Chapter: Twenty-One
The jet shook from all the thunder that this storm was brewing. I tried not to move to much as my whole body felt like it was trying to claw itself out from inside of me. I held my knees to my chest with the blanket covering my legs, my eyes hadn't left my hands. I was able to see the dim blue light underneath the scar on my palm. I could feel Loki's eyes still on me but I refused to meet his, I just wanted to wake up from this nightmare. I knew he was cuffed to his seat but I was still uneasy being in the same room as him. I slowly looked up and towards the cockpit seeing both my dad and the Captain chatting in hushed whispers, watching from a distance.
"Young Stark," I gripped my head, whimpering slightly. "My darling Jaedyn." I dropped my hands and my eyes shot across the hanger to look at Loki. A smirk crossed his lips before I sighed heavily standing up, smoothing my dress out. I hadn't bothered to put the heels back on, so I was forced to step on the metal floor over towards the two men. Almost stumbling into the wall when the jet was hit with turbulence because of the storm.
"Fury didn't tell me he was calling you in." Steve said, and I could tell by the way each stood there was already a rivalry brewing between the two.
"Yeah, there's a lot of things Fury doesn't tell you." Dad retorted to him, an after he spoke lightning nearly hit the jet. Natasha had to swerve the jet in time to miss it. This time my feet did stumble over each other and I fell onto the steel floor, I groaned irritated. Dad extended his hand to me, and moved me over to the wall. "You alright?" I nodded.
"Where's this coming from?" Natasha asked, looking to the co-pilot. I gripped the netting along the wall to steady myself enough to not fall again. When I caught the eyes of Loki he seemed to be almost scared.
"What's the matter? Scared of a little lightning?" My voice came out quiet instead of it's usual confident sound, the whole situation had me rattled to say the least.
"We both should not be overly fond of what follows, Darling Jaedyn." I rolled my eyes, speaking in riddles isn't gonna help him. A flash caught my attention by the window, when I looked outside at the wing. I could have sworn I saw a silhouette of a man.
"Call me Darling again, I dare you," I threatened him giving a sharp glare, his eyes only matched the glare. Moments after our eyes broke contact I felt the ripples under my skin, and the Captain had nudged my dad. Dad's metal hand touched my shoulder and I took a deep calming breath. He had moved over to the back door, opening it. When it opened a man dropped from above the door. Long golden hair, large muscles that stood out easily even though he was wearing armor, a bright red cape draped behind him. As dad came over with all of his suit on the man swung a hammer at him, easily getting sent back. Afterwords he gripped Loki by his throat and tore off the lock that kept him stationary. Steve, Dad and I were left dumbstruck as the man flew off the jets ram and into the dark an stormy sky. "What the hell?!"
"Now there's that guy," Dad groaned getting to his feet, slowly I made my way over to the edge of the ramp. My eyes looking out an over the edge to see the world pass us by quickly. "Jae, get over here."
"Another Asgardian?" Natasha called back to us all, slowly I made my way over to my dad, he was getting ready to leave after the blonde guy who took Loki.
"Think the guy's a friendly?" Dad asked, pushing me into a seat.
"Doesn't matter. If he frees Loki or kills him, the Tesseract's lost." I looked up from the chair and dad moving over to the edge of the jet, sure I didn't like him going after two guys, who we hardly know anything about. Both who seem to be extremely powerful, but I wasn't going to be able to stop him that's for sure.
"Stark, we need a plan of attack!" Steve yelled after Dad, but he had already closed his face mask.
"I have a plan. Attack." I groaned and rubbed my eyes seeing dad chase after the two men. The Captain went to grab a parachute to follow, my stomach started to spin an grabbed my stomach. The stabbing feeling was back and it wouldn't leave any time soon.
"I'd sit this one out, Cap." Natasha called back to us, turning her head back to us.
"I don't see how I can." Steve said, fixing the straps of the parachute.
"These guys come from legends, they're basically gods," Natasha flipped a few switches that stabilized the jet. I groaned getting to my feet, making my way over to the edge for fresh air. I grabbed the edge of the jet and took a few deep breaths. As I looked out onto the night sky, I felt my body start to lose consciousness. I wanted to move backwards but before I was able to I lost hold of the bar and slipped off. "Jaedyn!" Natasha's voice echoed down to me.
Falling, I'm falling... I tried to scream but nothing came out. The crisp air rushing through my hair and I could hardly breathe anymore. I was watching the whole world pass me by so fast. I focused on the energy within me and felt it crawl under my skin, making it from my hands to the center of my chest. Clenching my eyes tightly shut I felt my body hit the ground hard, and I gasped rolling to a stop. I opened my eyes and saw the whole sky of stars above me almost seem to be spinning. The blue energy caused some of the rocks started to float above me, I layed on my back staring at the sky.
