I have confirmed there are at least ten mutants within the Midtown HS group. One of them can manipulate objects, to which I speculate to be Iisan Takanashi as seen in the recording.
Note: Keep an eye on the boy named Peter Parker.
Signed,
Dr. Houston Nicholas Crane
Dr. Crane,
I thank you for your input, but your facts were slightly off and your message too late to be of use to me. Takanashi can do far much more that just manipulate objects. I've assigned you to figure out what the mutants here can do, yet you've hardly given me anything. I could have died last night because of your lack of information. I expect better results soon, do not disappoint.
And why should I keep note of Parker? I'd like to hear clarification, thank you.
Signed,
Dr. Trevor Braunt
WARNING: sensitive topics of self harm in this chapter.
Peter didn't sleep after that. How could he? He felt like he'd lost some grand battle between life and death, yet survived. But still, survival meant nothing to him and at that point he could only wish to be dead.
He wasn't the only one who felt that way.
That night, Stella Write had committed suicide. She had prescription meds in her duffle which they'd retrieved from the storage room just a day or so ago. She took the whole bottle and expired her life. They found her body leaning up against a wall in the corner of the room, cold and stiff from the hours she'd been gone.
And for a moment, Peter had a thought of following Stella's path. He couldn't take it anymore. He was forced into a situation where he had the ability to save people, but should he do so, he'd expose his identity and secrets to the world. He'd be better off dead.
Peter had MJ, and that's all he needed to keep himself going.
That night, when Dr. Braunt made that offer to Iisan, chaos unfolded. The students realized what a grave situation they were thrown into. Choose to save McFay and Terrance would die, or choose to save Terrance and McFay would die. There was no winning in that situation.
The students argued over it, as soon as they realized a choice had to be made. A horrible choice, to choose who they would rather have killed. Dr. Braunt made it very clear that if they didn't choose, he'd kill Terrance with his gun right then and there. Would Iisan be able to stop that bullet? Saving Lauren was just a shot of luck, he had moved at the right time and had he been even a millisecond slower, she would be dead too, just like the others.
The majority wanted to vote Terrance off, claiming he was useless to them since he was blind and would only burden them if they wanted to survive and make it out of this hell hole. But no one could agree on anything, because truthfully, those who new Terrance even just barely, didn't want him to die. He was so pure and caring, strong to. He was more than willing to sacrifice his life if it meant the others would survive, and what had McFay done? The truth was: nothing.
Peter McFay knew this too. He'd sat around doing nothing while everyone else was risking their lives to survive. Terrance had thrown himself into the face of danger more than once just for the safety of others. Terrance wanted to keep people alive. McFay had hidden in a fort and watched from afar, doing absolutely nothing.
Yet still, people wanted rid of Terrance. And Peter knew that Terrance would have been killed that night if McFay hadn't stepped up.
The boy offered himself willingly. He said he wanted to do at least one good thing in his life, save at least one person, rather than survive knowing he could have done something to protect them. And that concluded the night.
McFay was taken away, and obviously he did not survive as he didn't return to them that morning. They all had a video of his death on their phones but no one wanted to watch it. That would be too much to handle for any of them.
And now, there were more problems amongst the students. There were now three dead bodies in the room, which they all laid on mats and covered with sheets to keep them hidden. With Stella, Ami, and Cleo's bodies stuffed into a corner, the room was bound to smell like death by the end of the day.
Not to mention, they now had a new problem on their hands. That problem, was Iisan. Iisan had exposed himself last night. He'd revealed he wasn't a normal human, and that he in fact had special abilities, for he was a mutant. And now, people were scared of him—more scared than they'd been before, at least.
"How many are dead now?" MJ asked quietly, sitting on the cement floor next to Peter a few hours after the students had covered Stella and Cleo's bodies.
"7." Peter replied.
"This doesn't feel real." MJ muttered.
"I know..." Peter sighed. There was no comforting either of them at that point. All they could do was stay beside each other. "I think... I think I have to do it."
"Do what?"
