Peter ran a hand through his hair nervously and sighed. "Why do I have to do this again, Dad?"
"You don't have to if you don't want to, but I want you to meet my siblings." Loki answered, smoothing down his black suit. "Stop messing with your hair, you've got nothing to worry about. They'll love you."
Peter raised an eyebrow and looked at himself in the mirror one last time before nodding. "Okay. I'm ready, let's go."
The pair walked out of their apartment in Queens and walked towards the subway. Peter started thinking about all that they'd been through.
Several years before Thanos forced Loki to attack New York, Peter had been born to Loki and his mother (who was Loki's wife, but that was on the down-low). Then, Loki had learned that he was a frost giant and panicked, leaving the two for a few years. He continued with falling off of the Bifrost, being taken prisoner by Thanos and made to attack New York, all that.
After New York, Loki had spent some time in the Asgardian prison. He tried to get in contact with Peter and his wife, but he only succeeded a few times.
Then, he had the opportunity to fake his death. Loki did, and disguised himself as Odin. He brought Peter and his mother up to Asgard, and made a place for them. No one knew, but people suspected.
Loki loved it. He wrote plays, had fun, went home to his son and wife. Life was perfect, and for once he was enjoying it. Then, as usual, Thor showed up and ruined it.
Once Loki had learned about Hela, he was petrified. His son was there. His wife was there, his entire world, everything he loved, was on Asgard, and so was his homicidal sister. Thor was a little puzzled at Loki's concern and sudden desire to be good, but he brushed it off.
Turns out Hela wasn't as bad as the brothers had thought, though, and once you got past the general coldness from being locked away for eons, she was pretty chill. So, they reasoned with her, got Surtur to destroy Asgard, and the royalty, along with all of the Asgardian refugees, boarded a spaceship and left.
Loki had immediately left to check on his family, only to find out that his wife had been killed. The citizens, by now, were fully aware of Loki's family, and ushered Peter forward. Loki had knelt and held Peter close, crying against the child's hair, vowing to never leave Peter again.
From then, it was just the two of them against the world. Loki hid Peter from Thor, and left as soon as the ship reached Earth. In the years since then he had dropped off contact with his siblings, to protect Peter, the only thing remaining of his life that he had had before. Loki missed his wife every day, but Peter made him smile despite the constant reminder of the love that had been so rudely taken from him.
Peter was great in school, he was smart, joined a bunch of clubs. Spider-Man had been an unexpected addition, but Loki loved his little hero child and occasionally would help out from the shadows.
However, a month before now, when Peter and Loki were entering the Subway, Thor had finally found out where his brother was, and reached out. Loki was apprehensive, but realized that he missed his brother.
Gradually, he got close with Thor again, and made up with Hela. Although, he may have accidentally told them about Peter because he said he needed to leave since 'That math club thing is ending in ten minutes.'
So, of course, Thor had demanded (gently) to meet his nephew, and Hela was just as eager, though she was better at hiding it. Now, Loki and Peter were off to visit Thor and Hela at the Avengers Compound. Tony hadn't been too happy about Hela living there, but he got over it (the convincing may have taken some knives...).
Peter was nervous. This was his first time meeting his Aunt and Uncle, and was hesitant about it. The stories that his father had told him about all of their adventures were one thing, but actually meeting them?
It was almost as nerve-wracking as meeting all of the Avengers, all of whom were very curious as to Spider-Man's identity.
Oh wait, he was doing that, too.
Loki slung an arm around Peter's shoulders, sensing the teen's nerves rising. "It'll be fine, Pete. They'll all love you. Everyone does."
"And what if they don't? Not everyone likes me." Peter asked, looking up at his dad.
"Then I'll stab them." Loki reasoned. "Also, who doesn't like you?"
"I don't know, people." Peter said vaguely.
Loki gave his son a look. "No seriously. Who? I want names. And, preferably, addresses."
Peter laughed, and soon the two got off at their stop, where one of Tony's drivers was going to pick them up and drive them the rest of the way.
The car ride was spent in silence before the driver squinted in the mirror at Peter. Loki got defensive, but the driver (Sad? No, his name was Happy) just shrugged.
"Sorry, he just looks familiar, like someone that Boss has me trail sometimes. Probably not, though."
Loki narrowed his eyes and put an arm around Peter again, but the car was quiet for the rest of the trip.
The two Asgardians got out of the car and walked into the building. Thor was waiting there to escort them to the upper floors, and immediately went over to hug Loki.
"Brother, it has been too long! I can't believe I'm finally seeing you!"
Loki grinned awkwardly, giving Thor a thumbs up.
Thor's eyes shifted to Peter as they got in the elevator. "And here is my young nephew! Peter, right?"
Peter nodded. "Yup, that's me. Nice to meet you too," he paused for a moment, "Uncle Thor."
Thor's grin widened, and he seemed so impossibly happy. "Hela is waiting with my comrades. We best hurry or there'll be blood. You and her are very similar, Loki!"
Right on cue, the elevator doors opened.
The atmosphere that the trio walked into was not a comfortable one. Hela was perched on a couch, pointing a knife at Tony, who was on the opposite couch. The very air was hostile, and Loki's dad instincts kicked in on literal adults.
"Hey, put the knife down. We can use our words to tell how we feel, right? No need for violence in this situation."
Hela scowled, but dropped the weapon. "Stark makes me feel homicidal."
Tony gasped. "Yeah? Well... Hela makes me feel disgusted, cause of her stupid face and her weird make-up."
The two went back to arguing, not quite realizing that it was Loki who was trying to calm them down.
Suddenly, they stopped, whipping their heads around.
Oh, so they noticed.
