Chapter: Twenty-Three
While the table began to discuss the Loki situation, I was able to feel her in my body, searching her way though my skin an veins. It wasn't long until I heard the whispers again. If I could jam a pencil into my ears I would, but that wasn't going to happen as I wouldn't have been able to hear what Fury and Loki were discussing over the monitor.
"Jae," Dad called my name causing me to look up and set my feet on the floor, I nodded to let him know I was fine an not to worry about me.
"Stark?" Looking over I saw Agent Maria Hill staring at me. She had her hair pulled back into a tight bun with her bangs swooped to one side. Her dark eyes staring deeply to mine, pushing past my barrier I held. "Agent Stark?" I nodded once, I had thought she was speaking to Dad until she said my title.
"Agent? Excuse me?" Dad said, spinning around on his heels.
"Surprise?" I grinned cheekily hoping to not get to much of a lecture. "I would prefer we talk about it another time Dad? It's a long story, that I really don't want to get into now. Alright?" The way I spoke showed that I wasn't going to budge on my decision. I got his stubbornness that's for damn sure. "Right now we have a situation with a man trying to take over the earth. I'm sure whatever you have to say can wait..." As harsh as I was being I didn't want to be yelled at. I slowly stepped over to a column, leaning against it. The monitor showed Loki in a cage suspended above an opening in the floor. My arms crossed over my chest so I didn't touch anyone and send them out the glass and plummeting down below us.
"The mindless beast makes play he's still a man," Loki was looking to Fury who seemed to be unafraid of what Loki is capable of, or he was just really good at hiding his emotions. "How desperate are you, that you call upon such lost creatures to defend you?" I slowly started to step off the column but when I heard Nick start to speak I stopped moving.
"How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war. You steal a force you can't hope to control. You hope to steal away anything, or anyone you want. You talk about peace and you kill, 'cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did," Nick remained so calm with Loki.
"Well, you let me know if Real Power wants a magazine or something," As Fury started to make his way towards the exit in the room, leaving Loki in his glass cage. Loki looked back to the camera, smirking. I had started to walk towards the monitor, as soon as I saw Loki smirking I stopped in my tracks.
"How is she? The little Stark?" Loki's arms folded behind his back and stared up towards the camera, his eyes seemed to be staring directly at me. I took a deep breath in, a shiver was sent up my spine. Out of the corner of my eye I saw dad stare over to me, his hands went to his side and curled to fists. "I wish to speak with the Agent Stark."
"Agent Stark, is none of your concern. You will have no contact," Loki chuckled at Fury's words even though if Loki wanted to he could just use his mind games to toy with my head again. Loki moved towards the camera that was on the monitor and I felt his eyes continue to stare deep into my soul. His gaze hypnotic almost as his eyes piercing eyes stared to mine. "She's on our side."
"You don't know that for truth. Your so called Agent Barton is a fair example of your side against my power," A grin spread across Loki's lips. "Anyways it's all the same to me, we shall see in all due time." The agent shut the monitor off, my reflection in the darkened monitor caused me to turn away.
"He really grows on you, doesn't he?" Dr. Banner spoke, finally breaking the silence, everyone was shaken over what had just taken place but they seemed fine.
"Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?" Steve asked, his eyes shifting over to Thor who hadn't even looked to the monitor screen.
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard or any world known. He means to lead them against the people of Midgard, your people. They will win him the earth, in return. I suspect, for the Tesseract," Thor gave me a hard look that made me want to just disappear, though the thought of Loki having an army frightened me.
"An army? From Outer space?" Thor nodded. "What the hell can this stupid cube do?" My words earned me an elbow from Dad, rolling my eyes afterwords I watched him check his phone for a minute before he started to walk out the door.
"So he's building another portal, and that's why he needs Erik Selvig for," Banner said, catching on. I knew the name Erik Selvig was a doctor, and he was there when Thor first came here, or so reports say.
"Selvig?" Thor asked, looking around to Banner. His arms were the size of hams as he crossed them over his chest.
"He's an Astrophysicist," I added quickly.
"He's a friend," Thor smiled at the mention that he was his friend.
