Mothers Day

Steve awoke early in the morning, yawning and stretching his hundred year old bones. He was about to sit up and get out of bed when the door opened, and there stood Peter, holding a tray with breakfast on it.

He frowned in confusement, leaning on his elbows as Peter made his way over, placing the tray on his lap.

"Happy Mother's Day Steve!" Peter said, grinning innocently.

"Thank you Peter, but, why are you giving me breakfast in bed?"

"It's your Mother's Day present, you're like a mum to me so... I'm giving you Mother's Day presents."

"But-"

"Shh mum, eat your breakfast."

Steve chuckled slightly and started eating the breakfast, which was surprisingly good tasting- Peter wasn't the best of cooks normally.

After breakfast was finished, Peter handed him a homemade card that was pink, with 'Happy Mother's Day' written on the front in bubbly handwriting. Inside, Peter had scrawled a note.

Dear Mum, Happy Mother's Day! Thank you for looking out for me, from Peter xxxoooo

Steve felt his heart get all warm, a smile on his face that he was unable to suppress. Peter had never called him mum before, but if that's what he wanted, then Steve would gladly take over the role for him.

The present that accompanied it was something that Steve was sure would make Bucky laugh later on.

It was an apron, pink and frilly, with 'kiss the cook' written across it in cursive writing.

"Thank you Peter, I love it." Steve said, pulling Peter into a tight hug, which Peter obviously hadn't expected, tensing at first but quick to hug him back enthusiastically. Steve had learnt early on that Peter was a hugger, and Tony told him of a time he had opened a car door for Peter and he had hugged him.

One time, he was even stretching his arms above his head and Peter had hugged him.

Everyone thought it was adorable.

"Come on Mum- let's go have some fun." He pulled Steve out of bed, hurriedly grabbing the tray and trying to leave the room so quickly he ran into the closed door, forgetting that it was closed.

Steve chuckled, opening the door for him, the pair heading out into the kitchen.

Tony was already sitting on the couch with Pepper, sipping coffee and whispering things inappropriate for Peter's innocent ears to each other.

It seemed Peter had heard it with his enhanced hearing however, for his face flushed red, hands clapping over his ears as he made a gagging noise, nose wrinkled in disgust.

"Was Tony doing something gross again?" Natasha asked as she walked into the room, still wearing her pyjamas.

"I was just talking to Pepper, I didn't realise the baby spider would be awake so early." Tony scoffed, gesturing to Peter with his coffee cup. Peter just stuck his tongue out at him, hands still over his ears.

"He was giving me a Mother's Day present." Steve said, sitting on the couch.

Clint, who had been sitting on the top of the fridge, fell off the fridge.

"He gave you the Mother's Day present? I was betting on Pepper though!"

"Do you guys bet on everything I do?" Peter asked, pouting.

"It's actually gotten me a lot of money ребенок-паук. (Spiderbaby)" Natasha said. "Except this time. Nobody expected it."

Peter just rolled his eyes, folding his arms.

Steve and Peter spent the whole day together, doing mother-son things that included clothes shopping, though they both ended up getting bored and ended up going to get milkshakes and chips from an old fashioned diner.

It seemed Steve was taking his role as mother extremely seriously.

If Peter thought Steve was a mother hen before, now he was a mother monster.

Peter couldn't leave the tower without wearing a jumper, and Steve picked him up as much as possible from school.

Peter's lunch would be made every morning, which consisted of a salad sandwich, an apple, a homemade muffin and a muesli bar. Sometimes there would also be a juice box if they were on special in the shops that week.

Then, right before Peter left, Steve would say goodbye, kissing his forehead and giving him a quick hug, telling him to have a good day. ]

Everytime Peter got home late from patrol, Steve would even ground him, which was one of the worst things about having Steve as a mother.

And chores. Peter had to keep his bedroom clean now that Steve was caring for him so much, and do his homework the moment he got home.

Steve read all of the emails from the school, and stuck all of Peter's artworks and tests to the fridge.

"It was supposed to be a joke, but he's taken it completely seriously!" Peter told Ned through FaceTime one night, sitting at the desk in his spotless bedroom. "He's even set me a bedtime! On weekdays, I have to go to bed at nine Ned, and on weekends, if I'm too tired, he makes me take naps!"

"Isn't that a good thing though Peter? I mean, before you kind of had free reign, except for things that Tony controlled. You can't just do everything yourself."

"What do you mean?" Peter asked, frowning in confusement.

"Well, Tony's the more laidback parent of them, right? So he didn't really check that you went to bed on time or did your homework or anything, but Steve's more of a strict parent so he makes sure you do those things, because sleep is good for you and doing your homework straight away makes less stress later."

"Eh, I guess." Peter shrugged. "Anyway, are you coming over tomorrow? We can do that new lego set that Tony bought me."

"Sure, I'll be there about ten?"

"Great."

A soft knock was heard at the door, and Peter and Ned stalled their conversation.

"Yeah?" Peter called in answer, so the door was opened, revealing Steve.

"Time for bed Peter, say goodbye to Ned."

"Yes mum." Peter turned and looked back at Ned, bidding goodbye and ending the call.

Steve made sure Peter was in his pyjamas and had brushed his teeth, then tucked him into bed, bidding goodnight.

Even if Peter pretended he didn't like having Steve mothering him all the time, he was secretly happy to have someone care so much about his welbeing.

"So, if you're Peter's mother hen, and I'm your mother hen, does that make me a grandmother?" Bucky asked one afternoon as he and Steve watched the Batchelor, a show they were very into at the moment.

Steve pondered for a moment, eyebrows furrowed slightly, but didn't remove his eyes from the screen.

"Yes." He answered.

"Huh," Bucky said, turning his attention back to the tv, but his thoughts were whirring like the wheels of a bicycle.

When Peter arrived home that day, he was surprised by a heap of knitted things from Bucky, and was also offered several lollies that Bucky pulled out of a red handbag.

"Uh, thank you?" Peter said, a little confused by the way Bucky was suddenly acting.

"Thank you grandma Bucky." Bucky corrected.

"Ned my mum and my grandma are together, and my Dad is with my aunt."

"What the hell Peter?"

A/N Thank you all so much for reading my this book so far :) I know it's still pretty early in the book (I still have so many more chapters planned, so stay tuned) but it makes me smile so much every time I look at how many reads I have (about 300 at the moment). Also thank you to those who have voted, and especially those who have commented. Sorry if I don't answer the comments, I'm just pretty socially awkward so honestly I don't know what to day. Anyway, just wanted to say thank you to you all. Happy reading! Have a good day :)