"Where is the Tesseract?!" A voice exclaimed to, whom I'm guessing was Loki as I could hear him laughing. My mind realized where I was, on the side of a mountain. Taking multiple deep breaths I calmed myself before I pushed up off the rocks tat were digging into my side. These guys could probably smell the fear on me from miles away. After I recovered from the fall I crawled over slowly over to the edge of the cliff, looking over to Loki and the blonde man.
"I missed you too," Loki was laughing again, sitting up straighter against a rock, He was still cuffed but I knew that was for good reason.
"Do I looked to be in a gaming mood?!" He glared harshly and I could see the tension between the two of them.
"Oh, you should thank me. With the Bifrost gone how much dark energy did the Allfather have to muster to conjure here? Your precious Earth!" There was a low chuckle from Loki that caused the blonde man to drop the same hammer that he hit my dad with. The hammer dropping had caused the mountain to rumble, what was that Hammer made out of? He picked Loki up easily by his shirt, I was able to see that he was pissed but he hadn't hurt him.
"I thought you dead," His voice softened only for a moment before Loki interrupted him. I covered my mouth because the way the blonde man spoke seemed to say that they were almost close.
"Did you mourn?" Loki asked, the way he spoke was like venom piercing the skin. My chest started to tighten again and with the energy surging though my body I held my breath in hopes to hold it all in. My hands covered my mouth so I didn't interrupt what they were discussing.
"We all did... Our father," The other began, but Loki interrupted him.
"Your Father," My eyes widened, the power slowing fading away. My hands dropped as I got more control of whatever it was inside of me. "He did tell you of my true parentage, did he not?" The red caped one let go of Loki which only caused an even bigger wedge between the two men.
"We were raised together, we played together, we fought together. Do you remember none of that?" I watched as the men seemed to yell back and forth to each other.
"I remember a shadow. Living in the shadow of your greatness. I remember you tossing me into an abyss. I was and should be king!" Loki yelled loudly looking to the man, I could see there was something there but I didn't know what. I was starting to piece it together though, as time passed it became clear to me.
"Then you miss the truth of ruling, brother. Throne would suit you ill. You would have been better to controlled with the throne." The blonde one spoke. Loki was obviously pissed, shoving Loki to the side, walking over to the ledge for a moment before turning around looking back.
"I've seen worlds you've never known about! I have grown, Odinson, in my exile! I have seen the true power of the Tesseract, and when I wield it..." Odinson was the key word, for sure it was Thor and Loki from Norse mythology, oh Christ...
"Who showed you this power? Who controls the would-be-king?" Loki had such ambition and Lust for the power. I could see it in his eyes.
"I am a King!" Loki yelled to Thor.
"Not here! You give up this poisonous dream and you come home." Thor's voice was loud enough to shake the mountain we were on. I had to grip the rocks as I leaned over so I didn't go tumbling down towards the two of them.
"I don't have it. You need the cube to bring me home, but I've sent it off I know not where." The hammer that Thor had set onto the ground had flew from the ground to his hand, he rose it high as if to hit Loki.
"You listen well, brother. I-..." Thor spoke, but he was suddenly knocked off the mountain by Tony flying through and tackling Thor off the mountain.
"I'm listening..." Loki chuckled after he sat back down onto the ground. I slowly stood up walking towards him, sliding down the loose gravel. Stopping suddenly when I heard Loki speak once more. "Did you enjoy our conversation young Stark."
"You knew-" He nodded catching me off guard. His hands rose, beckoning me to slowly make my way down the rocky cliff. "Your brother," I pointed to the way where dad and Thor landed. "Thor. Isn't happy to see you." I glanced over the edge of the cliff seeing Dad and Thor fighting on the ground. Thor rose his hand and swung his hammer, summoning a ray of lighting down at my dad. I had gasped and felt the air around me get crisp as my lungs sharply took in a breath. The blast knocked him back to the ground, my eyes met Loki. He was amused at the situation a wild grin crossing his lips. Dad shot him back with the repulsors and it was then I knew that this wasn't going to stop. Both seemed to have egos, bigger than Thor's arms. My hand was grabbed, and I was gently pulled back down into the cliff, sitting. Loki's hands cold, despite him being handcuffed twice. He seemed to be exactly where he wanted to be, his hand ghosted over my palm. Under my skin I felt the crackling of the energy reacting to his touch. His eyes saw the scar across my palm, but when I tried to pull my hand away he just gripped it firmly. His index finger ghosting across the scar, causing the energy to form around my palm, the scarring glowing dimly.
"Do you feel this?" I nodded slowly, watching the power grow and move up my arm and around my body. I let out a deep sigh, feeling almost relaxed. "This power, you wield. Can do so much more than you may realize."