"Loki has him under some kind of spell, along with one of ours," Her voice lowered and I knew she was talking about Clint, I hoped he was okay. I hadn't seen him at the Gala, but with his skills I know Loki would have had him there. Keeping a Hawk's eye on things. What could Loki be making run through Clint's head that could cause him to turn against friends.
"I wanna know why Loki let us take him, I mean he's not leading and army from here," My eyes searched the room in hopes to find answers.
"Don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats, you could smell crazy on him. I mean he was verbally provoking Agent Stark," Banner added motioning over to me, I nodded until I remembered everything that had happened.
"Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard, and he is my brother. As for Agent Stark, I apologize on my brother's behalf," I crossed my arms over my chest and sighed heavily. On the cliff they were bickering about who was the rightful king, what could one night in a glass cell to to change his mind about talking to anyone. He wanted to speak with me, what would he say to me.
"He killed eighty people in two days," Nat grumbled under her breath. "And took more than one agent hostage," Nat looked to me when she said that, I wasn't taken hostage, my own body wouldn't listen to me.
"He's adopted," Thor spoke giving that as some excuse.
"Iridium, what did they need the Iridium for?" Natasha asked, and I was going to tell her what it was for but I was beat to the punch.
"It's a stabilizing agent," Dad said walking back in with Coulson. Tony looked to me saying we would talk later, not that I would have much of a choice though. "I'll fly you there, keep the love alive. Means the portal won't collapse on itself like it did at Shield." Tony patted Thor's shoulder and continued to explain it. "No hard feelings, Point Break. You've got a mean swing. Also, it means the portal can open as wide, and stay open as long, as Loki wants," With the portal there could be no telling what he could bring to earth. "Uh, raise the mid-mast, ship the top sails..." The Agents around dad looked to him as if he was crazy, but it never stopped him before. "That man is playing Galaga! Thought we wouldn't notice. But we did," I sighed putting my head in my hands when I saw him cover one eye and looked around. "How does Fury do this?"
"He turns," Agent Hill stated as she was obviously not amused at what dad was doing.
"Well, that sounds exhausting. The rest of the raw materials, Agent Barton can get his hands on pretty easily. Only major component he still needs is a power source. A high energy density, something to kick start the cube." Tony explained.
"When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?" I asked Tony, a smirk crossing his lips for only a moment. I lowered my hands and folded my arms against my chest.
"Last night. The packet, Selvig's notes, the Extraction Theory papers. Am I the only one who did the reading?" I shrugged, I was a little more preoccupied while he was doing the reading.
"Does Loki need any particular kind of power source?" Steve asked, despite him being asleep for seventy years he was doing alright with the whole technology advancements.
"He's got to heat the cube to a hundred and twenty million Kelvin just to break through the Coulomb barrier," Dad gave me a look when Banner started talking and it made me smile. He knew I wanted to talk about it and when he motioned to me Banner looked over and I chuckled shortly.
"Well not necessarily, If Selvig has figured out to stabilize the quantum tunneling effect he could achieve heavy Ion fusion at any reactor on the planet," Tony had a proud look on his face when he looked from me to Banner. I held one of my wrists close to me and bit my lip, trying not to look to happy that I knew so much about the Coulomb barrier.
"Finally seems that you two speak English," Tony clapped his hands together, patting me on the back for a moment before I saw Steve's eyes that were wide in shock. "No need to show off Jaedyn.
"Hey I am your daughter..." He smirked cheekily. Steve motioned over to Dad and I, plus Banner. He probably had no idea what the hell we just discussed.
"Is that what just happened?" Steve asked as Tony and Banner shook hands. A glimmer in their eyes shined as the mutual respect for each other showed.
"It's good to meet you, Dr. Banner. You're work on anti-electron collisions is unparalleled. And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster," I sighed shaking my head as I was embarrassed as well as intrigued when Tony mentioned the Hulk.
"Let's start with that stick of his. It may be magical, but it works an awful lot like a Hydra weapon," Steve stepped forward and spoke.
"I don't know about that, but it is powered by the cube. And I'd like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkeys," Nick asked, catching my eyes he gave me a glare. "You shouldn't be out of bed Stark," I nodded, agreeing with him, but here I was. I quickly sat in a chair that was around the table with the Shield Logo in the center and gave Fury the same glare he had given me.
