Cats Hunt in Packs
A/N
I hope that me including random OCs as side characters doesn't annoy y'all. I usually hate it when authors do that in fanfiction but I didn't really have a choice because I needed a certain amount of people and we don't know many characters from Peter's school besides his closest classmates.
Also to clarify, mutants are people born with abilities normal humans don't have. It's a marvel thing I'm incorporating into this, think X-Men. Also I believe Wanda and Pedro were mutants as well.
I just don't want y'all to think I'm trying to make the side characters too powerful, I swear it's plot important and most of them have pathetic powers anyways. *looks at Terrance cause he literally is just a glow stick*

Come morning, Peter finally felt like he had energy. He'd fallen asleep fairly easily, and stayed that way till it was time for breakfast. The students had to argue about whether it was safe to leave the room for breakfast or not, but seeing as none of them had any food since last morning and it was being seemingly harmlessly provided to them, why turn it down?
They knew that Braunt would take them somewhere right after they ate, so they had to come up with a plan before they left the room. The plan was a little hectic, but what more can you expect from a bunch of bickering teenagers?
1. If there's knives at breakfast, steal one.
2. If step one has failed, step four fills in.
3. Take a picture of Karol's body, wherever she may be hidden.
4. Some of the students brought valuable items to survival that got confiscated, so someone (they chose Greydon and Jason because they can run the fastest if need be) needs to find find the room all their stuff is being stashed.
5. Take photos of said room and return to the group as quickly as possible.
6. Tonight someone else will have to go. So before Braunt comes, a handful of kids need to find the storage room again and smuggle the stuff back.
7. During step 6, the others who remain in the room will make a safety fortress with the mattresses so that they can both hide the items they stole back, and keep conversations muted from microphones that could be hidden in the room.
8. When Braunt comes to take another kid, ambush.
That was it. The magnificent plan they'd tried scrumming together. Yes it had many holes, and relied mostly on the hope that they could find the place their belongings were stored, but all they had left was hope at this point.
During breakfast, they found they had only butter knives for bread. Peter noticed most of the kids slipped the butter knives into their sleeves and pockets anyways, so he did the same. Iisan didn't sit near him, nor talk to him. In fact, the boy seemed rather mad at Peter and had avoided him all morning. Was it because he didn't know what mutants were?
Braunt made a few announcements which Peter chose to ignore. He hated the sound of this man's voice already.
He said that today they would be working with their first animals, cats. Why cats? Peter knew that after seeing Nook, these cats couldn't possibly be normal. He also never clarified what type of cats they'd be anyways.
Braunt and his employees led the kids down a hall past the botanic gardens. He opened a door and took them inside a cellar looking room, something that made Peter think of a prison or the animal pound. There were house cats in cages stacked along the wall, staring at the students with widened eyes.
"Normally the dogs are in here too, but since we won't be working with them today, they're outside." Dr. Braunt stated. "I've been focused on the behavior of cats, as there body language is how they communicate with one another. People say the tails have a lot to say for them, but I disagree. Because that would imply that cats without tails are mute."
He opened one of the cages and calmly put his hand inside. The feline within the cage sniffed his fingers hesitantly.
"To prove this, most of the cats here do not have tails. I wanted to know how they would communicate if they were slightly different in appearance to one another, so..." he pulled the cat out of its cage, "So I genetically modified them."
The students gasped upon seeing the cat's full body. It looked like a typical tabby, except that instead of having a normal tail, it had two wings in its place. The wings were shiny and feathered, laying flat against the cat's rear end. It was absurd, but strikingly beautiful.
"Needless to say, my theory was right. The cats with wings for tails communicate slightly differently, yet all the other cats understand them. They can't wag their tails when angry, or puff them up to seem bigger, so they found other ways to exhibit the same things." Braunt stated. The cat stretched its wings out and yawned, leaping from Braunts arms and onto the floor where it stretched its body before them. "This little fella's name is Zeus."
"He's... cute." Said one of the students. Braunt smiled.
"Isn't he?" He opened another cage. "I have a few others just like him, like this little guy here, Hades." He said and pulled out a sleepy black cat from its cage. Hades was also missing a tail, but like Zeus, had two wings in its place. The wings were that of a crow, or raven perhaps.
"You have a theme with names then?" Ami stated.
Yeah I do too lol. Except it's between my friends and I. My kitten's name is Mars, my friend (same friend that coincidentally was the reason I wrote this book out of boredom cause they freaking sleep for forever), has a kitten named Pluto and an older van named Venus, and my other friend just recently got a kitten and named her Jupiter. They're all the Roman gods.
Because... themes...
Or maybe these cats are from the Sailor Moon squad idk.
Our goal is to get the whole solar system of cats, which means someone has to name their cat Uranus. Rip to that soul.
"With the cats, yes. I don't know why though, it just seemed fitting." Braunt said and pulled yet another cat with wings on its butt out from a cage. "This is Hades's and Zeus's brother, Poseidon."
