Chapter: Three
My arms were crossed and I sat on a seat in the jet, we were flying high in the sky. Yet I can't enjoy the fact of that because I was still getting lectured. "Jaedyn Maria! Are you listening to me!? You stealing the car and driving off like that was not the right thing to do. That was irresponsible! And right after the senate meeting, I mean what were you thinking?"
"All I'm listening to is a bunch of bullshit. If that's what your saying, yes I'm listening to it." I shot up off the jet chair, looking to him. I was livid at the fact he had the nerve to lecture me on being irresponsible. Pepper and Happy both looked to me, their eyes wide seeing me snap. "I don't understand why your so upset," I began throwing my hands up. "You have done ten times worse, hell you've been flying around being a hero in a suit of metal."
"Jaedyn where has all of this come fro-" I cut him off as soon as he started.
"Shut up, just shut up and listen for once!" My hands clenched shut tightly, nails digging into my palms. "Ever since you got back all you have done is ignore me. All you do is party! Or fight bad guys!" Pepper's hand had moved to dad's shoulder, as if saying, I'm here to support you.
"Jaedyn, I think you should just take a breath an sit dow-" Happy tried ushering me to a seat, but I shook off his grip and stood my ground.
"No!" I shouted, it caused Pepper to give me the glare that could shut dad up the moment he saw it. "I don't want to sit down, I just want to say what I have to say and get rid of it all. Everything on my mind, every minor detail. Me driving away with a car, is hardly bad. You have done so much worse. You barely act like father!" The look on Dad's face, hurt me. But I was fuming with emotions, I hated it. Everyone had rushed to defend him. I shook my head quickly moving passed everyone. Moving to the back of the jet, I grabbed a bottle of champagne from the cart and took a seat at the window. Pepper motioning to Happy, he started to walk over to me. I popped the cork and took a drink, it almost spilling on me as he took it away. The courts were right, he wasn't there. I could do what I wanted almost always. I shot up once more grabbing an empty glass that was also on the cart. "Screw you! Better yet, screw all of you. You're all on his side! Always have been, always will be! You of all people Anthony Stark don't get to lecture me on being Irresponsible." My muscles acted before I had a chance to think about what I was doing. The glass in my hand quickly was thrown across the jet and hit the back of Dad's chair, he hadn't even flinched. The glass shattered and fell to the floor, plopping myself in the chair I pulled my legs up into my chair and buried my head in my knees.
I don't know how long I had sat like that all I know is that when I was brought back to reality, my face was tear stained and my makeup had ran. I'm sure what had happened would be brought up again some time shortly, and I would be yelled at again. All I wanted to do now was sleep in my own bed, I need to sleep for a few days.
"Look Tony," Pepper began, I kept my mouth shut and wiped away the running mascara, listening in. "I get that your still processing what happened but we need to get through some of the things on this list." That list never ended, a to do list Pepper had so she could keep dad focused. My outburst certainly didn't help that situation though.
"I'm Iron Man, Okay?" Dad blurted out, seeming to only be more stupid than the last time he had said that. I didn't know what was going on with him, but I wanted it to stop.
"Well okay Iron Man. could we maybe-"
"You don't know what that means. You didn't make the suit." Childish. As of lately I felt like the parent and he the child.
"We'll cancel Monaco," Pepper just rolled her eyes and continued. I had completely forgotten about that, every year we went to Monaco because dad had a racer for stark industries race the Circuit de Monaco. The race was fun an all but I wasn't really in the mood to go across the globe to sit and watch some race, I wanted to be doing something productive. Through there were many good memories in Monaco, watching the race cars fly by the windows and listen to the roar of the engines. Plus the smell of burnt rubber stayed on my clothes for days to come. I would normally enjoy the annual trip, but not this year, I didn't want to go. I didn't want to go away from my home, plus we had problems plaguing us.
"No we need that." Pepper picked up her clipboard and pen, writing a few notes. It was moments like this, her eager to write something down, that made me wonder how she could put up with us. I could hardly put up with dad's actions 365 days a year, how did she do it? Pepper went to interject him but he continued. "If not for me, then Jae. She needs a distraction."
"Tony..."
