PAIRING: Peter Parker x Reader

PROMPT: Peter begins to notice the reader more after saving her as Spider-Man one night.

WORDS: 1467 (oops😬)

—————————————————

Peter Parker's ears would perk up with even the mere mention of Spider-Man's name.

He was always curious as to what people thought of his alter ego.

Whether it was criticism or praise, it was important for him to listen.

But when (Y/N) walked into chemistry class it wasn't her words that caught Peter's attention but rather the papers in her hand.

The familiar local superhero's masked face sketched on one of them.

(Y/N) was someone that only recently had sparked Peter's interest.

He used to not notice her as much.

Sure she was a pretty and smart girl, but Peter had preferred another girl over her.

As for (Y/N), Peter was never on her mind.

Always just being that boy that she had some classes with.

Nothing more.

It wasn't until one fateful incident that brought these two together.

The night of the incident had been a colder one.

(Y/N) clutched onto her jacket as she walked the dark streets at night.

Her friend ditching her at the library and a dead phone battery had forced the young lady to embark on this semi dangerous journey.

(Y/N) walked quickly, passing creepy alleyways and making no eye contact.

She was three quarters of the way to the apartment when she was stopped.

An older looking man approached her asking for money.

The girl was quick to say no and tried to continue on her route.

But the man was persistent.

Accusing (Y/N) of having money that she insisted on not having.
The man didn't hesitate to grab onto (Y/N)'s wrist when she tried to walk away.

Her pleads to the man were heard by Peter during his night patrol.

He swung down to the ground telling the man to leave the girl alone.

The man didn't listen to the hero and challenged him instead.

Other men walked around the corner bearing knives and other weapon-like objects.

Noticing the quantity of the fearless predators, realizing that he might not be able to protect the girl if he attacked them.

Instead, he swiftly wrapped an arm around the girl's waist and shot a web to swing away.

(Y/N), shocked by the hero's actions, wrapped her arms tightly around his neck.

Her eyes gaze upon the hero's face with admiration.

Her mind was somewhere else, allowing her to not pay attention to herself slipping from his grip.

Peter grabbed her hand, swinging closer to the ground to let her drop down easily.

"I've got you," he reassured her.

Peter dropped down next to her.

"I'm sorry about that. I—" He stops talking when he finally recognizes the girl.

She went to his school.

(Y/N) thanked him for his bravery and he welcomed her with a thicker New Yorker accent.

(Y/N) watched as he swung away, still processing what happened.

A smile came across her lips of the thought of his arm wrapped tightly around her waist.

She had never encountered Spider-Man before, only hearing stories, but she knew that from that day on she would never feel the same about the hero.

A week had past since the incident.

Both parties changed from it.

Peter now noticed (Y/N) all over the school, never talking to her but just silently observing every once in a while.

Now with Liz gone Peter's feelings were free to wander.

(Y/N), on the other hand, gained more than just and adoration for Spider-Man.

She continuously tried to convince (B/F/N), her best friend, of the events that took place.

Of course it couldn't help that she would completely romanticized the whole story.

One week was enough to convince her friend that she was insane about him.

But (Y/N) didn't just stop with (B/F/N), she told the tale to anyone who would listen.

And those people would tell others, and so on until most of the school had heard the story.

It wasn't until Flash Thompson heard the story did (Y/N)'s classmates start to make fun of her.

"Like you actually met Spider-Man," Flash ridiculed her one time in the halls.

(Y/N) almost felt embarrassed about sharing the story.

Almost.

But she still didn't hide her love for the hero.

When bored in class she would try to draw the hero's masked face as she remembered it.

Peter saw the sketch and began to feel bad for the girl.

He had seen her being made fun of but was unsure whether to step in.

He didn't want to draw attention to himself, especially when it came to Flash, but also because he didn't want to draw any suspicion to himself around the topic of Spider-Man.

Peter finally decided to reach a hand out to her.

He had spotted her searching for a place to sit during lunch.

(B/F/N) wasn't there that day, so she was left to meander the cafeteria.

"(Y/N)!" He shouted. Ned and Michelle followed his gaze to the lost girl.

Only Ned knew of the girl and how Peter had saved her.

(Y/N) walked over to the table cautiously.

She had never really spoken to these classmates before so she wasn't sure as to why they were summoning her over.

"You can sit with us if you'd like," Peter told her.

She didn't speak but just nodded her head, sat down and placed her stuff on the table.

After a long silence and stares from the three pairs of eyes (Y/N) spoke up.

"If you're just going to make fun of me about the whole Spider-Man thing, I'll leave," she says out loud, not wanting to deal with ridicule any longer.

Peter, Ned, and Michelle all said at the same time how that was none of their intentions.

They ate their lunches without talking until Michelle decided to ask the question.

"If you don't mind me asking, what happened between you and Spider-Man?" Michelle asked.

(Y/N) took a deep breath.

The tone of the other girl's voice showed that she wasn't joking, that she was genuinely curious.

Slowly (Y/N) began, with excitement, explaining the story animatedly.

Peter shifted in his seat multiple times.

"And then I held onto him tightly as he swung me to safety and it was just so," she paused to find the right word, "exhilarating."

Michelle nodded her head but the two boys were still trying to process her version of the story.

"Wow. So you really have a thing for Spider-Man?" Michelle asks. A smile plastered on her face to show that she wasn't mocking the girl.

"I don't know. There's just something about him," (Y/N) rests her chin on her hand. A small grin takes over her facial expression as she thinks about the hero.

Ned and Peter share a look.

(Y/N) lifts up her head and looks at Ned.

"Ned you must know Spider-Man," she says.

"What?!" Both Peter and Ned yell out with wide eyes.

She gives both boys a weird look.

"Because you were on the elevator in Washington," she clarifies.

The boys visibly relax at her clarification.

"Oh," Ned says.

"What did you think of him?" (Y/N) asks the nervous boy.

"Uh," Ned looks at the eyes waiting for him to answer.

Peter's being the most alarmed.

"I thought he was a real cool dude," he finally says.

(Y/N) nods her head, realizing that she wasn't going to get any more than a simple compliment from the boy.

The lunch bell rang and Y/N and Michelle walked away to their next classes.

Peter and Ned stayed behind.

"You should tell her," Ned says as Peter was watching the two girls exit the cafeteria.

His head snaps in his friend's direction.

"What? Are you crazy? That's a terrible idea," Peter rambles.

"Why not? She's like in love with you," Ned argues.

"She doesn't love me, she loves," he pauses to lower his voice, "Spider-Man."

"Dude, you are Spider-Man," Ned points out.

"Ned!" Peter quickly turns his head to see if anyone noticed. "Say it louder why don't you?" He mutters to Ned.

"Look, it's not every day that a really pretty girl falls in love with your secret identity. You can't just do nothing about it!" Ned insisted.

Peter took a second to absorb Ned's words.

"I don't even know her all that well," he states.

"Then maybe Spider-Man could try to learn more about her," Ned suggests.

Both boys began walking out of the cafeteria.

"Maybe," Peter mumbles.
