Loki was laying on the ground of a spaceship. It was hot, unbearably so, only amplified by the fact that he was a frost giant. He struggled to get air through his windpipes. Was this how he was to die?

He couldn't move, he couldn't see Thor. What was happening?

He couldn't hear much, either, and before he knew what was going on, the temperature began to increase. He was sweating, panting, and then...

nothing.

Loki's body was flung into the deep void of space as the ship exploded, and steadily he got his hearing back. Not that there was much to hear, of course. His breath came even slower now, and soon his eyes closed, not expecting them to open again.

* * *

"He's waking up. Go get Elle-Nor."

Who was that?

Loki pried his eyes open, and let them fall back closed quickly when they were greeted with a blinding light.

"Lower the lights. Quickly, now!"

Stop that. Noisy mortals.

He tried again, finding that when he opened his eyes this time the lights had been dimmed, and he could keep his eyes open. Loki tried to speak, but his voice wouldn't cooperate.

The door to the room that he was in opened, and a tall woman strode in, followed quickly by a shorter one. The male, that had been giving orders, nodded in acknowledgement before he spoke.

"Elle-Nor, I'm glad you make it. The patient has woken up."

Elle-Nor, the taller woman, apparently, flashed a grin. "Good, we can finally get some answers, maybe."

Loki's blood ran cold. Answers? Odin's beard, were they going to hold him prisoner? Torture him? Keep him in a furnace until he passes out? Where they gonna-

As his heart rate picked up and the machines began to beep wildly, the woman paused. She saw Loki squirming in a panic, and her mouth formed a little 'o'.

Now, she addressed Loki. "No harm will come to you, I can assure you. You've been out for a while, one of our patrolers picked you up in some wreckage and brought you here. We aren't sure who you are, but we've nursed you back to health," Elle-Nor paused. "Er, we didn't really do anything. You were in a coma and although you were brought to us in critical condition, you seem to have," Now she was floundering, "You seem to have healed  yourself. To be honest, we didn't expect you to wake up."

Loki wet his lips nervously. He cleared his throat and managed to get out a question, "Where am I?"

"You are on the planet of Hala, home of the Kree." The male spoke. "But, more importantly, who are you?"

The shorter... Kree brought Loki a small glass of what appeared to be water. He drank it slowly before he answered.

"I am Loki, god of Mischief, Prince of Asgard-"

"So you're Asgardian?" Elle-Nor asked.

Loki squirmed where he lay. "Jotun."

"Ah. You said you're a god? Is that why you could heal yourself?" She questioned.

"I would assume so. How long have I been out?" Loki began studying the room, looking for an exit.

Elle-Nor answered his query, "You were found about a year ago."

A year? Was Thor okay?

Before Loki could ask more, "I'm sorry, but I must leave. We're a bit short-staffed since... you know." She shared an uneasy glance with the male in the room before she and the smaller female exited the room in a hurry.

"Since what?" Loki asked harshly.

"Since the snap. Thanos collected the Infinity Stones, and, well, now half the population of planets have been dusted away."

Loki paled at the mention of Thanos, but recovered. "I need to get out of here." He swung his legs over the side of the bed and ripped off the wires that had been connected to him. "I need to find Thor, I've got to-"

"What? No, you have to stay here, you're in no condition- did you say Thor?" The man asked.

Loki nodded, confused. "What does my brother have to do with this?"

The male reached into his pocket and pulled out a communication device that Loki had not seen before. He clicked a button and then spoke in to it. "Call Vers. She needs to get here immediately."

* * *

Loki wasn't a fan of waiting, and being told to stay in a boring white room made it even worse. He was impressed that he had managed to wait a few weeks, but he doubted that another week would pass before he stabbed something.

He still was discombobulated. Who was Vers? Was Thor even still alive? How were the realms faring? It killed Loki to not know.

He sat in the plain room that reminded him oh so much of the cell in Asgard, thinking. He practiced his magic, his trickery, anything to take his mind off of how little control he had right now. It was all just so frustrating.