The cat was a silvery grey tabby with blotches of black spots decorating its fur, the wings of a pigeon resting on its butt.
Haha. Pigeon butt.
"These three adapted to the modifications fastest." Braunt said. "I think it helped them to have each other in it all. They say cats aren't social creatures, yet I've found that all the cats I've left to figure this out on their own, don't turn out well. They need each other."
Poseidon seemed to be the most social of the three, cause he immediately walked up to the students the second Braunt had placed him on the ground. He rubbed up against Peter's legs, looking for pets. MJ squared down and gave the weird looking cat the attention it sought for.
"Cats hunt in packs." Braunt said. "So I do believe they are social creatures when they need to be."
Braunt straightened his coat.
"All you'll be doing with the cats today is spending time with them. They need the social activity, as I fear they've gotten quite lonely. But do take notes on their behaviors, I'll use those later if you notice something I haven't." Braunt explained. "You may take out the other cats, just be sure not too let too many out at once as that becomes problematic. Oh and, don't mind Kronos, he's a little... different than the others." With that, Braunt left them to it. He abandoned them in the room, which to Peter seemed like a sign saying, you may look for the girl's body now.
The room was small. It was enough to fit all the students with a little empty space, but it was clear that if Karol was here, she was hidden intentionally in a spot where the students would have to look if they wanted to find her. No one would be stumbling upon her body on accident like they had with Ned.
Poseidon took a liking to MJ and followed her around with Peter as they began peeking into the cages.
"Which one's Kronos, do you think?" Peter asked.
"Their names are on the cage doors." MJ said, pointing to one labeled "Persephone". They looked inside the particular cage, expecting to see another cat with wings. But no, this cat was nothing like that. She looked completely normal, except that her fur was a pastel strawberry pink color.
"It's pink!" Peter said in surprise.
"Her description says she's a... a glowing pink furred cat." MJ red the label. "And she's not that old, she's basically a baby still."
"Huh." Peter said, looking at the cat staring back at him in the cage. "Should we take her out?"
"If Braunt wanted to leave and let us manage the cats on our own, something tells me we shouldn't be opening any of the cages. Perhaps only Zeus, Poseidon and Hades are friendly." MJ replied.
"Where... where do you think he hid Karol?" Peter asked with a low voice.
"Perhaps in a cage."
"These cages are way too small to fit a human body into." Peter commented.
"No duh, Peter. I can't believe you're a superhero, if you can't even think of what I'm thinking. Have you never dealt with a serial killer out there?" She whispered.
"Uh..." Peter moved on to the next cage. "No. What are you saying?"
"He probably cut her up and stuffed the pieces around the room so we can find her, one little bit at a time." MJ answered.
"Oh..." Peter felt sick. The cat in the cage before him was like Persephone, though it was a purple colored one instead. His name was Eros, as all the cats seemed to have the names of Greek gods bestowed to them.
"Sorry, it's gross but.." MJ shook her head. "God. I'm so... scared right now."
"Me too." Peter admitted. He was subconsciously looking for the cage labeled Kronos. He wanted to know why Braunt had mentioned the name. He passed by a few odd cats. There was one called Helos, with white hollow eyes and way too many teeth in it's mouth. Another, Hera, was golden and glowed within her cage. She looked like the sun.
There was another one with wings named Minthe, though as Peter recalled, that was the name of a nymph, not a god. Minthe's wings, unlike the other's, were that of a bat. She looked agitated.
"Oh my god that's the ugliest little shit I've ever seen." Jason began laughing at one of the cats in the cage. "No wonder Braunt said he was weird."
Peter peeked over to see the cat in the cage Jason laughed at. There he was. The cat named Kronos. And he really was an ugly little shit.
The cat had duck feet on its hind legs, and was missing its front two. Instead of legs, it had wings where it's arms would have been. It's tail was fat and feathery, but most striking of all was it's one colossal eye that took up nearly half this cat's face.
"Wow, I thought he meant it was dangerous." Greydon chuckled. Kronos hit his head against the side of his cage. "What, is it autistic?"
"Don't say that!" Emma scolded. "Gah, that thing is ugly. Ew." She turned away from it.
"Um... his cage is a little different." MJ pointed out. "The back, it's got a trapdoor."
"Um..." Jason put his hand on the cage lock, "should we see what's... inside the trapdoor?"
"Might be what we're looking for." MJ nodded. Jason hesitantly opened the cages and cautiously tugged Kronos out of it, dropping him hastily on the floor like he didn't care that it didn't have front legs to catch itself with. Jason then reached his hand to the back of the cage and pulled the trapdoor open.
Peter nearly threw up.
"Looks like... we found her..." Greydon shuddered. Jason was so startled by the sight, he fell straight to the floor in shock.
"Take a picture already, I don't wanna see her body." Emma demanded.
"Alright I got it," MJ sighed. She took out her phone and took a picture, for inside that trapdoor as a little chamber. And inside that little chamber, was Karol's body, absolutely torn to pieces.
