Chapter: Eighteen
There was muffled shouting that stirred me awake. Slowly I got up off my bed, my legs almost giving out from under me. My stomach was hurting so much, it could have been from the fight last night. But I couldn't be sure. I sat on my bed so I wouldn't fall over, remaining there until I didn't feel any pain throughout my body. I tore off the sweater and jeans I passed out in and threw on a pair of black jeans and a blue tank top. I rinsed my face in my bathroom, getting off whatever grime that remained from last night. After I brushed through my slightly knotted hair I made my way down the steps into the kitchen. Dad was downstairs on the phone with Pepper, arguing. I sat at the top of the stairs listening into the conversation.
"Pepper. I did what is necessary for her," He sighed heavily rubbing at his eyes. They were arguing about me, great. "You don't get to play that card, she needed disciplining," I rolled my eyes and stood up, stepping down the stairs a bit louder. Making my presence known he started to talk a bit quieter. I had made my way towards the kitchen, grabbing a cup of coffee and the peanut butter. I started to make an English muffin with the toaster on the counter. I was silent the whole time I made my breakfast. "Yea, alright Pepper. I'll tell her," Dad put his hand to his phone turning to me. "Pepper says Happy Birthday," I rose my coffee mug with the Iron man logo on it to him as a way to thank her. After my English muffin popped up from the toaster I spread the peanut butter on it then retired to the couch. I set both my coffee and breakfast on the coffee table in front of me and crossed my legs. Pulling my laptop onto my crossed legs, browsing the web for a bit. Emails wishing me a happy birthday, some magazines wanting a comment on me being an eighteen year old. I ignored them and read Peppers, her's basically saying Happy birthday and she's sorry that I was grounded. Even though it was my own fault. Uncle Rhodes sent a video of me when I was younger. Around Five, dad had passed out on the couch while Uncle Rhodey had been watching me. And we both decided to draw on his face while he slept. Big red lips with blue eye shadow and rosy cheeks. I was shocked to see he still had it. He attached a note, wishing me the best day. So far my day hasn't been so good, I was under house arrest.
Dad sighed and hung up the phone before plopping down next to me, I shifted away from him on the couch. Taking a sip of my coffee I tried to not have a conversation with him. I was angry to say the least.
"So I have to leave the tower for a bit, a guy messed up shipping some pieces I need. Can I trust you not to leave?" I didn't give him a reply, he groaned looking to me. "Silent treatment? Really?" I nodded. "Can you at least answer yes or no?" I nodded again and he quickly took a bite out of my English muffin after he kissed the top of my head. "Happy Birthday Jae. I do love you, even though right now you must think otherwise," I motioned to the elevator to basically say, just go. He did, and as soon as the elevator shut I finished my coffee and English muffing. I rested on the couch, watching cute videos or replying to emails that lasted a few hours.
There was the sound of glass breaking that jolted me awake and onto the tile of the floor. My laptop fell onto the tile and slid under the coffee table. My head hurt as I began to stand up off the floor. My eyes saw the broken bottle over by the bar and I thought it was just dad. Yet he wasn't in the room. My head tilted to the side in confusion, I went an grabbed a few paper towels and wiped up whatever alcohol it was. Carefully after the liquid was cleaned up I grabbed the glass and tossed it into the garbage.
"Jarvis, what time is it?" I asked while I washed my hands.
"It's is a quarter after eleven, Miss Stark," Just as I walked up the stairs, I could have sworn that someone was in my room. My feet hit the tile fast and hard as I pushed my door open. It slamming into the wall, but when I looked around there was no one in my room. My brows drew together and I rubbed my eyes thinking it was just the lack of sleep. That's when I noticed my closet was open, I wouldn't leave it open. Quickly I knelt down and opened my bottom drawer, my bow was gone, my costume remained.
Someone was on the floor with me.
"Jarvis..." My voice wasn't above a whisper at this point. "Send the distress signal to dad." After I finished speaking the blaring alarm activated and my hands went straight to my ears. "Jarvis whats going on!" I stumbled out my bedroom door hoping I would be able to shut it off at the computer down stairs. I made it to the staircase when I heard someone whisper my name in my ear, I turned to see a person but there was no one there. Just the empty hall that lead to Dad's room. My nerves were off the charts now and I raced down the steps hurrying passed the computer and diving over the bar counter. My breathing was rapid and I hit the panic button, my next decision was to grab the bat that Dad started keeping under the counter. I held the bat close to my chest, from what I could tell, there was no one here, but I can only see so far. "Jarvis, run analysis for body heat on the floor."