"Let's move onto my birthday." He moved on quickly. I didn't want to interject with my opinion because I couldn't get through to him right now, not after my outburst. Every year dad though this huge party at the house for his birthday. Dad's ways were slowly creeping back into our lives and I was not having it. So his birthday I think would be an exception to that, though I didn't want to ask him to change it. I had asked him to do something special on my birthday, so if he wanted to do something on his birthday that was extravagant I couldn't say no. I had hoped the changes he made after coming back from Afghanistan were permanent. They weren't they had hardly lasted. This year was going to the same if not worse than his last birthday.
"We could do something small or with all the press just ca-" Pepper had made a fatal mistake of trying to cancel something dad was excited for.
"Cancel?" He sat up straighter looking over to Pepper. "Here's something I want you to answer me Miss Potts, why cancel the celebration of the day of my birth?"
"My mistake. We'll celebrate it at the house." Pepper wrote a small note on her board before looking over to me, she had known I was listening in, of course. "Jaedyn, People magazine called, wanting an interview an cover photo of you. They've doubled their offer again." I rolled my eyes and she sighed seeing as both dad and I were gonna not work with her today.
"You know I like them." Dad said, still not turning to me.
"Because they named you sexiest man alive four times now." I groaned sinking into my chair. "That's the last thing I want to happen right now Pepper, I don't want a stupid interview just so they can ask me about Iron Man."
"I'm just saying I think you should consider it, along with a lot of other things." Her voice now extremely professional, I hated when she did that, it was hard to say no. "Your father, has a lot of good press going on, and his daughter on one of the most popular magazines will increase both your images. Plus you haven't done an interview so it will be a good place to start. You have so many achievements already, why not start getting yourself out there."
"So what would happen?" I asked grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge and the moving back to my seat.
"They'd ask you to talk about your life. Obviously wanting to talk about your father and his suit. But I'd expect them to talk about you being the heiress to a multi-billion dollar company, your love life, your childhood," My eyes went to the back of dad's chair. I had a good childhood, but dad wasn't really in it. So Pepper raised me a lot of the time, and I would just hang out at the office or at home waiting around and playing with whatever toy dad had got me to try and distract me. For not wanting his childhood on his child, he's kinda mimicking his father. "Then take some pictures and that would be it."
"Fine," I grumbled. "Let them know I'm interested."
"Alright. I'll have it on your schedule." Pepper gave me a smile and I closed my eyes concentrating on the fact that I'm going home and everything would be okay. At least for now.
I spent the following morning in my room watching reports on what happened with the senate. His daughter stole the car, his daughter talked to the senate, Hammer and Stark industries rivalry, all of it showed some recording. Throwing away my takeout box I shut off the television and made my way down to the kitchen for something to drink. The house was dead silent besides the clicking of heels stepping upon the stairs.
"Hey Pepper." I mumbled tossing the empty box. I turned over to her seeing her mouth agape in shock. "Pepper?"
"Mr Stark. He made me-" She said softly stopping herself. "He made me his successor." I stopped moving and realized what she had just said. Was this some sort of joke? Am I not to be the CEO? What was going to happen when I was ready to take over? Would she just hand it over willingly?
"Congratulations Pepper." I smiled to her, the smile forced yet I was happy for her. At least I tried to be.
"Jae of course you'll be taking over when your older." She gasped seeing the look in my eyes. "I'd never take that away from you."
"Don't worry, I'm totally not ready for it now." I forced a laugh and stretched my arms out in front of me. "Anyways, I'm gonna go back to sleep. Night Pepper..." I felt her eyes on me as I went back up the stairs. As much as I wanted to think that dad was doing this to punish me by doing that, I hope that it wasn't. I collapsed on my bed with a groan, why was I so upset. I hoped that dad was doing that because he knew neither of us were okay to take over the industries. I studied the ceiling for a good time before I came to the conclusion that I was being ridiculous. At least dad had appointed someone who was responsible, Pepper could handle it. She deserved the promotion. I rubbed my eyes feeling cramped, I couldn't stand this place. I couldn't stay here, I couldn't breathe. Standing up off the bed I walked over to my closet throwing out clothes finding an outfit. Finally I stopped at a beaded pearl black bustier crop top and found some distressed mid-rise black denim shorts. I dug deep into the back of my closet grabbing a pair of black peep toed heel sandals. Looking at my phone I realized it was 9:38 pm. Meaning I could still reach a rave party anytime I wanted to right now, with one phone call Jaedyn Stark could be on the top of a parties list. I held heels in hand and quickly stepped down the stairs and out the door to where Happy was leaning against the car. Off to the , to take my mind off of everything of course.
