The way that the sun shone with such vigor, you would have thought that Natasha had personally offended it.
As she looked over her sunglasses at her target, she shrugged.
I mean, it's possible.
She took a sip of her drink and crossed a leg over the other as she pushed her sunglasses back up her nose, tossing a smile at some guy that was staring at her oddly.
creep.
The target for this mission was a CEO in California, who was under observation because he was suspected of being a supporter of Hydra. He certainly looked the part, with his greasy black hair slicked back and a perpetual scowl on his face.
"He kinda looks like Bucky when Steve's gone." Nat chuckled softly into her com, and Bucky laughed back sarcastically.
"Ha ha ha, Nat. Just pay attention, we don't know how long these long-distance coms will work."
Good reasoning, Nat supposed. The devices were a prototype, allowing the team to talk at larger distances. Right now, Bucky was still in New York.
Natasha sipped at her straw, only for her drink to have run out. "Aw, man." She frowned as she set her drink back down on the table.
Actually, it was perfect timing, since her empty drink gave her an excuse to leave like the target was.
Drago Bianchi, an Italian millionaire that Shield had reason to think was giving Hydra money to continue experiments. He wore pressed suits and tried to refrain from being seen in public, except for his weekly visit to a coffee shop. His order was always the same, a black coffee, and he never visited the same shop twice in a row.
He was also a Grade-A jerk, but that was just Nat's opinion.
Bianchi and his guards were heading for their car, so Natasha hung back a bit before going to hers. It was technically Stark's, but that doesn't matter.
Nat got Friday to track the car that Bianchi was in, so she sat back in her car and relaxed for a moment.
"Would you like me to connect my audio to theirs, Ms. Romanoff?" Friday asked.
Tasha swung her feet off of the dashboard. "You can do that?" She asked, surprised. At a hum of conformation from Friday, Nat spoke again. "By all means, please."
After a click, Bianchi's voice began to echo through the car. "Ivanov is getting impatient. We need to get that money to him ASAP, or the partnership ends."
"Sir, why is the partnership so important?"
"Our profits have almost tripled since it's began. Ivanov knows that, which is why he keeps asking for more money, but soon I won't be able to provide enough for him and his company... what was it, Hydra? Yeah, that sounds right. Anyway, their experiments are profitable to us, too. If they can perfect that super soldier serum, then we're on top of the list of suppliers to transport it around, which means more publicity, which means more money." Bianchi seemed very confident.
Nat had all of the evidence that she needed. "You hear this?" She asked into her com, and Bucky spoke back.
"Yup. Fury gave the go-ahead to confront him and bring him to the nearest base."
Nat nodded, even though Bucky couldn't see it. She switched her car into drive, and started to pursue the sleek black car that Bianchi was in.
It didn't take long to catch up, and Nat had Friday connect to the car again, but so that they could hear her.
"Pull over, immediately. I repeat, Drago Bianchi, pull over."
She looked over into the billionaire's car, and saw a few panicked faces. The car gradually began to pull over, and Nat followed. She got out of her car, prepared her weapons, and walked over.
"Bianchi, if you could get out of the car, that would be stellar. You wouldn't want this situation to escalate, would you?" She asked sweetly.
The businessman scoffed. "You're not police, why should I obey you?"
Nat flashed her Shield badge. "I'm with a very dangerous group of people, and you have no reason to fear them unless you have done something to endanger the world. Which, if they are having me confront you, you have. Now," She raised her gun, "Step out of the car and into mine."
He did so, hands raised, and Nat got in the drivers side. She locked to doors, and pulled back onto the road.
It was an awkward drive to the nearest Shield base, for Drago. Having just been kidnapped by a girl, his guards standing by like absolute sissies.
For Nat, however, the ride was very pleasant. Once she dropped off her cargo, she was going on a short vacation, and was going to enjoy every minute of it (by short, she meant an afternoon, until someone came to pick her up).
Soon, it was just Romanoff in the car, and she was driving towards one of the many beaches in California.
When she got there and parked, she took a bundle out from her trunk and walked on the sand. She had changed at the base, and was now in a bathing suit, with a sundress over it. She spread out her towel on the sand, and laid down on it after applying sunscreen.
Within minutes, the sun and the gentle crashing of waves had lulled her to sleep, and she slept for the better part of an hour.
When she woke up, the first thing that she noticed was that she was hot. That was pretty reasonable, considering she had been basking in sunlight for a while. She took off her sundress, leaving her in a one piece black bathing suit.
She got up and made her way to the sea, stepping in and sighing contentedly. The water felt cool around her ankles, and as she walked in deeper, it started to feel warmer.
She submerged her head, and pushed her hair to the side of her face. For this mission, it was a dull red, closer to a brown than her signature Black Widow look. She didn't mind it much, actually. It was nice to try something new.
Once she had been in the water for a hot minute she got out to dry off, figuring that the jet was nearby. On her way back to her stuff, however, a little girl tugged on her arm.
"Ma'am, are you the Black Widow? You're my favorite superhero!"
Natasha looked down and smiled. "I sure am Black Widow. I just got done with a mission, you know that?"
The little girl stared up in awe. "Really? Well, when you get back to New York can you make some shirts? Cause all my mom and me can find is shirts for the guy superheroes."
"Absolutely I can," Nat said. "I'm on my way back to New York right now, actually."
"Oh, then don't let me make you late!" The girl squealed. "Bye, Miss Widow!"
"Bye!" Natasha chuckled, picking up her towel and drying off quickly and pulling her sundress over her bathing suit. She got back to her car and Stark was there.
"I'm here to pick you up. C'mon, the jet is over there a ways," He said, gesturing aimlessly in a direction. "Leave the car, I've got more like it. Someone'll take it."
They walked off, and Nat figured that this had been a good day.

Natasha stayed true to her promise and had a string of Black Widow merch made, and it was insanely popular, more popular than the Thor and Captain America stuff combined.
She was pretty proud of that.

We promise to remember ❤
