If Only You Would Listen
May doesn't accept that he's Peter not Persephone (trans) and one night during his stay at the tower he plays this song on the piano and Tony heard and he confesses that May abuses him and Peter just misses the old May and then Tony adopts
"Persie?" May's voice called out as she opened the door. Peter's eyes widened as she opened the door to see him putting on a binder. She gasped. "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?!"
Peter winced. "Aunt May, I'm-"
"NOPE! PERSEPHONE BIANCA PARKER YOU ARE A WOMAN AND WILL ALWAYS BE A WOMAN! UNTIL YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT, YOU DON'T BELONG IN THIS HOUSE! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! YOUR UNCLE WOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOU! DO YOU THINK YOUR'E A BOY DO YOU HAVE A BOY NAME OR SOMETHING?! LIKE PETER? PETER? PETER? PETER?"
Peter was shaken awake by Tony. "Peter? Peter?" He shot up in his bed, the baggy sweatshirt he wore to bed drenched in sweat. "Oh, good. Pete, you're awake." Tony let out a breath of relief.
"Tony?" Peter covered himself with the blanket. "What happened?"
"You were screaming, like nonstop. I had to make sure you were okay. You woke up Nat, she nearly came in here with a knife." Peter let out a soft laugh.
"Did I wake everyone up? What time is it? What day is it? When do I go back to my apartment? Do I have school today?"
Tony's eyes met Peter's eyes. "Everyone but Thor who sleeps like a fucking log. It's 7 a.m. on a Saturday so no you don't have school. You came to the tower last night and said that May had.."
"kicked me out." Peter finished quietly. He sniffled when Tony nodded.
"Get ready kid. I've got a meeting, and then I'm gonna take you out to get breakfast at a diner. You can invite your friends if you want." Tony stood and pat Peter's back.
Peter stood once Tony and had left and began to put on his binder. He put on some science shirt and a pair of jeans. He had told May he'd liked the pixie cut style. He went to the principal once, and thankfully no one at his school had felt the way May did, except for Flash. Everyone helped him with his situation.
But now that May kicked him out he didn't trust anyone to be there for him.
Once he was changed, he opened his door to see a small crowd of Avengers near his door. He sent them a glance and walked towards the room he had spent most of his time in the tower in: The music room. He grabbed the acoustic guitar and began to strum as he looked out a window.
"You always talk, talk, talk all the time. You never let me get in a word. I wish I had, I had a dime for every thought I've swallowed unheard. No matter what it is that I do, it's like I just can't seem to get through. I've got so much to say, if only you would listen. I've tried every which way, if only you would listen. Can't you see I'm hurting. I couldn't be more clear. But I promise one day, I'll make you hear."
All Peter could think about was how much he wanted things to go back to normal. But they never would. He felt he was being painfully obvious with how much he wanted to tell May but he never could. He knew how she felt, which is exactly why he never said anything. But even after her raising him, she couldn't even realize when something is wrong when it's painfully obvious.
"You know I try, try, try to explain, I'm not the kid you want me to be. But it's all, it's all in vain. You just don't wanna see the real me. You think you know what I'm all about. And yet you just keep shutting me out!"
Peter had even tried to come out to may on multiple different occasions, but had always chickened out. May always said "I know Persie better than anyone. I brought her up to be the strong beautiful woman she is today!" But she never even tried to get to know the real him.
"I've got so much to share if only you would listen. You could prove that you care, if only you would listen. I'm not gonna beg you, you'll never see a tear. But I promise one day I'll make you hear."
Peter felt the tears, white hot as a fire, brimming in his eyes. He knew the lyrics in the song, and knew they didn't follow with him. He could never make May hear him, see him. His loving Aunt would never come back, she was gone forever.
"Yeah, you'll see one day. I'm gonna make you hear me. Gotta find a way, but you are gonna here me. Got so much to say and I'm gonna make you hear me. Maybe then you'll listen. Maybe then you'll listen. You gotta listen. You gotta listen. You need to listen. You better listen!"
The tears began flowing freely down his face as he thought of all the good memories he had with his aunt. Freshly made cookies, movie nights, study cram sessions, going out on thanksgiving after a burnt turkey, and most of all the memories with her and Ben.
"I've got so much inside. I've got so much inside, if only you would listen.Joy and anger and pride. Joy and anger and pride. If only you would listen. It's not much I'm asking, I only want your ear. Yeah, I promise one day I'll make you hear. It's not much I'm asking, I only want your ear."
Peter closed his eyes, tears pouring out like a river. His song consumed him and he didn't even notice as Tony and the team snuck in and listened to him.
"And I promise one day I'll shake you so damn hard that at last I'll wake you. Yeah, I promise one day I'll make you hear."
He let out the last strum of the song and exhaled. His throat ached. Maybe it was from the loud song, or maybe it was the tears. He wanted May. He wanted May to love and accept him for who he was. Opening his eyes, he slung the guitar star off his shoulder and placed it on the stand. He turned, freezing in place as he saw the crowd he had drawn.
"Pete, that was amazing." Tony looks at him, seeing the stray tear tracks under his eyes. He walked over and pulled the boy into his arms. He wiped his face. "You have nothing to be afraid of. I've known for a little while, and I have no reason to judge you. I love you either way. We all do."
Natasha came over and placed a hand on Peter's back. One by one, the Avengers- his family- came and hugged Peter. He was crying again, but it was joy this time. Maybe he didn't have May anymore, which still hurt, but he had his superfamily, and maybe that was better. Because they accepted him. And that was what he needed.