"Uhh, Hello Miss Stark. Where- where would you want to go?" He asked putting away his phone and looking to me. Taking note of my clothes most likely.
"Take me out to some club. I don't care. One of the ones that Tony went to when he wasn't Iron Man. I want to go to have some fun." He nodded and opened the door for me, I slid into the black car. The door shut behind me and I kept my eyes glued at my house. "Do not tell Tony that your taking me clubbing." He nodded and we drove in silent till we arrived at the nightclub. Cameras flashing from the paparazzi, and that would surely mean I was gonna be on a cover of something tomorrow. I walked down the line and got smiles and glares from all the people waiting in the line. Moving to the front the bouncer saw me and opened the velvet rope for me. I leaned on my heels and kissed the bouncers cheek grinning. For once in my life I had that adrenaline kick I have been searching for. Opening the door it was filled with lively music that made everyone's hips sway. I hadn't even gotten a few feet in the door when I realized everyone was covered in black light body paint. It was gonna be a fun night for sure.
At the bar I ordered a drink Tony would also get, a Tequila Sunrise. It woke him up and got him drunk. So hopefully I'll be up and drunk for the next few hours. I had to nearly pay triple for what others paid because I am a minor and of course my dad being Iron man and the powerful suit he controls is a threat at times.
"Your Jaedyn... Jaedyn Stark aren't you?" I heard my name and spun to see a dark haired man, wearing a shirt unbuttoned to much. I nodded and put my drink down looking over to him. "I thought so, your the only girl in here who isn't up grinding on some guy, though aren't you too young to be in here?"
"What are you gonna do? Tell on me? Cause I'm sure that will end well." I took another drink, turning back towards the bar, trying to ignore the man.
"What's it like?" He paused before sitting next to me. "Being Stark's daughter an all?" I sighed heavily, before downing the rest of the drink, it burned going down my throat. After I finished it I stood up balancing myself on the counter before I took a step over toward the dance floor. My eyes caught by black light glow paint, swaying over to the bottles of paint I picked up a blue paint brush and turned to the guy.
"Do you want to talk about my Dad, or do you want to paint my ?" His eyes widened and he hopped off the seat extra excited. I chuckled and held the paint brush out to him. Taking the paint brush, he put one hand on my hip and knelt down starting at my ankle and moving up my leg, then starting at then end of my shorts down to my ankle, swirling the paintbrush around my leg. I inhaled sharply and grinned as he moved up towards my stomach dipping the paintbrush into the red liquid and making a swirl on my stomach, after words he put little dots along the swirl. My body shivering to the touch, He then dipped the pain in the blue once more along my arms, drawing on my palms then fingertips. Afterwords over my collar bone then up to my neck, I took the red paint and applied it to my lips, grabbing the back of his neck I slammed my lips on his and kissed him. I could feel my head spinning, most likely from the alcohol, yet if felt good to be able to be stupid for once. I moved over towards the dance floor and held his hand dragging him along with me. His hands on my hips as we swayed together, spinning around my back against his chest he began to move up over my stomach and then up towards the bottom part of my shirt. Now this was starting to get a little out of my comfort zone. With the loud music coming from the speakers I don't believe that he heard me. I grabbed his hand and moved it a bit lower but he was much stronger than I and he moved his hand fully up and on my breast. I pushed him off of me and he gave me a sharp look.
"Get your hands off of her!" I recognized a voice and looked over to Happy who had then shoved the guy. Next thing I know Happy swings at the guy, and I'm being dragged out by my forearm and tossed into the back of the car. I slid over to the opposite side of the car and Happy got into the drivers seat taking off down the road. The ride was quiet, I could feel Happy's eyes looking to me, in such disappointment. "I won't speak of this to your father, but if he asks I will."
"I just don't care any more Happy..." I mumbled and rested my head against the car window, "Do what you want, tell Tony if you want." I sighed looking out the window waiting till I was home. I opened the door stumbling out of the car. I ripped off the heels and walked inside the house. I ignored Pepper looking to me when I walked into the house and I ignored her calling my name, I just went to my room and shut the door, locking it of course. Walking over to the bathroom I washed off all of the paint and disgust I felt on my skin. What was I thinking, I was just full of anger. I put my hair up in a bun and and threw on a large shirt with some shorts before I went over to my bed and flopped on it. Covering my head with blankets and yelling into my pillow, why was I so stupid!