The door opened and Loki lifted his head. The male, who Loki had learned was named Jonath, entered and was followed by a woman.

Her blonde hair was chopped short, and her colors were not the pale green of the Kree army. They were vibrant, red, blue, and yellow screaming in Loki's face. She radiated an air of confidence, and already Loki could tell that her company would be one of good fun.

She stuck out a hand. "Carol Danvers, people on earth call me Captain Marvel. Here, people still use Vers. Nice to meet you."

Loki shook her hand, "A pleasure, of course, m'lady. If I may, when can I leave this place and hop on a ship bound for Earth? Not that you haven't been accommodating, but I'm searching for my brother-"

"Thor? Yeah, he's on Earth. I've heard of you, from him. Attacked New York, huh? That takes guts."

Being interrupted was not something Loki liked. Regardless, the mention of New York made him tilt his head back and sigh. "As he has assumed, I was not... in control of my actions at that time."

"Assumed? Are you saying he's wrong?" Carol asked, crossing her arms and taking a wider stance.

Holding his hands up, Loki continued. "I am a master of lies. I was not given a trial because how does one find the truth from a man who was raised on lies? Thor has found right, although he knows not the whole story."

"Alright, I'll bite. What happened?"

"That is not something I speak lightly of. It was... traumatic, at the least." Loki winced at the memories.

Danvers nodded. "Cool. Listen, I can't really  take you to Thor right now, but I could use some help getting order to the rest of the universe. You can tag along if you want, but one toe out of line..." Her closed fists began to flare up, and Loki could feel his face flush at the heat.

"If you could refrain from doing that, I'm quite sensitive to heat... Much obliged. Now, when do we leave?" Loki could feel the grin that overtook his face, and the air around him, quite literally, began to spark with green flecks at his excitement. He'd escape to find Thor, but this was his way to escape this planet without ant trouble.

* * *

She wasn't so bad, Loki supposed. Carol was actually pretty neat to hang out with, and they made a good team. They'd been fighting for about two years now, and they were making insane progress.

Loki was a little mad that Carol constantly skirted around the subject of Thor. He understood why she refrained from telling the remaining Avengers about him, but a small part of him wanted the truth to be out.

A very small part, admittedly, but it existed.

The two of them were on a small planet right now, and it was hot. It wasn't terrible, as long as he wasn't there for very long. They were supposed to be there for about an hour, so Loki'd be fine.

Sweat rolled down his forehead as Loki twirled his dagger in his hand. It glinted, not unlike the twinkle in his eye, and he threw it into the trunk of a tree. Carol had left him here while she went to go do some political stuff.

She had learned early on that Loki had a limited patience when it came to the formalities of politics.

He would start tremendously, very polite, until the moment that someone would bore him. It might be a personal question, ignorance at a subject, or perhaps he just thought to jazz up the meeting with a knife.

So, yeah. He got left behind pretty quickly.

He didn't mind, he liked the time to himself. Loki would have escaped, but he actually liked hanging out with  Carol. She didn't judge him for what he had no control over, and she reminded him of Valkyrie.

The time alone he used to train, either his magic or his daggers. It calmed him down, helped him forget about everything that went wrong.

Loki paused for a moment, feeling the heat getting back to him. He wiped his forehead, and crouched down close to the ground. He moved to lean against a tree, feeling his breath coming in short gasps.

Hopefully Carol wouldn't be much longer. She had already been longer than she said it would be, three hours?

Oh, boy.

Loki tapped his head against the tree, and extended his legs until they were parallel to the grass. He used a little magic, of which was in short supply, to cool himself down momentarily.

After that, he just sat there like a salted slug, miserable and useless.

He could feel himself drifting off to sleep, and found himself actually a little sad that Carol wasn't back yet. Not mad, not disappointed. Sad.

Loki groaned. He hated feeling sad. He hadn't felt that way in a long time, not since before he started touring the galaxy with Carol.

Loki tried to open his eyes because he heard a quiet voice.