"Tell them the truth." Peter sighed. "I can't just keep pretending I can't do anything. I'm... I'm Spider-Man. I'm ashamed of myself for not saving those people... and Ned. Why didn't I save Ned?! I knew! He knew I knew! I-"
"Relax, Peter. Don't do something irrational." MJ said. "You can't risk it. I'm sorry but-"
"But Iisan did. Iisan- he told me- he told me that his abilities were the most dangerous secret he kept and that there was no way he'd ever reveal that to these people. But last night- I guess he knew that there was no choice. And I have too. I can't let anyone else die."
"He saved that girl because she's his best friend." MJ said. "He probably wasn't thinking about it. Otherwise, he would have done that ages ago, just like you would have."
"Lauren- Lauren isn't his best friend." Peter said.
"No. They're close. It's obvious."
"I don't think they're friends. Terrance is-"
"Peter, you dumb fuck"
Jk jk she didn't say that.
"Peter, are you really this dense?" MJ snorted. "If Iisan stopped a bullet for Lauren, who is literally and so obviously his best friend, imagine what he'd do for Terrance. He loves him."
"Loves him? Terrance has a-"
"Oh don't even say it Peter." MJ rolled her eyes. "You're as blind as a bat. If Terrance had been taken last night, there's no telling what Iisan would have done. Dr. Braunt would probably be dead. He'd probably go as far as to seriously hurt or even kill all those kids who voted Terrance off. I mean seriously, I wouldn't dare hurt Terrance, especially after seeing what Iisan can do. Braunt knows this too, that's why he made that threat last night."
"So they're-?"
"Probably together, Peter. Just like you and me, but with two guys. Don't tell me you're homophobic."
"I'm not phobic!" Peter exclaimed. "I'm just really incredibly stupid I guess!"
"No shit." MJ said and pecked his cheek with a kiss.
"Everyone listen up!" The girl named Emma stood up in the center of the room to get everyone's attention. "We have no choice but to go to the outside!"
"I guess we call it the outside now cause of Ami, huh?" MJ said under her breath.
"We can't wait any longer!" Emma hollered. "We have a plan! Greydon, Terrance, Corvan, Iisan, Jason and whoever would like to join them will be going to steal the guns, for real this time! And ammo! We need a lot more ammo!"
There were some murmurs of agreement amongst the remaining students.
"Bradley, Lauren, Cat, and I will be scouting the exit, and taking out as many guards and faculty members as possible." Emma proclaimed. "The rest of you will be helping to get those other kids to this room for safety. When everyone is back to the room, all of us wi be given a gun or weapon even if you don't know how to use it. You just have to work with whatever you've got, which means the people retrieving the guns have to get enough weapons for all..." Emma glanced around, "all fourteen of us."
Peter raised his hand. "I can help get the guns."
"Sure I guess, are you fit for it?"
"He can run." Jason vouched. "Like- super fast."
"Alright, then that's that. Anything else? We don't have much time for this, so we must work quickly." Emma said. There were some murmurs but it seemed everyone was in agreement. "Ok, get in your groups. Be back here by..." she looked at her phone, "7:00. Braunt usually comes her at 7:30 or 8, don't be here after him."
"Peter what did you just agree to?!" MJ seethed.
"I told you, I'm not gonna let anyone else die."
"You're gonna expose your identity?!"
"If they figure it out then they figure it out." Peter sighed. "I'm sorry MJ. I just want to keep you safe. I love you."
"I love you too, Peter."
"Peter?" Someone approached from behind Peter and MJ. Peter looked over his shoulder to see Terrance.
"Terrance?"
"Can I talk to you? Privately?" Terrance asked. Peter looked over to MJ who gave him a nod of approval.
"Sure." Peter said and stood up. MJ awkwardly left to probably go find her group. "What is it?"
"You're coming with us still, right?"
"Yeah, of course."
"It's just... well... Greydon is erm-"
"Greydon-?"
"Greydon hates mutants." Terrance said. "Really- really hates mutants, and he's very vocal and aggressive about it. Now that everyone knows Iisan is... you know..." Terrance sighed. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, our entire group with the exception of Greydon and Jason are all mutants, and maybe you—I don't know. Greydon's probably going to find an excuse to lash out of Iisan, I'm sure of it."
"We're all trying to survive, why would he attack Iisan?"