"How... How do you know this?" My voice was barely above a whisper and when he turned my hand over, letting my finger tips brush against the gravel. I watched as the ground around my hand began to glow, it spread out, covering rocks and our sitting bodies. It felt almost effortless, like I knew what I was doing. In some way, I did. I was creating this energy from my body, making us levitate up off the cliff.
"You are so gifted Jaedyn. More than you know," Loki's voice caused chills along my already cold body, his hand move up my arm and rested on my cheek. I turned away but his fingers had gripped my chin softly and I was forced to look into his eyes. We rose higher in the air to the point if I was to extend my legs I wouldn't be touching the ground. I could see almost ever detail on Loki, his blue eyes, pale skin almost snow-like. Dark raven hair slicked back, but it was scattered, as he was just flying through the sky. We were too close, I closed my eyes and extended my hand out to him and shot myself the other way. Both of us falling and sliding across the cliff. I sat up rubbing my palm an looking over the side of the cliff. Seeing both Thor and my father still going at it. Thor summoned Mjölnir, his hammer, back to his hand and just as he was about to slam the hammer onto Iron Man's chest dad used his hand to boost himself across the ground. It looked similar to what I had just done to Loki, but mine was from within me, his was a piece of technology he could take off. He tripped Thor during the boost away and stood up. Thor had searched for my dad but he had crashed into his back sending him forward once more, rolling to a stop. Thor stood slowly, facing dad. The look in his eyes was anger and he wasn't going to stop going after him.
"This... This needs to end," I sighed, getting to my bare feet I focused on the pine needle covered ground.
"Focus Jaedyn," Loki's voice was soft, out of the corner of my eyes I saw him standing behind me. Doing the best I could I closed my eyes, ignoring him. Taking a deep breath I felt energy engulfed my body, and I felt the needles pricking against my feet. Opening my eyes, I was met with Iron Man taking a step back in shock. Looking over my shoulder I spotted Thor, looking dumbfounded.
"Quit this now, you two are acting like children," I spun on my feet to face Thor. "Do not take it out on Tony." He took a few steps toward me, advancing into a better position.
"I've come here to put an end to Loki's schemes!" He yelled, swinging the hammer. His aim not to me, but passed me at Dad. I took a step towards him, the pine needles and rocks started to shift and rise up off the ground. When Thor rose his hammer I rose my hand and that's when I saw Steve climb up to a higher position on a rock to address us all.
"Then prove it! Put the hammer down!" Steve's voice bellowed down to us.
"Um, yea, no. Bad call! He loves his hammer," Dad yelled over, and I saw him moving slowly towards Thor.
"You want me to put the hammer down?!" Thor asked, swinging the hammer. When he let it go, it flew passed me, causing my hair to go even crazier and it slammed Dad through a few trees before he skidded to a stop on the ground.
"Dad!" I yelled after him, when I saw him stumble slowly to his feet. I turned back to Thor, he had summoned his hammer back and was waiting. "Now your in for it..." My voice low, slightly echoing. Next thing I knew my hand had clenched to a fist, and my arm had pulled back aiming at Thor. I wasn't fully aware of how much power I truly held until then. I punched the air in front of me, sending a blast of blue energy towards Thor, he was lifted up off his feet and slammed back, hitting the side of the mountain. Causing a ripple effect to knock rocks loose off of it. I could see Thor struggling to walk forward but I just drew my fist back once again and hit the air again. Another blast slamming him. My nose was beginning to run so I used my non-dominant hand to wipe under it, seeing blood.
"Jaedyn Enough!" I heard dad yell to me, he had flown over and grabbed my shoulder. In a quick glance an turn of my head, he was sent back to where he had landed when Thor's hammer hit him. I had no control. A high pitch screech in my ears caused me to cringe and narrow my eyes to keep the energy focused on Thor. His own strength was enough to push against the energy against him. "Jae!"
"Let go," The echoing version of my own voice spoke to me, making my body feel weightless. "Let. Go..." I clenched my eyes shut tightly, not wanting to give into my own thoughts. Suddenly my arms were gripped tightly, my hand dropped instantly when I was gripped. The echoing of my own thoughts came to an abrupt stop, my eyes opened slowly. Loki was standing in front of me, my body collapsing into his. Although he was handcuffed, he did his best to steady me. My eyes looking to the other three gentlemen, the Captain looked the most shocked to see what I could do. Thor had looked to his brother, and Loki just narrowed his eyes to him. Thor brushed off whatever dirt had gotten on his armor and summoned his hammer once more. Dad finally came over and pushed Loki off of me, grabbing me himself, Steve had gripped Loki's shoulder tightly.
"When did you come to have these abilities young one?" Thor asked, I didn't respond and with dad's look I shouldn't respond at all. "I shall ask once more, when did you-"
"A few days ago, on my birthday, okay?" I spat out rather quickly, groaning as I wiped the blood off my upper lip.