"Loki? Oh my god, Loki, are you okay?"

The man in question felt a lazy smile take over his face. "Yeah... yeah. yeah, I think... I think so. Yeah, I'm okay."

Carol shook his shoulders. "No you aren't. Loki, get up. C'mon, buddy. Let's get back to the ship."

Loki felt himself being pulled up from the ground and slumped over Carol's shoulder, like some sort of child.

He didn't like that.

He made a slight noise of dissatisfaction, but Carol just ignored him. "You big drama queen. Come on, Diva."

Loki didn't really pay attention to where they went. He just knew that he felt hot, then cold, then unbearably warm. He couldn't stop moving, and his shifting on some surface made the metal dig into his back.

Then, finally, a blast of freezing air hit him and he let out a happy sigh. The cold mist surrounded him and he felt his muscles relax. Was this heaven? Couldn't be, he'd end up in hell and it was too cold and nice to be that.

Shaking a little bit, Loki opened his eyes and sat up. He was in a little glass coffin.... thing. He didn't like that one bit. Just as he was starting to feel claustrophobic, the glass opened and he rolled onto the floor with a yelp.

He stopped rolling at Carol's feet and got up. He pointed to the cooling coffin and asked, "Where'd you get that? Pretty useful."

Carol nodded, "Yeah. Tony Stark made it. Asked a few questions as to why I wanted it, but I figured we could use it."

Loki seemed surprised. "Stark?"

"Uh huh. You don't still hate him, do you?"

"Hate him? I never did. He was the only one that Tha... that my captor feared. I respected him more than I ever respected my father."

Carol gave a little noise of surprise. "Got daddy issues, huh? Don't we all."

* * *

They continued going on missions for another few months, and eventually Loki was allowed to go to political meetings again. He was on his best behavior, and was very good at getting others to agree with him.

Manipulative, but in a good way. That was Loki!

~

Loki and Carol had a day or two to themselves a little while later, and were just chilling when Loki sat up quickly.

"What's up, Murder Boy?"

Loki just looked around wildly, like a dog who just smelled a steak.

This time, Carol sat up slowly.

Loki finally spoke. "Magic. I can sense it. Not mine."

Carol was going to ask another question, but behind Loki, a ring of orange sparks opened up. Stephen Strange walked out and Loki whirled around.

"Hello, Danvers. And Odinson, what a surprise, I thought you were dead."

"I thought the same about you. What's going on?" Loki asked, getting out his daggers.

Strange began to explain, "They created a time machine. Got the stones, snapped everyone back. But Thanos followed them. I don't know how, right now, but there's going to be a big fight and we need all hands on deck. I'll have portals ready for you two in a bit."

"I'll just fly. We aren't that far off anyway." Carol said, and Loki reluctantly turned to look at Strange.

"Your brother is there." He said, looking Loki in the eye and turning around to leave, "You have a few minutes, but hurry and get ready."

Loki softened at the mention of his brother. He went over his options, but ultimately decided to get prepared. Daggers, Cape, Boots, Helmet, and stuff for a dramatic flare.

The minutes flew by, and before he knew it there was an orange portal opening up. Loki took a breath, stepped through it, and found himself on a battlefield, dark and filled with rubble.

He looked to his left, and saw Thor. Thor was staring at Loki, not believing his eyes.

"Loki?" It was a soft whisper, from someone who dared not hope, a delicate plea for him to not he dreaming.

Loki, in turn, gave a small smile. Thor looked bad, not healthy, but still, Loki said,

"I'm here, Brother."

~

The fight broke out quite soon after their interaction, but Loki was happy for the distraction. His daggers were flying, his magic piercing, and for all of the violence, he was enjoying himself.

Valkyrie flew by on a Pegasus. "Hey there, brat. I see you're alive."

Loki grinned. "Couldn't stay dead. I've got someone for you to meet. She's late, but she'll be here soon."

She gave an odd look but flew off, and Loki went back to fighting. He was laughing, he hadn't had this much fun in a while.

