Words Can Lie

This was requested by @AnotherOneBiteADust - I'm sorry if it seems like I'm picking and choosing I'm just kinda writing what I feel like right now. Also, prepare for the feels because this is going to be a depressing ride.

"Mr. Stark. I don't feel so good."

Those were the words that were constantly on rewind in Tony's head. The kid - his kid, was gone now. He was so brave, and a symbol of everything that was good in the world for Tony.

"So, if anything, it's really your fault I'm here-"

And it felt like it was Tony's fault. If he had just left Peter on Earth, things could have been different.

Say good-bye

"Tony." It was Pepper. She was there a lot, but Tony was having a hard time continuing to face the press, and the responsibilities. "There's a field trip today. They purchased the VIP Group Pass, and you need to go lead the tour." Tony nodded, preparing to face the world once more.

Tony gave an ecstatic, yet entirely insincere smile to the group of kids in front of him. They were about Peter's age. "Hello there, everyone. I would introduce myself, but I am sure everyone knows who I am." The kids were all in awe, fraught with whispers and excitement.

For the hopelessness eats away

"We're going to start with the famed 'Stark Industries Through the Ages' tour, where you will learn about my progression from a missiles industry to one of the greatest superheroes on Earth." Tony was peppered with questions (pun not intended). He simply waved them off and instructed them to wait until the end of the tour.

When they reached the floor dedicated to history, Tony started narrating the signs put up on the wall. "I created the improved Iron Man suit and started fighting the good fight... I joined up with other superheroes - the Black Widow, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Thor - to fight Thor's brother, Loki. Loki is now, however, affiliated with the Avengers Initiative and is a relatively trusted ally... We defeated Ultron, a highly intelligent supercomputer/android-" Tony paused on the next sign. "Most recently was a battle we named the Infinity War. It is the o-only battle we ever lost, to Thanos, a mad Titan. Many of the newer Avengers and allies were lost, a list is attached here: Loki, Heimdall, Gamora, Vision, Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy - apart from Rocket, Doctor Strange, the Winter Soldier, Falcon, the Scarlet Witch-" He choked out the last name. "And last, but certainly not least, Spider-Man." Tony turned away.

The shadows my only companion                                                                                                                                 In each passing day

"Next we are going to tour the Avengers battle station, where you can see the assorted armory and weaponry we train and use in fights." Tony led them to a museum-style room where weapons were displayed - all sorts of things like Clint's arrows and Nat's Widow's Bites and a replica of Thor's hammer and such.

"You're okay, kid."

Peter wasn't okay.

"Whoa, it's Spider-Man's web shooters! They say he made them himself!" Tony turned to the speaker, a light-haired girl with glasses. Tony saw a familiar face in the crowd - Peter's old friend Ned. He had flinched when the girl spoke. Another girl - MJ - looked down sadly. Tony wasn't sure which would be worse - all three dusted, two dusted and one left to live alone, or just one missing, a link between the trio that vanished. Tony would obviously prefer that they all lived, and his kid wasn't dead.

"Hey, remember when Pen-Peter said he knew Spider-Man?" A tall, black haired boy was snickering. MJ's head whipped up. "CAN you shut the fuck up, Flash? Did it ever occur to you that maybe he wasn't some little kid you should use to make you feel better about your miserable life? And you're speaking ill of the dead - because Peter's gone and trying to bolster your so-called reputation by making fun of him just makes you seem like the obnoxious dumbass you are," MJ yelled. She quickly turned away, though not before Tony could see a tear. "And when he claimed to have an internship here, ha! As if THE Tony Stark would hire someone as lame as-"

"What the fuck did you just say?" Tony's sentence came out as a hiss. "Peter was such a brave person. He saved people's lives,  you know, and you're insulting him like he was nothing. If you don't understand that, you can get the fuck out of my tower right now, and don't EVER think of coming back if you're going to be such an asshole."

But I don't want to live without you

Tony turned and began to walk away, signaling Happy, who had subtly been trailing the group, to take over.

I pray every day

But somehow I'm still here alone, wanting you back

Trying to find a way