"You don't understand. Greydon hates mutants terribly. The only reason he hasn't don't or said anything yet is because he's mourning Cleo." Terrance said. "My fear is that something will happen if he gets ahold of a gun. I mean, you've seen how irrational he gets when you put a weapon in his hands. Last night he stole back the gun he gave to Jason, and I don't know where he put it. It could be in his hands but I'm pretty sure Iisan would have told me if he saw the gun on Greydon."
"So what are you saying?"
"Don't set Greydon off." Terrance said. "I don't know if you're a mutant or what, all I know is that Iisan has been suspicious of you. The last thing we need is for you or one of us to do something slightly suspicious, and for Greydon to go berserk. It wouldn't have been the first time he's done something like that."
"What has he done in the past? Why does he hate mutants?"
"Jason told me that Greydon's parents were killed by a gang of mutants when he was little. That's why he hates them so much. He sees us as monsters, and we disgust him." Terrance answered. "Last year he nearly beat a kid to death at the end of a soccer match because he saw the player spark electricity around his own body. I guess he had some sort of electrical or lightning capabilities, but he didn't hurt anyone. But Greydon lost his shit on the dude." Terrance relayed. "Apparently Greydon knocked the kid to the ground and tried stomping his face in with his cleats. The player had to be hospitalized after that."
"... he did what-" Peter's eyes widened- "you're joking, right?"
"Nope."
"I didn't hear about that." Peter said. "But I'm not really into sports."
"He loses his temper really easily. Jason has had him hang out with us occasionally and the entire time I felt I was walking on thin ice, because I have no way of knowing if I set my abilities off. I don't feel a thing." Terrance said. "I understand the trauma Greydon has, it's horrible really. But what his done is horrible, and he's turning into a monster."
"So basically, don't do anything weird."
"Exactly. The others already know, I just wanted to make sure you'd be safe. If you're not a mutant... what are you?" Terrance asked.
"I can't tell you. If the time comes, I suppose I'll have no choice. For now, I have to be secret. Only you and Iisan seem to be aware, so don't tell anyone, ok?"
"Alright. But will your secret be useful?"
"Maybe."
"Mines not. I'm a mutant, obviously."
"Yeah I was gonna ask what your powers were but I didn't know if you were comfortable with that."
"I glow."
"You glow?"
"I am literally a human glow stick."
._.
"Enticing.." Peter chuckled lightly.
"I know. Obviously, I'm like- super OP." Terrance said sarcastically.
"Shouldn't we be um... getting everyone together to go steal weapons or something now?"
"Er- yeah! Right." Terrance fumbled with his thumbs. "Jason and Greydon are waiting for us at the door, so Iisan and Corvan are..."
"Corvan's over there." Peter pointed across the room cause he forgot Terrance is blind.
"Where?"
"Oh- he's with- ... he's with the dead bodies."
"He's what? Oh- shit-" Terrance grumbled. "I nearly forgot about Cleo. I guess I just... chose to push last night from my mind."
"Was he close to Cleo?" Peter asked as they began making their way across the room.
"Yeah. They were really good friends." Terrance answered. "Last night... he didn't sleep. He just... cried and cried until he couldn't. Didn't even talk to me. This really shook him up, I'm not sure if he'll be fit to go on our small quest."
"Maybe it's best if we leave him."
"No. No. That would bother him too. He needs to come with us, stop dwelling around Cleo's body." Terrance sighed. "He needs a distraction. Cleo was his anchor in a lot of things."
"I see." Peter muttered. They neared Corvan.
"Hey buddy, you ok?" Terrance asked, squatting down next to Corvan. Corvan's eyes were sunken and red from his tears and lack of sleep.
"I'm fine." Corvan said, rubbing his face.
"You sure?"
"I'm fine." Corvan reiterated.
"You three ready?" Iisan approached from behind.
"Yeah, I think so." Peter said.
"Then let's go fuck some shit up." Iisan said with a slight cruel smile.
A/N
Yeah I know this chapter was weird just shut up. It was supposed to be longer and actually get to them going to the weapons and stuff but I don't have time for that. Basketball tournaments are really taking a lot of time but now my team is in the remaining four, so it's not over yet. Please excuse my sloppy writing.