He turned to find where Thanos was, before beginning to cut a path to him. Revenge. That's what he needed, was revenge.

Thanos saw Loki, and tilted his head in recognition. "Laufeyson. I thought you were chained up in Asgard."

Loki gave a wicked smirk. "Not anymore."

He fought Thanos for a good while before he felt someone else approach. He could feel the rage coming off of this person in waves of fury, and Loki knew that they needed revenge more than he.

So, Loki stepped back and met the eyes of Wanda Maximoff.

He could also feel her magic, coursing through her veins like liquid gold.

Loki waved a hand towards Thanos. "All yours."

Wanda spared a smile to Loki before red surrounded her. Her rage grew, her fear gone. All she wanted was for Thanos to pay. "You took everything from me."

Thanos looked at her. "I don't even know who you are!"

"You will."

Loki moved around the battlefield but startled at the sound of moving metal. He saw the guns of Thanos' ship moving to aim at the battlefield, and his eyes widened. He rounded up as many of the people around him as he could before putting up a shield to protect them.

The guns started firing, and Loki held up the green shield. He could feel it weakening, but he knew he had to keep it strong.

Just as he felt he had to let go, a large noise caught his attention.

It was the ships being destroyed, and Loki recognized who was doing the wrecking. Carol, his friend.

Loki smiled and let the shield drop and he rolled onto his back and stayed there for a little bit. A small female in green clothes and antennae knelt beside him. She had been under his shield.

"How do you live with such pain? I can feel it, and it hurts." She asked.

His mind flashed to all that had happened in his young life before turning to look at her and speaking softly.

"I'm used to it."

They didn't get to talk anymore because Thor came over, belly flapping and beard waving. "Brother! Are you alright?"

"Yes, Thor, I'm fine." Loki said. Thor didn't seem convinced since Loki remained on the dusty ground, so he rolled and stood up with a wince.

Loki's eyes moved over to where Carol was, fighting Thanos. He knew she had this handled. He shouted, "You got this, Danvers!"

She looked back to acknowledge him before continuing to fight.

The battlefield was quiet where Loki stood with his brother, so he took the time to survey the land. Then, he suddenly understood.

"He's going to take the stones. He's gonna snap."

Thor went to ask what he meant, but Loki had already set off at a dead sprint, towards Tony Stark.

He didn't stop Tony from snapping, but he got as close as he could. He knew that this was the one way to win, but Loki was determined to keep Stark alive. He had heard of Tony having a daughter, and no one deserves to live without a caring father.

Stark leaned against a piece of rubble as the enemy faded away in a cloud of dust. They began to say their goodbyes, but Loki pushed forward.

Steve Rogers tried to hold him back.

"I can heal him!" Loki argued, and Rogers was so surprised at it that Loki was able to push past him.

Loki reached where the family was and Pepper turned to look at him. "Have you changed?" She asked, cautiously.

"You never met me to begin with." Loki answered, and Pepper let him crouch beside Stark. She had nothing to loose, anyway.

Loki looked over the damage and felt himself grimace, but he let his magic flow into Tony Stark and begin to repair the deadly wounds.

Stark began to stir, and didn't react much to Loki. Loki felt himself get lightheaded, but Stark wasn't ready yet. Finally, as Tony began to reach a point where Loki could step away, he did. Loki stepped back, or stumbled, more like, and Thor reached out to support him.

Pepper looked at Loki with tears in her eyes. "Thank you." She said, as she helped Tony up.

Loki closed his eyes and gave a little chuckle. "It was my pleasure, Lady Stark."

As he began to go limp from the exhaustion, he heard Carol going, "Oh come on, Loki. We left the ship on a whole other planet. Better hope they have another cooling chamber here."

* * *

They did, and Loki woke up with a large gasp. The chamber opened and Loki coughed a little before standing up.

He looked out to the faces of the Avengers, and knew that he had finally done the thing he set out to do the moment he had woken up on Hala.

Loki had redeemed himself, and had gotten his brother back.