"Jaedyn, enough," Steve ordered me, and I nodded slowly. Dad helped me walk, being the protective father for now. Motioning over to the Jet that had landed a little ways away, Steve handed Loki off to Thor and made his away ahead. I didn't want to be carried but when I pleaded and told Dad I was able to walk fine. He told me to walk and then I fell to a knee, only proving his point. He picked me up afterwords and huffed a heavy sigh. As he carried me a pounding headache wouldn't leave my mind. When dad let me step onto the jet I stumbled down onto the seats and Natasha saw me, seeing how exhausted I looked.
"Stark, are you alright? What happened?" She asked, seeing Thor seat Loki across from me. I was able to curl into a ball and hold my knees close to my chest. Natasha saw she wasn't going to get anything out of me so she left my side and went over to Steve. They spoke quietly to each other, and the two of them looked from me then back to each other, they were discussing me.
"Agent Romanoff, let the kid rest. She just shook a mountain," I heard Steve utter loud enough for me to hear. Grinning shortly afterwords I noticed Loki staring at me. Meeting his eyes only for a moment I layed down on the seats ignoring the fact that I shouldn't be laying down on the jet.
"It's as I said, you are more powerful than you realize," Loki's voice was low and almost frightening. Thor gave him a look that was basically telling him to shut his mouth. As Dad came over, out of his armor, in jeans and a black tee, he had this worried look that reminded me of when I was in the hospital for my arm, and hand. Turning my palm over I saw the blue line seeping through my scar, closing it tightly I tried to forget about it all together. It was horrible, and now I'm dangerous, even more with this gift inside of me.
"Keep his mouth shut or I will." I heard Tony's voice threaten Loki, and then I felt his hand touch my shoulder. I flinched I thought I would send him to the other wall. But there was no rumbling within me, as far as I could tell everything was stationary. "Jae..."
"What's happening to me Dad?" I mumbled, his eyes were soft, filled with concern for me. I couldn't understand what was happening to me, all I knew was that it was because of Loki's scepter. Maybe I was becoming a slave to him, like how Clint is.
"I-I don't know princess..." He sighed and my eyes closed again, accidentally letting a tear fall down my cheek. "Hey..." I didn't open my eyes when he started to continue but I did listen. "I won't stop until I can understand what is happening to you, just... Be patient Jaedyn..." I nodded caving to what he was saying. I knew he wouldn't give up, Stark's don't give up. He kissed the top of my head before smoothing out my hair and moving away from me. I tucked my arms into my sides hoping not to touch anyone and hurting them. I could hear them mumbling things, I heard my name only once before I could feel their eyes on me. I shook my head and motioned them to continue if they must, holding my head firmly I tried to ignore them. After a few minutes of resting my eyes sleep took me. Fear is an illusion, I know of these well. As soon as you realize this, you will be free young Stark. My eyes shot open and I felt it start to swell in me again. I whimpered gripping my head, whispering to myself.
"Stop... Just stop please..."
"Stop what, Lady Stark?" I heard Thor speak, he must have heard me.
"Make your brother stop speaking to me, in my head..." I said sitting up, the jet starting to shake, I grabbed the edge of my seat and focused on staring to Loki. "Stop it..."
"Jaedyn... Are you doing this?" I heard Romanoff speaking from the co-pilot seat back to me.
"Do you think this is a game? Toying with someones mind?!" I yelled, the electrical currents in the jet started to malfunction and the lights started to flicker. "It's not!" I yelled, and watched as Thor and Loki struggled to not move in their seats. Stop what? You think that it's him? "Quit it!" I yelled once more.
"I am not doing anything. Couldn't if I wanted to. I'm afraid, someone else is affecting your mind," Loki spoke monotone and looked to Thor. "Honest."
"Jaedyn the jet," I heard Steve speak, holding onto the bar next to his seat, to stable himself. I took a deep breath and focused on letting everything return to normal. The lights were on and no longer flickering off, and we were steady. I looked to Loki and his face seemed to say he was saying the truth.
"He is not the one affecting you Young One." I looked to the window seeing my reflection, I craved fresh air instead of being trapped in this flying death trap. I saw myself but something wasn't as it should be. I looked to my reflections eyes and saw a bright blue flash over them then back to their normal Hazel color. "I am." The other me was smirking while I was understanding that I was really seeing this. My head was suddenly heavy and I stumbled over my own footing falling to the floor of the Jet. That got everyone's attention, I layed down and felt my eyes roll back into my head before I could hear others speaking my name. Calling out for me to listen and come back to them. I couldn't focus on anything but that overwhelming feeling of sleep I needed.
It then hit me.
I wasn't alone in my own body.