"Hello, brother." Hela said regally. "Nice of you to show up."
Loki tilted his head in acknowledgement. "Nice of you to act your age."
Hela hissed, but stopped when she spotted Peter. "Oh, that's the child. Hello, child."
"Hi, uh... Auntie Hela." Peter said nervously, still internalizing the scene before him.
She nodded. "He will do. I'm glad that dad's horrible parenting didn't pass down to you, Loki."
Loki gave out a laugh. "As am I, as am I."
Tony interrupted. "Hold on, Loki as a kid? as in... a real live kid? I thought you were joking, Thor! By the way, where's he from? One night stand, twisted Romeo-Juliet love story...?"
Loki stiffened, and Thor went to stop him from answering, but was also curious. Loki had failed to mention Peter's mother.
"Unlike you, Stark, I do not sink to the level of one-time romances. My wife was a lovely lady and I loved her very much, but she has now... left us."
"Ouch, dumped you with a kid and just left?" Tony snickered.
"Dead." Loki said coldly.
The room was silent for a while before Tony left the room with a mutter to indicate where he was going.
It was clear that no one else was going to break the sad atmosphere, so Peter did. "So, who wants to play monopoly?"
Loki's eyes widened, and went to reject the suggestion. "No, that ended bad last time-"
Thor laughed and clapped Loki on the shoulder. "Don't be such a coward, brother! Let us play this 'monopoly!'"
~
Just like Loki had said, it didn't go well.
Two hours in and Hela was screaming about how awful this game was while simultaneously threatening Loki to give her all his money, Loki was yelling right back that he'd rather die ("and believe me, I've died before!" "Yeah? Well I'm the goddess of death!") , Thor was somehow landing on all the properties while also getting a bunch of money, and Peter was laughing at it all while scamming his Aunt and Uncle since they didn't really get the rules (Loki did, he just thought it was funny).
Peter ended up winning, after a fierce showdown between him and his father.
"That was fun! What now, Peter?" Thor asked happily. Hela and Loki were still glaring at each other, but in a good natured way.
"Maybe smoothies?" Peter suggested, since he was getting a little hungry and he made them all the time with Loki.
Loki got up to get the supplies, then turned to squint at his siblings. "You take the other blender, Peter. We're gonna need a lot."
So, some yogurt, milk, and frozen fruit later, the four people were sitting on one of the Compound's balconies, sipping light pink smoothies.
It was quiet, for once, in the building, except for the faint noise of slurping as Thor tried to drink his smoothie.
The silence didn't last long, and neither did the smoothies, so soon the group was thinking of other things to do.
"Let's play two truths one lie!" Peter said brightly. After the others nodded, he explained the rules and they started. Thor went first.
"I fought a Bilgesnipe and got out unscathed, I would die for Peter if asked right now, and I made a memorial for all of the fallen Asgardians."
Hela thought the third one was a lie, Peter refrained from deciding, and Loki just laughed. "First one's the lie. I'm the one that healed your broken leg, stupid."
Thor laughed too, and then it was Loki's turn.
"I frequently watch Disney movies with Peter and enjoy them, I got married on Thor's birthday since I knew no one would notice my absence from the palace, and my eyes are blue."
Thor laughed. "I remember you at all of my birthdays-"
"His eyes are green." Hela interrupted, and Peter gasped.
"I knew you liked Lion King!" He accused, pointing a finger at Loki.
Thor just looked sad. "You truly got married on my birthday? And no one noticed your absence?"
"Yes." Loki said fondly. "Sigyn dared me to not cast an illusion of my appearance in an attempt to prove that Odin cared. I didn't even care, though, that no one noticed, because I finally married the love of my life."
"Sigyn?" Thor asked. "That was her name?"
Loki just nodded, consumed in memories.
"I'll go next." Said Hela. "Fenris' lady pal had a litter and now I've got giant puppies everywhere in the underworld, I run a blog, and I frequently summon Odin in zombie form just to make him do stupid stuff."
Only Thor got this one right.
"I actually run three blogs, and they are quite successful. My incorrect quotes do particularly well." After urged to tell more about the zombie part, "oh, I've done it all. Made him serve me my meals, clean my bathroom, do cartwheels, walk around and try to befriend the demons. I can't do it all the time, though. Valhalla and I got half-custody of his soul, since he technically didn't die in battle, but he's Odin, so..."
Peter was last, and he figured that they were gonna find out about Spider-Man eventually, so, why not win?
"I once got an entire building collapsed on me, I like candy canes, and I midnight as a Queens-based vigilante clothed in red and blue."
Loki narrowed his eyes. "What collapsed on you? Why am I just hearing about this now?"
"Because that is the lie, brother!" Thor suggested.
Hela shook her head. "No, that means he's Spider-Man, and there's no way-"
"I actually am, I can't stand candy canes." Peter said brightly, and a large crash sounded form behind them.
Tony was there, the clang had been a fallen piece of metal form his hands. "You're telling me that not only does Loki have a kid, a happy kid, but that kid is the one that's been avoiding all of the Avengers with little effort? I've been bested by a kid that I can't adopt?"
"Sure am!" Peter said, turning back to the others. "What now?"
Loki grimaced. "It's actually getting a little dark-"
"You can stay here tonight!" Thor said loudly.
Peter gasped and turned to his father. "Oh, can we? You can teleport and grab some clothes tomorrow. Please?"
Loki melted at the big brown eyes that so closely resembles Sigyn's. "Fine. But only if Tony says yes, since it's his building."
Tony didn't dare deny them a place to stay, so the night was filled with fun games and tasty candy.
Turns out that Loki was right, they did love Peter. And to be fair, Peter loved his dysfunctional family right back. <3