"Running scan," I waited for Jarvis to finish with my back against the wall, my eyes scanning the floor. "Analysis complete. Only body heat signature is yours Miss Stark. There seems to be an anomaly though."
"Elaborate?"
"A cold spot on the floor seems to be moving throughout the floor," I lowered the bat in my confusion, for it only to drop when I heard a voice.
"Well, this is a surprise," I looked to the end of the bar and standing with his arms behind his back was a man in gold an green armor. Long jet black hair, slicked back neatly. He started to step around the bar towards me, that'when I grabbed the bat again and ran into a more open area of the room. His piercing green eyes never left my hazel ones.
"Who are you and what do you think your doing in my home!?" I yelled holding the bat up, ready to swing. He had continued moving towards me anyways and when I used all my strength to swing the bat he had caught it like it was nothing. Forcing the bat from my hands he threw it away from us.
"You live here?" He asked with a cocked eyebrow, I moved backwards and each step I took he took one towards me. The distance between us never changing, I wanted to run but I knew running usually led to my hair being grabbed. "Interesting," I knew there were people on the lower levels of the tower and maybe I would be luck enough they would hear me, I screamed. But nothing came out, the man had snapped his fingers and my mouth shut closed. "You are feisty." I shoved him as hard as I could, spinning on my heels I raced towards the elevator. I pressed the button to call the elevator so many times I thought I might shatter it. I closed my eyes hoping I was dreaming and when I heard the dinging of the elevator I opened them. I was stopped stunned when I saw the man in the elevator. He snapped his fingers and stepped off the elevator speaking. "Tell me your name."
"Jaedyn Stark," I forced from my lips, he gave me a genuine smile in reply.
"What a lovely name," I gulped and knit my brows together. What did he want with me? Slowly he moved towards me and I stepped backwards away from him. He rose his hand and a gold scepter with a sharped tip appeared in his hand. My eyes widened with shock, he started to extend the scepter towards me, that's when I noticed a glowing blue gem in it. I did what I thought was the best idea in the long run. I spun around lifting my leg high to reverse round house kick the scepter away from him. It had lowered but it didn't fly from his hands, he brought the scepter back towards me. I knew he was holding back whatever skills he knew, but I was unsure why. My hands extending in front of me to sop him but when he rose the scepter I felt every limb in my body growing heavy. My body didn't move, I didn't try to stop him from whatever he was doing, I didn't even breathe. The scepter was placed on my chest and I felt like I was floating. My eyes rolled back into my head and I heard this almost crackle of electricity. My lungs seemed to tighten cutting off my air, I wanted to move but I was frozen. Not soon after I dropped to the floor, my knees hitting the tile hard. Gravity taking over an I landed on my side, gripping my ribs. Trying to claw at my lungs I'm finally allowed to breathe in as much oxygen as I could take.
As blurry as my vision was I was able to see the faint outline of the Iron Man suit and the man disappearing in blink of an eye. The man was gone yet I couldn't move anything but my hands. This sense of burning was within my body, I screamed out. Dad was calling my name, the face mask off and he was coming towards me. I let out another sharp scream and felt this energy shoot out of me. My body shot towards the wall hitting it hard, again Dad came towards me. His face portraying the amount of worry he had with me. When I felt dad's hand on me I pushed it off of me. My hand sent him shooting across the room onto the bar, a blue light cloaking his body. As the blue coloring faded along dad's silhouette so did my vision and I was unconscious soon after.
I shifted onto my side feeling a ache in my chest, shooting off the couch I'm hit with pain. Gripping my chest, I tried to think of what happened. I remember the man coming into the tower but everything after that. Nothing. The room was scattered, I was still in the living room. There was a fight obviously, glass broken a few tables flipped. I looked over to dad's computer that was on, it read 9:25 pm. I was unconscious the whole day!
"Jae?" I heard Dad's voice, which made my stiff body shift and look over to the kitchen. "Jaedyn. Your awake, thank god. Your gonna give me a heart attack one of these days. What do you remember?" I started to stand but he rushed over to me and made sure I stayed seated, I did sit up though. Pulling a blanket up and over my shoulders.