"What I want to know is why he took me? Not took, but I wasn't in control of where I was being teleported to. I mean I wasn't special until the scepter and these," I rose my hands up showing the bracelets. I paused trying to think of what to say next, finally reaching the right word I continued. "What the hell did he do to me?"
"Fury," Dad interrupted me and took strong strides over to him. "Wanna explain why my daughter is an Agent? Which ends now by the way," Tony said the last sentence pointing to me.
"No way in hell," I muttered under my breath.
"Excuse me?" Dad said, turning from Fury looking to me. A shocked expression covered his face, "Last I checked I'm your father."
"Look. I was brought into this when you became Iron Man. But currently, I was brought into this when I was attacked and given abilities. Like it or not Father. I'm here. I'm helping." Tony was too stunned to speak, or shoot a comeback at me which I was grateful for.
"Stubborn kid," I sat down in a chair and rubbed my eyes briefly.
"Where do I get that from?" I shot back at him. "I blackmailed Natasha during the whole Ivan situation, then when I had nerve damage in my arm Fury visited me. We settled on an agreement and I began training after physical therapy," I motioned to Natasha and Fury. "Natasha trained me in combat, Clint taught me how to use a bow..."
"Christ Fury! You think this is a good idea? I mean she's a kid, my kid!" Dad moved to walk closer to Fury but when dad saw the other agents take a step towards him he stopped in his tracks.
"She wanted to be apart of something bigger, she didn't want to be helpless anymore." Fury stated and looked over to me, while he was looking at me. Dad took a second before he snapped.
"Doesn't mean you let her go around doing missions for you dammit!"
"Enough!" I cried out. Standing up when I yelled the chair was shot back to the wall with my energy causing it to almost break. "My choice, I'm an adult if you hadn't checked. I turned Eighteen when Loki attacked me. So I better damn well have the choice in my decision making. I'm tired of having my life drawn out for me," Stepping to my dad I made sure he was looking into my eyes. "I'm tired of watching you almost die, I want to be able to fend for myself, Ivan damaged me, Obadiah damaged me. I will not be damaged again. You want to know something Tony," I looked to Phil who was standing against the wall giving me a look like I shouldn't talk.
"Jaedyn..." He said my name lowly, trying to stop me but I put my hand up, shutting him up.
"That vigilante you see on the news or hear things about? Wonder why I'm always tired? Or why I always sleep all day? I drink to much coffee and I miss Stark Enterprise Functions?" I kept asking questions because I wasn't gonna give up the chance for him to respond.
"Your out being something your not? You think you can just put on a costume and stop some crimes as if its that easy Jaedyn," Tony shot back at me, I focused on the spot in front of him and clenched my hands tightly in a flash of light I was in front of him.
"You do it, and you use to be so drunk you couldn't even recognize me," I released a heavy breath and narrowed my glare to him. "If you can do it, how hard can it be," I rolled my eyes and spun on my heels and made my way towards the door.
"Jaedyn Maria!" He said my middle name, his mothers name, I was in trouble now.
"Oh shut up!" I yelled, not meaning to raise my hand and bring it down quickly. The energy shot off my hand in the motion that it swung down sending a wave to Tony. He shot back onto the floor, hitting the wall. I realized what I had done then I grabbed my hand quickly pulling it against my chest. I took a deep breath and when I opened my hand there was a little diamond of blue light forming there. I picked it out of my hand and when I let it go, it expanded.
The hall where I broke the door off it's hinges still remained there, and it was inside this blue diamond that had expanded into a portal. When I saw other agents start to come towards me I took one last look around the room. Dad scattered on the floor, gripping the back of his head, Natasha talking to Fury a few yards away from me. Steve had stood up and was in shock. Bruce and Phil were against the wall getting out of the way of the other agents. I stepped through the portal and it closed immediately afterwords. When I looked back down to my hand, the scar on my palm shined brightly then it faded and I felt the energy start to fill my body again. Something was wrong.

Here's another chapter of Phantom.
I also have done another video, it's not as elaborate as the other, but I would still appreciate some feedback on both the Chapter and the Video if you have time.
This chapter isn't as long because I have Midterms, and Essays due for my classes. Though I hope you enjoy it.
