Pets

Peter swung around New York in his Spider-Man suit, just finishing up patrol for the afternoon. He tried to do patrol after school in order to get more sleep at night, though sometimes he would do it at night and instead do homework in the afternoon.

He was just on his way back to the tower when he heard a loud whining noise.

He stopped, dropping down into a dark alleyway where he had heard the whining noise due to his enhanced hearing.

He listened hard and heard it coming from the large dumpster nearby. He walked over and lifted the lid, looking inside.

There it sat. It was small, fluffy, and had big brown eyes that stared hopefully up at him.

Peter carefully picked up the tiny puppy and held it in his arms. "It's okay Buddy, I'm here now, we're gonna be okay." He whispered, petting the puppy on it's head.

He held it securely in one arm, then used the other to web his way to the tower, before deciding it would be safer to walk through the front to keep the puppy safe.

Peter walked into the bottom of Stark tower and slid through the security. Nobody questioned him, he was Spider-Man after all.

Up the elevator he went, asking Friday to not tell dad that he had a puppy. Tony was very against animals, and Peter knew he wouldn't let him keep his new Puppy- Buddy- if he knew.

Peter thanked his lucky stars that Tony was in the lab that afternoon, quickly tiptoeing into his bedroom with the puppy.

The second the door closed, Peter drew a sigh of relief. "We can't let anyone know that you're here, okay Buddy?" He told the puppy, who was already settling on his bed.

Smiling, Peter laid on the bed beside it, petting the puppy, who enjoyed the attention very much, rolling over to expose it's stomach.

"Peter? Friday said you were home, can I come in?" Steve asked from the other side, making Peter's stomach flip.

"Uh, I'll come out there, hold on." Peter said, then pressed a finger to his lips as he looked at Buddy.

Buddy just stared back at him with its big brown eyes, looking very sad as Peter left the room, making sure Steve didn't see inside. Guilt panged through Peter's heart, but he couldn't let anyone know.

"What are you hiding?" Steve asked, looking both suspicious and amused.

"Oh, uh, nothing."

"So you wouldn't mind if I went in there right now?" Steve moved to open the door, but Peter quickly moved in the way.

"Uh, actually, I'm planning a, er, surprise and I don't want anyone to know about it yet." Peter said, smiling as innocently as he could.

Steve looked at him for a few moments.

"Alright then, let's go get you something to eat, you didn't have any afternoon tea earlier, you must be starving. What do you feel like?"

"Uh, meat!" Peter said, voice cracking slightly. Steve gave him a strange look.

"Alright then." He said.

Steve soon had made him a sausage sandwich with the leftover sausages from the night before, and Peter requested to eat in his room in order to finish off his homework at the same time.

The moment Steve was gone, Peter took all the sausage out of the bread and gave it to Buddy, who quickly scoffed it down.

Peter just ate the bread in the sandwich, despite knowing he'd be hungry later.

"That nice Buddy?" Peter asked, watching as he finished it off quickly, looking up hopefully as though asking for more food.

Smiling, Peter handed him one of the slices of bread, hoping that bread was okay for dogs.

After that, Peter grabbed a bowl he still had in there from when he brought a bowl of chips in there the day before and poured some water from his water bottle into it.

Buddy happily lapped it up, so Peter started on his homework.

About an hour later, Friday notified him of dinner.

"I'll be back soon Buddy," Peter whispered, petting Buddy's head. "You just stay quiet, okay?"

Buddy whined when Peter left, so Peter made a quick shushing noise.

Out in the dining room, everyone was already sitting down, eating the spaghetti bolognese that Pepper had made.

"Hey uh, can I eat in my room? I have a lot of homework to finish and-"

"Then you should have done your homework before patrol. Sit down and eat your dinner please." Tony scolded sternly.

"Yes dad." Peter sighed, and sat down, trying to eat as quickly as possible.

Natasha watched him the entire time, eyes calculating. Peter knew she thought he was hiding something, and he hoped she didn't find out what it was.