The next few days seemed to fly by ask so much was going on, Pepper running the company and looking for dad's new PA. I wasn't gonna like her as I liked Pepper that's for sure. Dad wasn't making it easy for her either, finding small things about the ten interviewed ones. I dawned a black shirt and a pair of shorts before I made my way down the steps. I heard Happy and Dad, meaning they were in the gym. Walking in I'm stunned to see a woman slam Happy into the ground of the boxing ring, his head in-between her . I took a seat on a chair and leaned closer as I watched the woman, my eyes following her when she released him and got to her feet.
"That my new babysitter? If so I like her." I chuckled shortly, and when she came over to us I shut my mouth instantly. Deep red hair and eyes that seemed to analyze me, she wore a white button up blouse and black slacks. Her shoes in hand, I gently smiled to her.
"This is Natalie Rushman from legal, whose here to complete the company papers for me. And your father told her to get in the ring and get a lesson from Happy," I looked to dad raising an eyebrow seeing him in his boxing gear.
"More like Happy can take a lesson from her," I grinned watching Happy stumbled out of the ring still getting himself back together.
"Great, just wrapping up," Dad said to the woman, pointing to the papers. "You're the boss." Natalie closed the file and purposefully swung her hair over her shoulder looking to dad.
"Will that be all Mr. Star?" Natalie asked, my eyes not leaving her for a moment.
"No-"
"Yes, that will be all, Miss Rushman. Thank you very much." Pepper smiled, interrupting dad, and the smile she flashed. Well I had seen her use it on dad one nighters. Miss Rushman only had one thing to do now, leave. When she stared into my eyes I saw something was off with her, I had no reason to back my opinion but I knew something was off. Why does she know how to body slam someone? Yes it's good that she knows how to defend herself of course, but damn.
"I want one," Dad said looking up to Pepper who was standing over him.
"No," Was all she replied to him.
"So she can get in the ring but I can't?" I sighed and rubbed my eyes. I wove off the moment and made my way towards the kitchen.
"Don't think your little incident hasn't gone un-noticed by me little lady!" Tony yelled to me, "It was all over the news early the other morning." I stopped in the hallway and I sighed knowing I would end up paying for it later...
With holidays dad and I did the same thing, put off packing till the last minute. The night before we left for Monaco, my suitcase was by my closet waiting to be stuffed with my things. Making my way down the steps I walked down into the kitchen for something to snack on, meeting eyes with the red head who came here earlier today. Did Dad? No, she wasn't in one of his shirts. Like the others who stayed here were. She had the same outfit on. She had a phone up to her ear that confused me, because when I leaned against the fridge. Knocking on the door caused her to spin around towards me, grabbing a gun from who knows where and aiming it at me. I put my hands up and stopped breathing.
"Holy Hell..." I mumbled moving back against the fridge. "Who are you?"
"I'll have to call you back sir. No It's fine." She shut off her phone then put the gun away. "What are you doing here?"
"I live here," I said sarcastically. She sighed and quickly made sure no one else was around us, moving towards me slowly.
"Say anything about this and I could make you disappear, not even your father would be able to find you. Do I make myself clear?" I nodded and stood completely still afraid to move. "Good. You remember when Agent Coulson came and spoke to you and your father for a cover story? Well I'm with the same organization. But as a different role."
"Why are you here? Are you here to take my Dad away? No, are you here to take the suit away?" I said quickly in a hushed whisper.
"Enough with the questions alright. I'm an agent for Shield, that is all I am saying."
"Ugh, well I guess I can just go tell Tony what's going on." I said shrugging and moving passed her, as I went to step downstairs my arm was grabbed tightly and I was pulled back into the kitchen. "Ow, let me go."
"What will it take to keep your mouth shut about me?" She questioned, releasing some pressure on my arm, but keeping still.
"Train me to fight, defend myself," The look she gave me was confused, to say the least. I narrowed my eyes showing her that I meant what I was saying. "Tony wont let Happy train me and it's become a bother since Dad announced he was Iron man.
"Your blackmailing me to train you?" I nodded answering her question and we both stared at each other, the room silent. She nodded to me once then she released my wrist before gathering her things and leaving the building. I smirked to myself rubbing my wrist as I watched her leave. "No word of this to my father or I will spill coffee on your mainframe again Jarvis."
"That was such a mess to repair Miss Stark," The robotic voice said, causing me to grin once more.
"Then we understand each other..."