"I'm okay, I remember you coming in from the balcony, did you save me?" I sighed rubbing my eyes.
"Yea, your lucky you sent the distress signal when you did," His eyes reached mine and he gave me a quick look over. "Are you sure your okay? Nothing feeling strange?" He raised an eyebrow in question.
"Yea dad I'm fine, did you fight the guy?" I gestured around the tower, he nodded slowly. "You win?" Again a nod. I shuttered at the thought of what could have happened, I felt sore. Had I gotten hit? "The guy was..."
"Crazy?"
"Psycho..." I said shaking my head. I rose my hands up to him and he reluctantly helped me up. My feet stumbling when they hit the cold floor. "Could you... Help me to my room?" I asked gripping my stomach. We were silent walking to my room, it took a little longer on the stairs but I wasn't complaining. I had done that enough in my life already. Once we reached my room I flopped onto my bed, half on my bed the other half on the floor still. Dad lifted my legs and tucked me in, which he hadn't done since the first home after I got my leg injury. "Thanks..." I grumbled into the pillow.
"You just keep safe Princess," He said quietly smoothing out my hair, he kissed my head and went over to the door. "Get some rest." I hadn't even known I had fallen asleep.
Listen to my voice young one. You must rest, preserve your strength. You can do more in your sleep than you realize my darling... You will change the world just as I have told you before. You shall rule with I by your side. My story is that of pain, and power comes from pain. So does yours. No more though, you shall master this and awaken your true abilities. Those who think to harm you will die trying, you leave men at your feet. Bowing in fear of your strength. Other worlds would will beg to be your side of a battle soon to commence. There are those you love who lie in hopes to protect you from the truth. You are smarter and stronger than you realize and with you power. You and I will be unstoppable. My brother thought I weak, but no longer. I have grown in my exile, I have learned the nature of my parentage, I have learned more than most. And in time so shall you. This world, this Midgard shall be yours to rule. All you have to do is accept this gift I have awoken within you. Accept it and you will no longer need to be protected. You will no longer need someone to come to your rescue.
I let out a sharp shriek feeling my body hit my bed. I sat up breathing heavily, there was a heavy feeling in my chest. My blankets clinging to my body, drenched in my own sweat. Looking to my nightstand for the time I grabbed my phone and powered it up. I was blinded my the light at first. It took a moment for my eyes to adjust. It read, 1:27 am. Some birthday I had, spent half of it asleep the other half I was attacked. I had a text from Dad reading, Had to meet with a friend. Your probably hungry so I ordered take-out, it's in the fridge.
Rubbing my eyes I stood up gripping the wall to support myself. When my head stopped spinning I opened my closet and put on my uniform. I needed to get out of here, I needed to breathe. I tied my hair back into a bun and attached my bow and arrows. Making my way down the stairs I went straight for the fridge. I downed the food in a matter of minutes. The tower was eerily quiet, Pepper wasn't here, Dad was somewhere else. I looked out at the night skyline, beautiful as always. A few buildings still at lights on, but I could see the street lights in the distance shining brightly. I hadn't even realized my hand was hurting until I hit the elevator button. I cringed as I took off my glove, running my fingers along the scar I could have sworn it was glowing. But that was crazy, probably still getting my bearings from the earlier fiasco. And in hind sight it probably wasn't a good thing that I was going out tonight, but I couldn't stay inside all day. I had pent up energy that I needed to release.
"Miss Stark. Do you find it wise to be disobeying your father's earlier request to rest?" Jarvis spoke over the elevator speakers.
"I don't want to be in a place that I was attacked in, I'm sure dad will understand," I rolled my eyes an exited the elevator when we went to the garage. I found my , revving the engine when I swung my leg over it. I put on my mask on then my all black helmet. Stretching out my fingers as I listened to her pur. Dad didn't know about my bike either, a little gift Shield got me just because I asked for it, I think Natasha asked for it on my behalf. I sped out of the garage and down the street. I obeyed most traffic laws, coming to a stop at red lights and all that stuff. But I did enjoy my speed.
Coming to a red light I was met with another car, a dark colored, tinted windowed impala. The driver rolled with window down and smirked over to me. Seeing my tight leather outfit he could easily see I was a woman. As soon as the light turned green I was down the street as fast as I could waiting for that magical voice. The voice of an NYPD dispatcher, that I had Jarvis hack into.