Peter quickly finished his dinner, thanked Pepper, and washed his bowl, heading back to his room.

"Hey hey hey get back here." Tony said as Peter was about to leave the room, pausing in the doorway.

Peter walked back over to Tony, worried that he had figured it out, until-

Tony licked a napkin and wiped it across Peter's face.

"There you go kiddo, honestly it's like caring for a child sometimes." He chuckled, ruffling Peter's hair.

Peter scowled, trying to fix his hair, and left again.

Buddy was scratching at his door when he got back, whining loudly.

Peter greeted him with a scratch at the ears. "Hey Buddy, you need to be quiet, remember?"

Peter, in all honesty, had finished his homework, so now he was showing Ned pictures of Buddy, the pair squealing about how cute he was.

Peter had several cuddles with Buddy, then went to have a shower before bed.

When he came out, he was greeted by a sight that scared him.

"Auntie Tasha?!" He shrieked, thankful he was wearing his pyjamas. Natasha was sitting on his bed, petting Buddy with a loving look on her face.

"Oh hey Peter. I must say, I'm glad this is what you were hiding."

Peter opened and closed his mouth several times much like a goldfish, sliding over to the door and closing it.

"Please don't tell dad, he would never let me keep it." Peter pleaded, using his puppy dog eyes to the biggest capacity.

Natasha smirked at him. "I won't, but they're pretty suspicious already, it won't take long for them to figure it out."

Peter chewed his lip, deep in thought. "Could you, uh, get them off my case? Like, tell them something completely different or something?"

"I'll try," Natasha said. "But you're going to have to tell them at some point."

Peter sighed, nodding, and petted Buddy's head. Buddy had fallen asleep, sleeping peacefully on Peter's bed.

Suddenly, a thought popped into Peter's head.

"Mum and dad are gonna come in to tuck me in! They're gonna see Buddy!" He said, sitting up in panic.

"It's alright, I'll take Buddy into my room until later, okay?"

Peter nodded, sighing in relief. Natasha carefully picked up the sleeping puppy and left the room, leaving Peter to get into bed, reading an avengers fanfiction on his phone.

Steve and Tony came in around nine thirty, tucking him in and pressing a kiss each to his forehead.

"Are you okay Peter? You've been hiding in your room quite a lot recently." Steve said, looking concerned.

"Yeah yeah I'm fine, honest." Peter replied. "Just a lot of homework, that's all."

Steve nodded, switching off the lamp on Peter's bedside table. "Goodnight Peter." He said, heading back to the door, where Tony was waiting, having already done his good nights.

"I'll be in the lab if you need me Peter." Tony told him. "Night."

"Night dad, mum." The pair closed the door quietly as Peter laid down, closing his eyes.

The moment he heard their footsteps get far away enough, Peter sat up and grabbed his phone, texting Natasha.

SpiderBaby:

<can i have Buddy back now? Mum and dad r gone

AuntieTasha:

<on my way

A minute later, Natasha slowly opened the door and put Buddy on his bed, petting his head to settle him down again.

"Thanks auntie Tasha." Peter whispered.

"Goodnight Peter." Natasha whispered back, pushing his curls out of his face. "I'll close the door."

Peter fell asleep not long after Natasha closed the door, Buddy asleep tucked up beside him, his fur soft beneath his hand, the slow lifting of his chest as he breathed soothing.

Peter spent most of the next day in his room, only coming out for food and water, most of which he gave to Buddy.

He was very hungry due to this, but he didn't want Buddy to starve, so he had to deal with it.

It was around four pm that he was called into the lounge room for a family meeting, which made him worry.

"Stay here Buddy, and be quiet." Peter told Buddy quietly, closing the door after him. Buddy whined sadly, but Peter had no choice but to leave him.

"Peter, please take a seat." Tony said when Peter walked in. Everyone else was already sitting down, all eyes on Peter.

"Peter, we know you're a teenager and your body is going through a lot of changes," Steve began, making Peter furrow his eyebrows, looking mildly confused and disgusted.

