel of music!" Erik sighed. "Christine, angel, you know that's not true. Do you remember what happened with us?" "Yeah, they're both con men, that guy at the grocery store, and mask dude." Raoul grumbled.

"I will run you over as soon as you step out of this vehicle." Erik threatened. He turned back to Christine, awaiting an explanation. "Well, he stopped me to ask me if I had any change. I told him I had none, but we got to talking about our lives and I mentioned my father who said he would send me the angel of music, and he said that was him! He told me that he wanted to show me something my father had left for me when I died, and it was at his house, so I-"

"So she was going to follow him outside and get in his big white van." Raoul interrupted. Erik gripped the head of Christine's seat rather hard. "And where were you during all this mess, Raoul? Checking out your hair in the store's security camera!?" He growled, the big vein on his forehead throbbing.

Raoul glared at Erik. "For your information, I had seen that Christine was about to walk out of the store with this barbarian. I stopped her and talked to the man, and immediately knew he was a sketchy character." Raoul broke out of his indignant stance. "But, um, one thing led to another, and..."

Erik sighed. "Let me guess, he told you that you could become a model and he was an agent?" Raoul nodded. Erik screamed in frustration. "I am never letting you two go anywhere by yourselves again!" He promised. "What did you do to get away?"

Raoul sheepishly grinned. "Well, that's what we wanted to talk to you about. When you came into the parking lot really fast and all, you sort of, um...ran him over?" Christine nodded, concern in her eyes. "We were so surprised you didn't see! That's why we ran over here, to tell you. Shouldn't we take him to the hospital?"

Erik looked in the rearview mirror, his side mirrors, then back at Christine and Raoul. A big, evil smile had spread across his face. "I do believe we should be getting home."

He drove off without another word. He believed the man had gotten what was coming to him.