"Any available units we got a 10-31 in progress." Crime In Progress. "I repeat 10-90 at 78th and Madison." Bank Alarm. Well This should be fun. I spun out the tires spinning around having JARVIS tell me where I should turn and what street would be the fastest route. With JARVIS helping me, I knew it was a risk, but I needed someone to help me when I did this sort of work at night. I reached 77th where I noticed the same impala I had seen not too long ago. Three guys, black outfits, ski masks. Pretty common uniforms for bank robberies. I set the motorcycle to auto drive and pulled my bow from my back, aiming and loosing an arrow that shot into the wall behind them. Exploding and sending them back onto their butts. One flew across the hood of their car, causing me to chuckle. Afterwords I slowed the bike to a stop and I quickly got off an hit the first who stood. I used my bow to trip him and axe kick him to the ground. I took an arrow from my back and stabbed it into his shirt pinning him to the ground. As soon as I heard the engine of the impala start I spun and barely got out of the way of the car in time. They were speeding down the street by the time I got onto my bike. I kicked up the kickstand and spun the tires speeding off in order to catch them. I ignored all street laws and lights now, I was in pursuit. "10-80, need assistance." Chase in Progress. "Black and red motorcycle, rider believed to be The Hood, in pursuit of a dark impala. Both have no licence plates."
I grinned to myself an sped up getting closer to the car. They had tried to ram me off the road, but I was able to steady my bike. I felt this rumble under my skin and I cringed, feeling this burning under my skin. It almost made me want to tear off my skin. While this was happening I hadn't been aware of the window the impala had opened their passenger side door. It hit me and I was flying off my bike. My bike crashing with no driver, rolling to a stop. I had rolled to stop, but I couldn't move. My whole body aching. I heard the tires spin out and the smell of burning rubber filled my senses. I groaned rolling to my stomach, seeing the impala. It's engine revving as it spun out the wheels aimed straight to me. I got to my feet as quick as I could, this whisper in my ear telling me to stay where I was. I felt the energy that was in my body, started to make its way to the tips of my fingers.
Suddenly I couldn't move, and I had no control of my body. I could see a police vehicle stopped and two officers exited it. Yelling at me to move or something along those lines, their commands were softly muted. The wheels of the impala started to move an my ears were filled with a high pitch whistle. The car was going fast enough that it would be scarily close for me to run and jump out of the way. I shut my eyes and held my arms out in front of me, honestly petrified. I felt my heart beat increase and my eyes shot open, a bright light shot from my hand I saw the car stopped dead in it's tracks. It was engulfed with a blue light that also was hovering around my hands. The wheels no longer spun and the engine was taking it self apart. Each piece was covered in the same faded blue around the piece, piling itself on the asphalt. I was in shock, that was happening, it was real. And I think I was doing it. The cop was speaking again, I could see her lips moving but the whistling turned to a high shriek. My hands went to my ears and I dropped to one knee. That's when I noticed the wind had started to pick up and I noticed in the sky a jet, lowering down. Touching down on the asphalt, behind the officers car. The jet lowered it's back and out stepped Phil Coulson. He was in a suit, his jacket blowing in the jet's turbines as the came to a slow stop. He spoke to the female officer and she had spoke to her partner soon after. The two officers then left in a hurry to arrest the other officers.
"You're really like your father aren't you. Making a scene an all," Phil spoke, making his way to me. I put a hand up to my ear to show that I couldn't hear him as well I wanted to. The moment I went to stand the same color energy shot off me and sent him back a few yards. He groaned, getting up onto his feet again, brushing off his suit. I gasped in shock at what was happening, I wrapped my arms around me. Tucking them into my self, in hopes nothing bad would happen any time soon. "Sorry kid..." I heard his voice again, an there was a shocking pain in my body that caused me to drop in his arms. "I got you, I got you. Everything's gonna be fine now."
"Coulson..." I muttered an afterwords I whimpered in pain.
"Yes, Director. I got the package, returning to base now. No she didn't do too much damage. In fact she took apart a car. Yes sir, I'll have someone deal with it." My vision was fading in an out. Phil set me down on a padded area of the jet, I covered my eyes with my arms in hopes to shield my eyes from the light. Soon we were lifted up off the ground, and I felt myself drifting off into a forced sleep.
Darling. Darling... My Darling Jaedyn... Your Abilities Have Awakened...