"But you've been hiding in your room quite a lot, and while we know this is quite normal, it isn't healthy. It also happened rather suddenly, so we wanted to ask if you're okay?"

Peter frowned. "I'm fine, I've just been finishing my homework."

"Are you sure?"Clint asked, and Peter was slightly surprised- it wasn't often that Clint showed a lot of concern.

"Yeah I'm fine."

"You say that a lot Peter, but most of the time you aren't. You know that if you need to talk, we're right here, okay?" Bucky said.

"Yeah yeah I know."

Suddenly, there was a loud barking noise that made the colour drain out of Peter's face.

"What was that?" Tony asked, voice stern.

"I uh, must've left my tv on. I'll go turn it off-"

"I thought you were doing homework?" Steve interupted.

"I uh, was, but I had the tv on as uh, background noise. Helps me focus."

Tony  raised an eyebrow, and Vision tilted his head.

A small puppy ran into the room, all eyes turning to the adorable ball of fluff.

"Buddy how'd you get out?" Peter asked as Buddy walked over to him, sitting beside where Peter was sitting, tail wagging as Peter started scratching behind his ears.

"This is what you were hiding?!" Tony yelled, making Peter flinch. Tony immediately looked guilty. He sighed, rubbing his face.

"Look Peter, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell, it's just..."

"You don't want a dog, I get it, why do you think I hid it from you?"

"Well you can't blame me, they poop everywhere, piss everywhere and put fur everywhere."

"But look how cute he is!" Peter held up Buddy, who looked at Tony, tongue out and tail wagging.

Everyone else was already falling for it, awing.

"You know Tony, I don't know what's so bad about having a puppy, you already have three anyway." Natasha drawled, leaning back in her seat.

"What do you mean?" Vision asked.

"Peter, Steve and Thor."

"I am not a puppy! I am a strong beast-"

Thor was cut off as Wanda reached up and started petting his head, making his eyes droop slightly in content, before he quickly shook her off.

"That does not prove anything!" He boomed, cheeks pink in embarrassment. Wanda just giggled.

Steve meanwhile, was frowning.

"But how am I like a dog?" He asked.

"Stevie, if we say nice things and give you hugs then you're loyal to us for literally ever. Like me for instance." Bucky told him. "And you answer to any nickname given to you, like mum for example."

Steve hunched down again, realising that he was right.

"What about me?" Peter piped up, now scratching Buddy's tummy.

"Peter literally everything about you is the same words you'd use to describe a puppy. Overexcited, likes hugs, goes to sleep from running your hands through your hair, follows you around, loyal, curious, has puppy dog eyes downpacked, what else?" Clint said.

"I think we're missing the point here. We can't keep a dog." Tony interupted.

"Why not?" Everyone else asked. Peter looked close to tears as he looked up at Tony, holding Buddy close to him.

"Because it's dirty and sh!ts everywhere, and puts fur everywhere."

"He can be trained, can't you Buddy? Besides, we can't just leave him, I promised him I'd take care of him." Peter told him, kissing Buddy's head.

Tony sighed, tugging at his hair.

"Besides, he helps me with my nightmares. I didn't get any nightmares last night because Buddy was beside me." Peter continued.

Tony sighed again, then pressed his lips together, thinking.

"Alright, but he needs to be trained, and we need to get all the correct supplies. He's your responsibility, and there'll be no messes, okay?"

Everyone cheered,  and Buddy made a loud yapping noise as if trying to join in.

"Welcome home Buddy." Peter whispered, patting Buddy's head.

A/N Ok so I'm running out of ideas so I would really appreciate it if someone gave me a request? Please? Here's the rules:

1. No Thorki, Starker, Ned/Peter, ships.

2. Must include Peter in some way (this is a story about Peter Parker, so)

3. No other rules, but feel free to give me ideas about tropes such as field trip aus and such, I did have an idea for that but scrapped it cos it turned out really bad.

Thanks for reading! Have a good day!
