Ari
Shoutout to my friend @Marisa_Urie bc we bonded about our fam being lowkey (Loki) homophones when we're gay (I'm bi but something)
Peter sighed as he pulled up his text messages. Numbers, everywhere. Again.
My contacts got deleted. Again. I'm fixing it tomorrow. But right now I got to tell you I really don't want to do it. Peter went his text to Ned and fell onto his bed.
You have to do it!
Uh, why? He probably won't feel the same and get weirded out by this orphan arachnid clinging to him.
Seriously Peter? He totally thinks of you as a son. Here, say exactly what you're going to say to him, practice.
Okay. Well I guess I'd say that I'm really thankful he's been there for me through my whole superhero thing and I'm glad he's a part of my life.
Then?
Assuming he hasn't had Friday throw me out the door?
Have you met Mr. Stark?
Fine. I'll say thank you for having my back in and out of battle. For teaching me fighting techniques, for having movie nights with me, for helping with my anxiety, getting me the therapist I've needed al my life, helping me come down from my sensory overloads, and just overall being for me.
Then what?
Dude, I'll be being pushed out the door by then. Me. Stark isn't exactly fond of emotion. He's never given me more than a high five unless I'm having a panic attack and need tough to ground me.
Dude, I'm sure he sees you as his son no matter how much affection he gives you. He just isn't a touchy-feely person. What else will you say?
I'll thank him for being the father figure I needed in my life and then give him the thing I made for him, TBN.
TBN? Boo let's name it BB8
It's a rehab box dude. I'll name it now, but what should I name it
Rehabilitation Artificial Intelligence Nursing Coach Achieves Terrific Statistics or Raincoats.
You're kidding right?
No. He'll love it. It's just like Friday or Jarvis. A funky acronym for a name.
What about Rehabilitation Artificial Intelligence Learning Recovery Often Aids Drug Strugglers.
Railroads?
Yeah, that's dumb. How about Addiction Rehabilitation Robot Operative Nurture?
Aaron?
No, what about Artificial Rehabilitation Initiator Assists Needing Nurses Alleviate. Arianna, but we could just call her Ari.
I think that's perfect. He'll love it no matter what name you give it. But Raincoats is still better
Now that we chose the name Ari, it's she.
Alright, whatever name you give her. I've got to go. Don't chicken out and tell me everything!
I'll tell you everything, don't worry. Go ahead, your moms probably making dinner. I have to go anyway.
See you on Monday.
Peter shook his head and began to put his things in his backpack. He heard the honk of a car horn in three quick beeps, which was Happy's code for hurry up.
He smiled as he ran down the stairs to get in the car. He held Ari carefully in his hands and flung himself into the backseat. "Hey Happy! Me and Ned named my rehab robot! Ari. You like it? I should put it in her code."
Happy rolled his eyes and pressed a button, sliding up the divider. Peter pulled out his phone and started editing her code to reflect the name.
He had just finished his last piece of coding as they pulled into the compound. "Thanks Happy!" He Calle Dover his shoulder as he dashed into the building, straight to the elevator.
"Hello Peter." Friday said.
"Hey, Fri. Take me to Mr. Stark's lab please. Also," He held the small cube in his hand and showed it to the ceiling. "This is Ari, short for Arianna. Which stands for Artificial Rehabilitation Initiator Assists Needing Nurses Alleviate."
"Welcome to the compound, Ari." Ari whirred to life, a small ring slowly revealing itself, coming out of the top of the box. It flowed blue.
"Hello, Friday." Came her voice. (Ari is voices by Sandra Bullocks) "It is a pleasure to meet you."
"You as well." Peter smiled at the two A.I.'s getting along.
"Ari, go to sleep." The ring slowly retreated into the box and the glowing stopped. The doors opened to reveal Tony hunched over a blueprint.
"Alright Mr. Stark I have things to say and it includes a lot of feeling and a gift. Put your pencil down and pay attention because I will talk fast." Tony turned, surprised and put his pen down.
"Alright, kid. You've got my attention."
"Okay. I'm really thankful that you've been with me through my whole superhero thing and I'm glad that you're a part of my life. Thank you for having my back, both in and out of battle. You've done so much for me. You taught me fighting techniques, had movie nights with me, helped with my sensory overloads and anxiety, you got me a good therapist and you've just been there for me. Thank you for being a great father figure for me. I made you this, her name is Ari." He put the box down on the desk after his long winded rant and took a breath.
"Wait, you think of me as a father figure?" Peter but his lip, regretting it. He made eye contact with his shoes.
"Uh, maybe?"
"Thank God. I really hoped I wasn't being weird by thinking of you as my son. Come here." Tony held his arms out to Peter, who dove into him with a hug.
They pulled away a few minutes later, smiling like idiots. "So tell me about Ari."
"Okay, her name is Artificial Rehabilitation Initiator Assists Needing Nurses Alleviate. She is assigned to a patient that is working to combat addiction, ptsd, and other things. Like a service dog, but a robot. Watch this. Ari, wake up."
The little ring popped and glowed once more, looking like a sort of halo. "Hello Doctor Stark. It's a pleasure to meet you. Do you need assistance?"
Tony grinned. "No, I'm alright Ari. It's a pleasure to meet you to, though you could call me Tony. Could you go through how you work for me. Coding and things like that?"
Ari began to talk techno jargon to Tony, who took it all in like it was candy on Halloween night for a six year old.
"Thanks, dad."
